Aiee, killing interrupt handler kernel panic: attempt to kill the idle task! in interrupt handler not synching I try to set default setting to the BIOS and try to set the HD to LBA some times I get the message: Linux NET4.0 for LInux 2.2 base upon Swansa University. unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address fa26d9e6 ( and the address number is changing evry boot) PLEASE HELP Shay. = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Kernel panic
1. Try to remove hardware components (I'd begin with some memory; My first guess is that one of your memory modules is out of order). The when the kernel first loads correctly, reattach all the other component (except for the last component you have removed - this must be the offending hardware piece); 2. This seems like a new computer. Is Linux the only operating system on it? If there are, do they work correctly? 3. Make yourself another install disk on another PC (using rawrite) and load setup with the floppy. There might be a problem with the media you have. 4. Other problems may be specific to your hardware (from what you tell I can say that Linux works with 3Com cards and Matrox has nothing to do with it at this stage). That's as far as I can help for now... The software will be released commercially at November. Are you sure? From what I understand, this is nothing more than a VFAT based Linux distribution that can coexist with your Windows installation, and that is installed within windows, taking dadvantage of the fact that all your pripherals have already been recognized by Windows. Here is a quote from a SlashDot discussion: Used it discovered it yesterday. (Score:5, Informative) by Seth Cohn (Seth Cohn at Yahoo dot Com) on Wednesday September 22, @07:54AM EDT (#18) (User Info) I downloaded it yesterday, and it works well for what it does. Unpacks into a UMSDOS directory, c:\linux Autodetects all of your hardware based on your _windows_ settings. Really nice. I'd like to see more of this in the other distros. Save it to a floppy, and that would solve a lot of questions newbies have (like irq,i/o etc) If it's wrong (such as missing my video card), you can override the setting. It did really well, finding my printer (hp laserjet), joystick but not sound card (no sound setting?), mouse, modem, timezone. It asks for a user and password, and even gives you the option to make root the same password. Gives you a menu option (aka icon) to reboot system into Linux. I've tried a few of these UMSDOS ones. Armed Linux didn't work with this system, but WinLinux2000 did work. I ended up with a nice (if slow due to UMSDOS) Linux system. Won't replace any of my real linux boxen, but for newbies wanting to try Linux, this is a new option. Another option is DemoLinux, an entirely CD based Linux. I've had good luck with that one too. http://www.demolinux.org Udi ÿÿ To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Wow... Amazing... I must admit that you're right! I don't know if they did it intentionally, but their press release gives you a feeling that their product is a Linux *UNDER* Windows, for SIMULTANEOUS use. I hope they didn't do that to attract naive people (like me) to their web site (which is always down...). P.S. I posted my message about 10 hours before Slashdot published it, and since the web site was down, I couldn't learn about this product from anywhere except for the confusing press release. By the way: What do you think about the rumor I wrote about Microsoft? Switch to a faster RAM, use a single SIMM 16 or 32 Mb RAM that you know works in a linux machine. Then try to boot. If you can boot, switch back to your 256MB RAM and try to boot again, if it works, put in the cards one-by-one and reboot after each card until you find the problem. Try switching the positions of the cards. IMHO the most likely sources of the problem are: 1. RAM speed too slow or defective RAM. Remember that just because a particular hardware setup works with NT doesn't mean it will work with a real OS. 2. Card not seated properly due to defective slot or mechanical incompatibility (contacts are shorting out) 3. Defective card Regards, - yba EE 77 7F 30 4A 64 2E C5 83 5F E7 49 A6 82 29 BA~. .~ TclTek Ltd. =}-ooO--U--Ooo---{= - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - tel: +972.52.670.353, http://www.tcltek.co.il - = To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
