Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Printing Challenge
OK, let me explain it a bit more detailed. We have about 5 printers. 3 in the computerrooms. While pupils can't use this room without a teacher, we can ignore these ones. But then we have two other printers. One, which is freely accessible in a corridor, and another one in the staffroom. The system contains 7 Terminals. 6 in classrooms and one in the staffroom. Now it would be nice, if the classroom terminals were all able to print on the one corridor printer, but not on the staffroom printer. The terminal in the staffroom should have access to all printers. And it would also be nice, if we simply could add diverse printers. So in my eyes the easiest would be a list with the printer names and a list with Terminals which are allowed to access them. Unfortunately I'm quite at the beginning. Means, I don't know how, only that I want! :) And thank you again for those many tips! Alex What goal are you trying to reach? How many printers to you really have? [Ltsp-discuss] No Icons with local dev... and version question
Hello, I have a very strange thing here I have ltsp 4.2 updated with ltspadmin. I get a status of all that there is no update required. But wenn I log in at a terminal (locally) and do a cat /etc/version then I get 4.2 version 3 though 4 is the latest. Is the message false or is there an other problem? Also I use SuSE 9.2 with KDE 3.3 the local device support is fully working beside one thing. I do not get an Icon when a device is plugged in either CDROM nor USB devs. Correctly spoke, when the device is available BEFORE I start the client the I get the icons - they just never go away the the device is unplugged. I am happy about any hint. Thanks a lot Michael - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Printing Challenge
Hello again, I think I'm going to find a solution named Tea4CUPS. It's a cups backend which catches the jobs before they are forwarded to the printer and lets any program/script modify them. With the already mentioned Set-default-printer solutions this would be a reasonably way to restrict the access. Because in the script you can look, if the IP and the group is allowed to print, and if not, you are able to send some messages with the notification-daemon for example. So a big thanks to all the helpers Alex - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Printing Challenge
Hi Alex, Access-control via groups is implemented in cups. Think about adding the staff-users to a staff group, deny access from anyone and allow access from staff-group. Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Where is in.telnetd or in.rshd?
Kevin, telnetd and rshd don't exist in LTSP because they aren't needed. If you want to connect from the server to the workstation, you can use ssh. sshd is available on the workstation. You just need to turn on LOCAL_APPS and setup NIS for authentication. Jim McQuillan [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kevin Wambsganz wrote: Hi, I’m looking for in.rshd or in.telnetd in the ltsp dir but I can not find it. Does anyone know where it is? I copied them from my ltsp server to the i386 dir but it didn’t seem to work. So, I guess they are compiled differently from my ltsp server. I guess I need in.rshd in.telnetd specifically compile for a ltsp client, right? Thanks for your help, Kevin W. - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Then I would map default printers for each terminal as either Frank or I have described previously. This way the most logical printer would be selected by default, yet the corridor printer could be selected from anywhere, and only staff could select the printer in the staff room. Some distros have gdm and/or mountd expecting to be able to map an IP address to a hostname. It's been a while since i've bumped into this, because I ALWAYS either specify my hosts in the /etc/hosts file or I setup DNS forwards AND reverses. So, my advice is to always provide some method of mapping IP addresses to the hostnames of your thin clients. Jim McQuillan [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
