I joined their meeting at the Bellevue library. They didn't have knowledge
about this and couldn't fix it either.

for the record: if I were anywhere close to Seattle I would gladly have
helped you... but as I am in rural Africa atm, this is somewhat challenging :)
as i am probably/hopefully moving to the Seattle area in the next year
or two, I have joined this list also:

they seem fairly active and from a lurker perspective seem to be very
cool and keen Linux users, there must be one of them with a caffeine
addiction that you could meet up with :)

what worries me about your post is that if it is not just 'new' hardware but 
does 
turn out to be an actual hardware error you may be sacrificing stability
for function, this tends to never end well... 

Will you please also post when you have resolved the issue, so we know what it 
was?

I have the drivers & firmware but could not make them work. This wlan card
isn't supported by the kernel by default. Did you read the links I included?
