I may have confused the issue when I carried on to another problem...

The YAM is now fine, that's sorted, a spot of hand/eye co-ordination
 trouble!

The other problem relates to the serial ports that have KISS tnc's hanging
 on the end of them.

Oh I see! Makes sense now. I don't presently have any TNCs running linux
(only one in my APRS portable station, which is computer-less) so I can't
help sorry.

Hamish, after loading soundmodem.o/baycom.o/yam.o module and
correctly configure this driver we got network device, such
as sm0, bc0 etc. This device can be used for IP over AX25, but,
we can't make simple 'call' for connecting to other station and
use this device in LinuxNode/xfbbd etc ...

For this utils we need to make KISS stream w/net2kiss (man net2kiss),
and w/kissattach create standart AX.25 port.

 Now I'm confused more.

In my YAM docs, it says nothing about kissattach to use the port for xfbb.

Don't you just love incomplete documentation.

Looks like I'll have to go all the way through my config and do some more
 work!

No, no! Don't panic. What Yuri says above isn't true.

Thanks Yuri Alberto,

Thanks to all involved, especially Richard Adams who is helping me get this
varmit of a system to work.

The problem was a hardware related issue. The Hardware was plugged into the
wrong tty! A spot of incorrectly labelled (or no labels to be precise!) tty
ports.
Thus, YAM was in ttyS1 when I thought it was in ttyS3, and when I swapped it
over, because I thought the port may not be working, I then thought it was
in S1 when it was actually in S3.

Now another problem has turned up, this one to do kissattach.

When I enter ;

# kissattatch /dev/ttyS1 4m 44.131.162.144

(4m is the name of the port in axports.)

I get a couple of errors, one relating to tty speed. Something is not right
as yet.
How do I set the tty port speed? I read the manual for setserial, and it
confused me more as there are a number of speed settings. Which one do I
want? if any?

If the manuals were better, and not written for a telepath, Linux would be
much
more popular than it already is.

The AX25-Howto needs re-writing (please Terry :o) ) so a complete idiot like
myself can read it, understand it, and what's more, configure their system
from it, without finding holes that are not documented, or if they are, you
need to be a mind-reader to know where the docs are.

 Hello,

I'm having trouble getting my final config sorted out.

The system is thus: RedHat 5.2, Kernel 2.2.13 with updated utils, glibc
etc... all as needed for 2.2.x kernels.

System config: Cyrix M11 233, 32Mb RAM, 520Mb HD, IDE CD, ZIP drive (ppa),
 on a PC-Chips TX-Pro-II motherboard.

2 x SCC cards (one BAYCOM USCC, one PACCOMM PC100)

 4 x serial ports (ttyS0 = mouse, ttyS1 = KISS TNC @ 4800baud, ttyS2 = KISS
 TNC @ 9600baud, ttyS3 = YAM @ 9600baud)

 Problem:

I can't get my YAM modem to initialise as it claims the serial port is busy,
and I can't seem to get kissattach to see the other serial ports properly.

I know that the ttyS00/S02 ttyS01/S03 interrupts are "shared" but even if I
remove two, it makes no difference. So the problem is elsewhere.

If i am reading the configuration correctly you are trying to attach an
interface to all four commports when you have only 2 IRQ's assigned.
To use all for comports you will need to allocate each one a different IRQ.
quite possably 'man setserial' willl help you more, i'm not saying RTFM, but i
think you need to look in that direction.

As to the ethernet card.
eth0: Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 at 0x5800, 00:90:27:5C:2C:34, IRQ 0
IRQ 0 ??
I presume its a PCI card, doing 'cat /proc/pci' shhould show more information.

Anyway, what happends when you issuse

ifconfig eth0 up ??

And then 'ifconfig' is the interface then visable,?
