Re: Will Oracle release new versions for Linux/390
Has anyone read anything from Oracle indicating if they will continue supporting Linux/390 for their products? We have just started testing version 9.2.0.1 Linux/390, and I noticed they have released 10.1.0.2. I looked at the platform list, and Linux/390 is not listed for 10g. Hopefully, a Linux/390 version will be released, else there is no point in testing 9.2 if this is the first, and last release. Thanks, Ken Vance Amadeus The 10g version of Oracle for zSeries is being built right now. It will be 64 bit only, so will not run on 9672 or Multiprise hardware. In the Metalink platform list if you look at System 390 you will not see Oracle 10g. If you look at zSeries you will see 10g as projected. regards, Tom Tom Russell Stay calm. Be brave. Re: Will Oracle release new versions for Linux/390
Looking at back notes from the IBM/Oracle early adopters teleconferences, Oracle 10g for Linux/390 is being built on Red Hat, although it will also be certified for SLES8. During the March 5 conference, it was noted that the 10g delivery date had slipped for all platforms, but it would probably be released for z/Linux around the end of April. Oracle DB 10g will be available by the end of April for Linux for zSeries (64-bit only). This new version will not support Linux for S/390 (31-bit). Re: Will Oracle release new versions for Linux/390
Hi, I am glad to here that 10g will be supported. We have SuSE 8 31-bit and 64-bit, so I guess we will proceed with the 64-bit SuSE version. We have managed to connect the VSSI VPARS VM product to the z/VM Linux image, and it intercepts the Oracle DB I/O. This will allow multiple users to write to one copy of the database under z/VM without changing the base. This could make our Oracle testing much easier, and we are now looking at testing this concept on a larger scale. Re: Will Oracle release new versions for Linux/390
There will be a 9.2.0.5 patchset also. I've requested (hoping!) they put AIO support in it. For those interested in Linux/390 and Oracle you might check here : www.mvsoraclesig.org Although the sig was originally for mvs, it is now a z/Series and Oracle sig. We just finished it last week. Oracle is committed to their database on z/Linux. They will be releasing 10g as 64 bit only for z/Linux. The list of presentations is here: http://www.mvsoraclesig.org/presentations.shtml My presentation was Customer Experiences, Oracle9iR2 Database for Linux/390. It's really from a sysadmin perspective (I'm not a DBA) and fairly high level as I didn't have much time. -Original Message- From: Nick Laflamme [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2004 11:03 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Will Oracle release new versions for Linux/390 Ken Vance wrote: Hi, Has anyone read anything from Oracle indicating if they will continue supporting Linux/390 for their products? We have just started testing version 9.2.0.1 Linux/390, and I noticed they have released 10.1.0.2. For what it's worth, we eventually found 9.2.0.4 for Linux on S/390. It took a bit of digging, but it's out there. We found 9.2.0.1 fairly easily; we didn't find 9.2.0.4 until someone said, Well, if Oracle really supported Linux on the mainframe, there'd be 9.2.0.4 for it! At that point, we dug further and found it, somehow.
