RE: Is this why Toshiba abandoned the Libretto?

Interesting, yes, but they have lost sight of what made the Libretto series special - it's a real PC that runs real operating systems (don't flame me, please) and full PC programs. Navigation programs, for example, for Wince and Palm don't stack up to what is available under Win9x and Linux. Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 12:47:19 -0800 From: "David T. Nice modem/LAN combo
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 08:28:44 -0800 (PST) From: Charles Hawtrey [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Nice modem/LAN combo I've been lurking (and, very rarely, posting) here for a long time and thought the group might be interested to know about an item that seems especially suited to the Libretto. It's a Linksys PCMLM56 combination 56K modem and 10/100 ethernet PCMCIA card. Instead of a lot of discussion, I'll just list some points: Advantages: (1) Combo modem/ethernet means only one card to keep track of. (2) No dongle! No special cables or adapters to carry, lose, or break. There's a bulbous thingy on the outside edge the card that has standard RJ-45 and RJ-11 connectors. (3) Built-in digital line protection for the modem. (4) Cables connect horizontally rather than vertically, keeping them out of the way of the keyboard. (5) Reasonable price (about $115 from buy.com) Disadvantage: (1) The big connector block (see (2) above) means that you might not be able to use this with a second PCMCIA card, depending on the profile of the second card. (Hint: if you buy the PCMLM56 copy the drivers onto your hard disk instead of installing from the floppy.) I don't know whether the modem will work outside the U.S. My experience in a dozen or so international trips has been that any modem will work as long as you use X3 to bypass dial tone issues. Hope this is helpful to someone. CMH __ Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! NONE of the ones I found would ship outside the USA :-( Worse still, buy.com's UK site were quoting around $250 as opposed to the $110 at buy.com for the same item!! Anyone know a US supplier that will take MC/VISA and will ship abroad??? With the 61xx phone I had to buy the software to allow me to link Lib 110ct to phone, but you get that with the 71xx models. I gather from this that you have been using a Nokia 61xx over IR with a Lib 110CT ? I'd be very interested in how you managed it as all of my attempts to do it have failed, and Ive found lots of info telling me that you just cant do it, so I'd love to know before I go and invest in a new 6210 for the purpose... Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 21:29:06 - From: "Jon Crawford" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Cellular Libretto Dave, If I remember rightly, I installed Nokia Data Suite V1.2 using a DAU-9P (or is it 6P?!) cable to connect the phone to the Lib (which was a 50CT running Win95b) whilst installing. Then you need to link the Data Suite com port to the virtual comm port used by IR. It took me a number of times to get that to work. Since then I've got a 110CT, running Win98SE and directly seeing a Nokia 7110.
