It caught me totally by suprise as I had not heard anything about it until
I read a review of it.

Pete, can you remember if the review was online - and if so, where?

I use it with the docking station so there is some air flow under the
unit. Have noticed no heat related problem as of yet. Have also
upgraded to 64M Ram. No CPU cooler. Have left it plugged in and running
at my desk with a 10/100 network card and modem inserted. These get a
bit warm but have had no thermal shutdowns.

I have had a mammoth search for a 2.5 mm to 3.5mm adapter, with many
people saying it does not exist.

It does, and a Company called Philtron in South Africam imports it from,
they say, (but unconfirmed) Singapore. (Fortunately, (in this case!) we
do not have Radio Shack in SA!)

However it is "mono" - It works well on my 110. Plugging a normal stereo
3.5 plug into it provides signal on both lines.

However, I've wondered, is the output on the 2.5 socket mono or stereo
on a 110CT, and if a mono plug shorts one channel, is it likely to cause
 damage?

Libretto battery

2000-12-17 Thread Oliver Chua

Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 07:34:16 +0800
From: Oliver Chua [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Libretto battery

The Li-ion battery of my Libretto 50ct is no longer lasting long after 2
years of continuous use. The battery would no longer last more than 15
minutes after a full charge. I would like to ask the list members on what
they do with the old battery. Can I actually change the li-ion batteries?
If yes, where do I buy the li-ion cells and their specs? If no, can it be
retrofitted with a different type of battery (e.g. nimh)? I hope the
answer is not to simply throw the old battery in the the trash bin.

floor+libretto=bugger

2000-12-17 Thread Simon Shuker

Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 16:17:04 +1300
From: Simon Shuker [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: floor+libretto=bugger

Well, obviously a few years of reading about the disasters of others on this
list has bred a false feeling of complacency - after three models and over
three years of accident-free libretto ownership, I've gone and done it -
about 20 minutes ago the powercord of my charging 1050 got caught on the
side of my chair as I pushed it aside, resulting in an approximately
three-foot fall onto a carpet-covered concrete floor.

It landed flat on its back (bouncing out the keyboard-retaining piece of
plastic) and the screen now has vertical red, green and blue stripes
covering it. I restarted, and when it wouldn't boot past the initial
virus-check, re-booted and am currently running scan disk. Yes - there are
at least some bad clusters (and still only 10% through the scan).

Anyway - apart from the relatively important data which I have of course not
backed up recently enough, there is the small matter of the injured
computer. I suspect that it may just be a jarred display connection
(hopefully)- as the actual panel is still intact.

I do have a friend popping over to New Zealand from Japan for Christmas
though, so was wondering if anyone knew if any Librettos were still
commercially available - she lives an hour out of Sapporo, but will probably
be coming out through Tokyo, so it's probably a good time at the moment to
try and get a replacement...?

Any suggestions?

Simon

Well, things are looking slightly up - I remembered that the screen
connector was connected rather precariously under the keyboard (gave myself
a slight heart murmur when I forgot to connect it correctly after totally
disassembling and reassembling the computer on a previous occassion, meaning
that the power button did nothing), so ensured that was plugged fully in,
which has fixed the screen problem. Still doing scandisk (damn that 6G
partition) but things are looking better . . .
