Hi Rainer, Kohei, Markus, Am 25.04.2012 07:47, schrieb Rainer Bielefeld: Kohei Yoshida schrieb: I think we could use some help dealing with an ugly personal attack disguised as a bug report. Hello Kohei, I believe OfficeUser had a bad day when he wrote that lousy bad and incomplete report with wild speculations instead of reviewable facts. We should not attach great importance to that matter with the unfortunate subject line and wrong conclusion. But when I'm reading this bug in the right way the bug report is a direct accusation and a slander to *one* of our (new) developers who makes good work. So the very least is that if OfficeUser had a bad day he had to say Sorry. In any case it was Markus himself who considered it was his fault in comment #6 and #8 here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46230#c6 This is not related. It was a Calc bug while the most problematic bug was about Impress. It was impolite of OfficeUser to stress that but it doesn't seem like a case to lose hope in a FOSS project I hope that Kohei and Markus will not give up because of few quarrelsome people. They do great job and are important for the project. So - it's not particularly nice to try to blame someone; on the other hand possibly if the bug reporter has a suspicion it was related to something else that might be relevant I'd like to have that in the bug personally - even if it's wildly wrong. Prolly I'm missing some context. Having said that - really being blamed for things you didn't do is (IMHO) a sign of success ;-) it means that our breadth of community is reaching well into the lunatic fringe. The reality is that you guys are doing a simple excellent job in calc, and no random bug reporter is going to change your co-worker's impression of you there :-) So - I'd counsel relaxing, passing the bug report around to amuse a few friends, and seeing it as an unwanted symptom of success. Some of the personal flameage I get from time to time is really rather amusing ;-) try this for a recent, unsolicited, (anonymized) and heroic attempt to transfer blame: I have a bone to pick with LibreOffice. Not all of it is LibreOffice's fault, but there is enough blame to go around. ... This is definitely a very bad attitude towards LibreOffice. I think justifiably. The term when I have been harmed in this way is that LibreOffice is now anathema to me, cast aside in to the bin of broken software never to be used again. :-) And this wasn't even a document-data-loss bug; in fact there was no bug in LibreOffice at all here on investigation; just some silly user-error. Then again, you'd be amazed at the number of things I'm (apparently) personally responsible for ;- On a more positive note, I'm regularly impressed at how pleasant some people can be on the rare occasions (eg. before the fsync patch went in) that hours of data are lost through no fault of their own and they file bugs that are remarkably restrained. IMHO, the real fun is trying to win such people over and help turn them into advocates and/or QA people in time but ... that's a big ask I know. Hope that helps !
