In order to make this happen, I need to go to each track and use the 'Shift Clips' option. This is a rather clunky interface. 1) It can be cumbersome when there are a bunch of tracks in play and you have to adjust each one. And 2) it is imprecise when you are trying to line up everything to a new clip where you have not yet decided exactly how long that clip will run for. It would be best if we could highlight clips across multiple tracks and then drag them back and forth as needed. The following fix from Kirk Schnable temporarily fixes the problem: OpenShot version 1.4.0, Python 2.7.3, on Xubuntu 12.04, all updates are installed. ... No LADSPA plugins were found! Check your LADSPA_PATH environment variable. [Where the hell is it, and what do you check it for?] I uninstalled and reinstalled OpenShot and Python's MLT libraries... sudo apt-get remove openshot python-mlt3 --purge sudo apt-get install python-mlt3 ## It is unclear whether this command should refer to python-mlt or python-mlt3 sudo apt-get install openshot Then I got rid of the old profile settings for the user. mv ~/.openshot/ ~/.openshot-old/ After doing the above steps I cleaned up the various cacheswith apt- get and rebooted. Everything appeared to work. The next morning Openshot reverted to having a dead launch icon. It is clear that the openshot package contains a lot of carefully thought out and powerful features and represents a lot of very impressive work by its developers. My problem is that ALL I want to do is reduce a .avi file from my camera, UNCHANGED, to a 320 x 240 .mp4 that will play in the most common phone and desktop browsers using the most elementary and featureless HTML5 video player imaginable. I'm not just editing simple travel photos, or anything, I do creative editing involving a lot of effects and transitions. The computer is a Toshiba x870-025, I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 on a partitioned drive with windows 7. I edited a video for roughly 8 non-consecutive hours using the program and it was fine. Then it started crashing after every two to three changes. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason other than it crashes excusively when I'm working in the timeline. It doesn't freeze or anything, it simply closes and when reopened is saved to the last autosave. It got to the point where I could do one thing, it would crash, I'd open it and play the change, adjust the change and it would crash again. I looked around this forum, launchpad and google and tried some fixes. I have followed the instructions here regarding dependencies: viewtopic.php?f=12=758. The first time I did it, Openshot stopped opening at all. So uninstalled it and installed again, reran that protocol and it wasn't effected. I finished that last project through many many crashes. I wondered if it was just the complexity of the project so I started a new, simpler, project. Now, after two transitions, two tracks and maybe 5 cuts, it is back to crashing frequently when I work in the timeline. Any ideas left to try? At random intervals, even while the CPU usage is low, the application will crash-out. The operating system, desktop environment, and all other applications still work, but Openshot just shuts down. Openshot will open back up with no issues and I can immediately play the video, but as soon as I try to edit or adjust any of the clips, the application will crash again. When I can record, videos play back as I should. On download page, there is no package for fre10r. I uninstalled and reinstalled the OpenShot program twice. Once, it locked up my machine where I had to unplug the box. Any remedies? Helen McCall adds the following to Morpheus' blueprint. A separate compositing window with a movable and zoomable wire frame to apply to a compositing pane has been discussed with Rienhard on the answer tracker. The wire frame aspect ratio should be able to be preset for the project. A frame numbering scale to add to the timescale would also be useful in this. A set of separate coloured wire frames for each track or key frame being composited in, would make it easy to adjust relative positions and sizes. One wireframe for the beginning of the keyframe sequence, and one for the end - for each track. My girlfriend is making a school project with OpenShot, and she has some problems with it. POSSIBLE SOLUTION: Currently the layout of the editor is like this: [files/transitions/effects tab] [Viewer] [ TIMELINE ] You could make the layout like this: [[files/transitions/effects tab] [properties of clip] [Viewer] [ TIMELINE ] The properties of the clip being the information about the selected clip. (its effects and more) Single left-click on a clip on the timeline selects the clip. Thanks!
