Get it in Hong Kong, it will be in English. Call or fax (no email, they hate
spam) Mr. Charles Ho, or James Miu, Sunlite Computronics Ltd.
Suite 1130
311 Gloucester Rd.
Causeway Bay
Hong Kong Tel 2576-2067   Fax (852) 2577-8874

That's how the numbers are on his business card. The 8 digit part is the
local number...you will have to be a detective to figure out the country
codes, etc.

Sunlight is an Authorized dealer for Tosh, Fujitsu, HP and IBM. Their main
thrust at the moment seems to be Fujitsu, in fact, I was there today and
bought a larger Fujitsu, but I whipped out my Lib 70 and they got all
excited! Especially when they learned it packed 20 Gb! If only it were fast,
and I had really small fingers!

There were a couple of Libs at this address...it is a computer mall.
Sunlight did not have one on display, but I am sure they can get it.

They are willing to ship, which Japanese companies never are, and, they
speak English. Also, no sales tax in Hong Kong, in Japan it is steep. I am
leaving here tomorrow, or I would offer to get it for you.

Ooops, forget a bunch of that... I just called charles, and he says the
Lib's are gray market, so he can't sell them yet, but yes, there are some
english ones here...more on that later.

He suggest you consider the roughly equivalent Fujitsu P-1000 Crusoe 533
MHz, 128 Mb Ram, 15 Gig, 8.8 screen, built in 56 K modem, external floppy
and cd, and mini dock, all for 13,300 Hong Kong Dollars, which is roughly US
$1700

I have seen the Libs in a couple of stores, for prices ranginng from Price
12500 hong kong dollars to 10500. I was not shopping for one, so did not pay
any attention to the details of language or bundled accessories.

Right beside it was a vaio..it was behind glass, and I hnad some trouble
reading the model nr, but I think it was pcg c 1 vr bp. this had b uilt in
vid camera. coould not see the specs, but am sure they are on line . vaio
also in english., for 13800, and roughly 1000 less without the camera.

I have converted Japanese computers to run English, and simply installing
another version of Windows may turn out to be the least of your worries.
First, they keyboard mapping will be wrong. This can be fixed...it can all
be fixed, I am just advising of the issues. Also, installing drivers can be
tricky, as you may not know, for ex ample, what kind od sound chip is in
use, and it may or may not autdetect properly. Not being able to read the
documentation can make this a bit challenging.

And, of course, you will have no warantee, and buying consumaqbles like
batteries is a bother, etc. The Fujitsu, on the other hand, is available in
your choice of English or Chinese, with worldwide warrantee.

I know, I know, this is the libretto fan club, but, frankly, I would have
parted with my Lib 70 today...it is just too hard to type on for me, but the
only thing that was similar in size, but with a better keybd was the casio
Fiva, now available in English, but quite widely derided as junk, and over
$1000 US for a 200 or 233 Mhz chip, 64 mb/ 6 gb, just did not seem worth it.
So, here I still am, tyoing with 2 fingers.

Some other shops in the mall...I don't know if they had libs or not: There
are probably 50 stores there, so if these don't have it, ask if their
neighbors might. The clerks were generally very knowledgeable and helpful.

Michael,

Relax. It does that to self calibrate (mine goes sideways).

Let it go (if it loves you it will come back) and it should stop after a few
seconds. If you leave your thumb on it it seems to want to do it more often
and for longer. It shouldn't happen very often.

Of course, if it's doing it all the time, then you may have a problem with
the pressure sensor under the thumb button...

Stuart,

I tried ME on the 100ct twice (as an upgrade to 98 both times) and on both
occasions the install ran smoothly to the end. Trouble is, when it came time
for the final restart it would bum out saying something like 'windows
protection error - windows cannot start' or something along those lines.
Very odd. By contrast, win2k installed flawlessly as an upgrade to 98 and
worked like a charm (albeit a bit slow on that 64k machine) but its more
stable that you'd ever imagine windows could be on a libretto.

