[pfSense] [PATCH] Captive portal always show login page before handing credit

2013-09-25 Thread Guido Falsi

Hi,

I use pfsense as a captive portal for some wifi hotspots.

On these I hand out a time limited credit to anyone. Before giving that
credit I have the need to always show a welcome page (with some warnings
and explanations) to all users. I then hand the credit only after the
user posts the page back via an "accept" submit button.

This also allows the system not to start the tiem limit countdown until
the user actively clicks the button, and not even if some too smart
phone just pings the network or "phones home" by itself.

Optionally I also can have username and password fields which, if
populated, will make the system skip the credit check.

I modified pfsense in such a way, also with a new configuration option
to enable/disable this functionality.

Patches are available here (relative to latest git sources):

http://www.madpilot.net/~mad/pfsense.diff

I'd like to have these integrated in pfsense. Is this acceptable
functionality for pfsense?

I have not studied the pfsense programming practices too much, I admit,
so if the patch needs fixing to be acceptable I'm open to comments and
suggestions.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

where can i look for this really annoying problem?

hi jurgen

hmmm -- i have the same issue -- thought it was unique to my install.

using embedded 2.01 on an Alix appliance with an openvpn tunnel to a
remote pfsense running full version (then to an asterisk server)

I was seeing the same problem on 2.0.1 on alix just doing NAT/Firewall
work on a DSL connection. Now I have upgraded to 2.0.2 and this problem
seems to be gone.

I have other problems for which I'm inclined to put the blame on
asterisk since they show up with peers on the same LAN too, but they do
need some more investigation.
