Hmm...good to know. I don't know why it should partition differently in a
different machine, but I'll trust you =) Actually, I may not be putting it
in my desktop at all, since I plan on getting a PCMCIA CD drive.

If you partition on a desktop machine, if you say 'yes' to the question 'use
all available space', that's what you'll get. If you do it on the libretto,
because it needs a space at the end of the drive to keep the hibernation
data on, the BIOS lies to dos regarding just how big 'all' is - so that bit
doesn't get allocated and is never written to.

If you don't do this, windows will work fine for days, weeks, or months
depending on how often you hibernate and how much data you save to disk -
but sooner or later a file will be in the same place as the hibernation
wants to be - and will find itself in an ass-kicking competition with a
centipede. The hibernation will work, but your data won't survive. Oh dear
:)

Once you've formatted in the lib, you can take the disk to another machine
because the partition table will indicate the size of the partitioned area,
and you'll only see the missing bit if you try and format it again. (In the
same way that a desktop disc can have eg half windows and half linux - dos
will only report on the windows bit of it).

Neil

How much is an L100 worth?

2001-06-08 Thread Philip G Spencer

Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 11:45:58 +0100
From: Philip G Spencer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: How much is an L100 worth?

I'm planning on selling my L100 in the next few weeks (still need to back
up my data, clean off all the junk I've got on the hard drive, reinstall windows
98 and drivers, and get all the bits and pieces togther). Does anyone have
any idea what it's all worth (and does anyone want to buy it). I was planning
on advertising it here and on some of the newsgroups for a week or so before
putting it on ebay. By the way I live in the UK and would prefer to make the
sale here (can meet in person in Cambridge or London to reduce postage
and show that everything works), but if necessary, I will ship abroad (at
buyer's
expense). Here's what I've got:

* L100 (complete, never been overclocked, UK keyboard, all standard bits)
with 6GB HDD and 64MB memory.
* Extra high capacity battery.
* Original 2GB HDD.
* Xircom RealPort 56K Modem 10/100 Ethernet combo card.
* Freecom DVD-ROM (~2 months old - still have receipt).
* Margi DVD-to-Go card (~2 months old - bought off ebay, so no TV dongle)
* REX card (PC card PDA)
* Caselogic bag.
* Will reinstall trial (no CD or license, just confirm that you have them, will
buy
them or will delete them after evaluation) versions of Office 97, 98lite,
Sidekick
98 (great with the REX card), utilities (WinZip, WinAmp, Audiograbber) and
games (Quake, MAME plus ~1500 ROMS, most Infocom adventures) as
   requested.

Based on what I've seen on ebay I'd guess at about £600 + shipping
(libretto + extras @ $500 + DVD-to-Go @ $100 + DVD-ROM @ $150 +
Modem/NIC @ $70 + REX @ $30 = $850 and 1 GBP = 1.38 USD = 615 GBP).

I'll be sad to see it go (need bigger screen and faster CPU for software
development work).

Cheers,
Phil Spencer.

Thanks, Neil for the information, and Anthony for your offer.
I have tried to contact Morgan Computers, but they didn't reply my email
yet. However, Anthony, please let me know how the repair of your L30 goes,
as I'd be interested in purchasing your memory module, and maybe some other
bits.

By the way, it has taken me so long to reply because since I upgraded my
hard drive, some days ago, I haven't been able to make my PCMCIA modem work
-now I'm writing this from another computer.
The modem is a PSION-DACOM V34 GOLD CARD. I have been searching for help on
Toshiba's and Psion's sites, but nothing of what they indicate makes it
work.
The thing is, I had the same problem in the beginning, when the card was
first installed, but after a lot of tries, it finally worked, and after
trying the same things, the result is that it connects to the isp, but then
it's disconnected, and an error message of the type of 'you were
disconnected, please check your configuration' appears, so I must have
missed something.

Any idea? Could it be possible to copy something from the old drive onto the
new one to make the modem work?

Thanks in advance,

Miguel

Actually, I'm glad I know that, since I would have left the 100mb if I

Re: Sony StreetMate GPS System

Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 13:49:48 -0700
From: Michael Berlant [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: Sony StreetMate GPS System

I have been using my trusty Libretto 60 with various US and Japanese software packages
since 1995. I also just purchased a new car here in the US last September with a
built-in package. They are both wonderful, each in its own right. The Libretto is
more portable and the built-in is more accurate.

With the laptop software, you only get a signal from the GPS receiver, which is only
as accurate as Selective Availability (now mostly released), propagation distortion,
foliage and multipath allow. This may skew your position from reality by several
hundred yards. As I have traveled around the US and Japan, I have gotten accustomed
to being my own DGPS, applying the correction in my mind to the arrow on the map.

The car navigation system built into my car integrates the GPS signal with the
roadways on the map and the rotation and direction of the front tires. By applying
logic to those three input sources, the system continually adjusts my position on the
map to within a few feet of true.

Unfortunately, I can't carry my car on a business trip on the other side of the
country or world. So, I happily pack my Libretto and its ETAK card and go off to
points unknown.

Cheers,

Michael

I recently acquired a nice 110CT via eBay and am wondering what sort of case(s)
you would recommend. I have checked out 3 Targus cases (CH400, CH600, NWCCL00)
and the Case Logic PDC 1 at their respective websites. Any thoughts on these?
One thing about these items is that they don't appear to have the padding
that's quite common with normal notebook cases. And, if one wants to also take
along the AC adapter and PCMIA floppy drive, any opinions on what sort of case
would work? I know I could just get a regular size notebook case and have room
for everything, but if there's something out there that would be just large
enough for the 110, AC and floppy drive, that would be better.

Thanks,
Martin

So, how does one start that up in DOS to copy Win98 .cabs? (I should
have been more specific with my question.) I'm guessing Lap Link or
 simillar is required.

What software do you use to setup the link between computers?

PA2504

2001-06-08 Thread Dave's Libretto

Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 18:47:31 +0100
From: Dave's Libretto [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: PA2504

Hi all,

Ive mistakenly bought a PA2504 from the dabs website. I thought it was the
acutal battery charger for the lib 100 batts, but turns out to be an adapter for
them to fit into the charger. I cant tell how it adapts them, but in any case,
if someone needs one, I guess that I have one for sale!

Cheers

Dave