One could then practically fill in the reset hole with some grey plastic
epoxy since it won't be needed anymore... :-)

 Would it please be possible if someone could tell me
 if Windows ME runs fine on the Libretto 100CT. I know
 that Windows 98 played up for me when I installed it.
 It seemed a lot slower than 95. Has anyone installed
 ME on their Libretto? Any problems?

Subject: Re: upward pointer migration

Michael,

My old 70CT did this from time to time. It was very annoying until I
found out that 1) by going into the AccuPoint setup in the Control Panel
it would correct the drift (I had the Toshiba driver installed, don't
know if it will do this for the IBM one). Because of this, I kept a
Shortcut to the mouse driver on the desktop and clicked it whenever this
happened. 2) I later learned that changing the thumb cap caused this to
go away. I think the old cap was putting a little pressure on the sensor
thus causing the mouse pointer to move. I believe going into the driver
calibrated for this.

Regards,

Clinton Parker

Just to let you know. I have a Libretto 50CT with 32mb ram, p75 @ 100mhz
running me just fine, Only problem I had was the floppy drive kept locking
up. I used the 110ct driver for that and now it is just fine. everything
works flawlessly. I can even run powerdvd and watch vcds on the thing. Yeah,
I know VCD sucks for quality..but on a 6.1 TFT screen it looks fairly well.
I have a 20gb ibm travelstar drive on the way. was using the 810 right at
this moment. I dont have hibernation enabled as I formated the drive on a
dekstop computer with an adapter. Hoewever I did do the os install on the
libretto. Took a while, but if you follow the same rules with the
desktop...such as disabling sys restore, run msconfig, and clean up all the
crap in start up.Most importantly uninstall Windows MediaPlayer (It blows)
WINAMP WINAMP WINAMP works fine:) When you install ME look here for some
options
http://www.theosfiles.com/os_windows/ospg_wme_secrets.htm#setup_switches
This will allow the OS to install on our little cherrished librettos. Enjoy.

Great to be a part of this libretto message board.

 Subject: Localisation of the hibernation area (IBM 20 G)

 I wanted an hibernation partition with the minimal size on a Libretto 110
 1) Create a partition about [8 Gb - 200 Mb ; 8 Gb + 100 Mb],
then center the partition around the hibernation area
 2) Write all zero on it dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda10 bs=1024
count=30
 3) Run some applications
 4) Hibernate the Libretto apm -s
 5) Restart the Libretto
 6) Check with the following shell
 #!/bin/sh
 dd if=/dev/zero of=zero63 bs=1024 count=63
 cyl=0
 while [ $cyl -le 88326 ]
 do
 xcyl=`printf %05x $cyl`
 cp -a zero63 cyl
 dd if=/dev/hda10 bs=1024 skip=$cyl of=cyl count=63 /dev/null
 cmp -s zero63 cyl  echo $xcyl === $cyl
 cmp -s zero63 cyl || echo $xcyl ###
 let cyl = $cyl+63
 done

 And the result with IBM-DJSA-220 is the partition defined as:

 fdisk -l /dev/hda
 Disque /dev/hda : 255 têtes, 63 secteurs, 2432 cylindres
 Unités = cylindres sur 16065 * 512 octets
 ..
 /dev/hda10 1017  1027 88326   a0  Hibernation Thinkpad IBM

 The hibernation area is the center portion of the partition:
 0x03e80-0x14680 ### 16000-83584 - 67584 k
 The rest of the partition (the first 16000k and the last 2800k)
 can be used to store confidential cyphered raw data,
 unreadable via ftp, nfs, samba.

 Yes, you can. With dual boot. And see the Win$ partition in Linux
 And also see the linux partitions in Win$.

 I have not installed dual boot. I prefer to have Win$ on a separate
machine
 with Samba between them.

 But, in either case, Linux only or Dual boot, do not forgt the Hibernation
