I suspect that in essence we're agreeing, Barney, but I would point
out that sure, you might remember what hack was implemented for a
particular problem now - but what about in two years time or when
you're working with someone else's code? If I had the choice of a hack
or a more verbose but blatently obvious conditional comment, I'll take
the comment every time.

Why not going with !--[if IE 7] rather than !--[if gt IE 6]

That way you don't have to worry about IE 8 :)

This is precisely the problem with conditional comments: You don't know
in advance if any given bug will be fixed in IE8, so you can't know
which conditional you will need.

If you get it wrong, and the bug fix is still needed in IE8 (or is not
needed in 7.5 !), then you will have to change all your CCs. It doesn't
future-proof your code any more than a well chosen CSS hack will, and
you will have many more pages to fix.

Geoff.

Subject: GRR IE Help Please

I am trying to do a fixed layout for a site and no matter what I do I
cannot figure out why it isn't displaying correct in IE for me.

I am attempting to use css to act like a frame - wherein all content
on that div will scroll: auto if it is longer than the container.

Now this is working perfect in FF - but for the life of me IE will not
display proper.

You can see the action here :
http://heavenly.crsdesignsinc.com/index.php?main_page=indexcPath=6

Mind you this is only a mock up - so the header and such are not
accurate - heck it isn't even close yet to done. But before I continue I
would like to fix this issue.

Can someone please give me a hand. I am about to say to heck with it -
but this client defintely wants this look :(

Thanks!
Tina
