Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Ubuntu 14.04 pnp with freerdp

2016-12-02 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello Vladimir,

in my config every client is running as a fat client.

As far as I know remotefx is only working in Windows Ultimate versions and you
need it as a hyper-V virtual PC.

But I’m using Windows 2012R2 as a Terminalerver / RDS.

Best regards
Martin

Hello, Martin,

are you clients thin or fat? If you need local devices I suggest fat-client
setup because it's easier to configure and debug.

For usb redirection use /usb option of xfreerdp:

/usb:id,dev::

However there're a lot of issues with USB redirection over freerdp, there is a
big chance that it won't work at all if you use version from Ubuntu repository,
in which case you will have to build freerdp from sources.

As of video performance with RDP you can try enabling RemoteFX on Windows
Server and use /rfx option of freerdp.

Regards,
Vladimir

Hello,

for quite some time I’m using the LTSP in many schools. In my case im using it
as a base for xfreerdp to connect to a windows Terminalserver (2012R2).

For screen_07 in config i have xfreerdp /f /sec:rdp /v:SERVERIP.

Is someone running a similar scenario? I’m still searching for a way to
redirect USB devices like LEGO Mindstorms and a way if possible to take
advantage of the local client hardware to run Youtube and so on smoother.

Thx in advance and have a nice day

[Ltsp-discuss] No booting and files missing in Ubuntu 15.04 Kernel 3.19

2015-09-23 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello list,

im testing ltsp with Xubuntu 15.04 and Kernel 3.19-0-15. So far i installed
xubuntu 15.04 installed updates, added ppa:ts.sch.gr and installed ltsp-server
and ltsp-client in the lastest version.

After all this I did a:
ltsp-update-image –c /
ltsp-config dnsmasq
ltsp-config lts.conf

The problems I encountered are:

1. After ltsp-update-image –c / things like pxelinux.0 and pxelinux.cfg
were not created

2. If I do this manually and start my client I get in the negotiation
part a:

Overlayfs: missing upperdir or lowerdir or workdir

Mounting overlayfs on /root failed: Invalid argument

Mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: no such file or directory

Mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: no such file or directory

Mounting /sys on /root/proc failed: no such file or directory

Target filesystem doesn’t have requested /sbin/init-ltsp

No init found. Try passing init= bootarg

Busybox

Is there some way to fix this?

Best regards
Martin

Betreff: [Ltsp-discuss] usb pendrives both for ldm and xfreerdp

Hi,

I use ltsp from debian jessie. LTSP terminals both served ldm login and
rdesktop to a windows server:
[default]
SERVER  = 192.168.3.2
RDP_SERVER  = 192.168.3.3
RDP_OPTIONS = -f -a 16 -k hu -r sound:local
SCREEN_04   = rdesktop
SCREEN_05   = ldm
SCREEN_DEFAULT  = 05
..

Now, I see that xfreerdp preferred to
rdesktop and I am just trying to convert the old RDP_OPTIONS according to
xfreerdp man:
RDP_OPTIONS = /f /bpp:16 /kbd:0x040E /vc:rdpsnd,sys:alsa
SCREEN_04   = xfreerdp

however, I am not sure whether this is right.

Moreover, I am wondering whether it is possible to share the USB drives through
freerdp, and what is its correct parameters?

The USB sticks can be accessed after ldm login without problem, and a terminal
is mostly used either for ldm or for freerdp login exclusively.

TIA,

Hello list,

im using a xubuntu 14.04 with ltsp 5.5.1 pnp.

On the server I configured a ldap authentication which works so far good. If I
login on my local server I get all my folders all, software, groups and so on.

When I boot a client and log in I only get me own home folder but folders like
all, software and groups as well as the rest don’t appear.

Only if I connect these folders manually I have access to them.

In the lts.conf I added FSTAB_0=”10.0.0.2:/home /home nfs defaults 0 0”.

The Server has in the fstab 10.0.0.2:/home /home nfs defaults 0 0.

Does anyone know why I only get my home folder on clients but on the server I
get every folder I should get?

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] winxp in virtual vdi inside Ubuntu ltsp server

Hello,

this sounds like a very interesting project but I don’t understand how you do
it.

Just as an info im using xubuntu 14.04 and ltsp 5.5.1

Do you install vbox and the vm and do a new image with ltsp-update-image -c /?
Then every client should have vbox and the vm to work with.

Or do you install it on the server and exclude it from the ltsp-image-build and
let every client access the vm on the server?

Or maybe there is a third even better way to do this.

Best regards
Martin

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] USB drive not mounting over rdesktop

2015-04-20 Thread Funke, Martin
Hey,

i had the same issue as you. So this is what i did:

lts.conf:
SCREEN_07=rdesktop
RDP_SERVER=IP
RDP_OPTIONS=-r disk:Drives=/mnt/usb

After this you install usbmount with sudo apt-get install usbmount.

In /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf you go to MOUNTPOINTS.
For me it looks like this:
MOUNTPOINTS=/mnt/usb /media/usb0 and so on.

This worked for me.

If you have any questions feel free to ask :).

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Trusty Tahir with LTSP 5.5.1-1ubuntu2.
Both the server and client images are at the latest level and are kept up to

Occasionally when one client is powered up and negotiates a DHCP address all
other machines go blank, or maybe have error messages indicating a SQUASHFS
error, unable to connect. This happens fairly randomly and (annoyingly I can't
reproduce it.

Looking at /var/log/syslog I think these messages may relate to when I have a

renegotiate with the server and the boot process is successful.

These keep occurring until 192.168.0.22 is rebooted.

I am thinking of changing to use NFS rather than NBD, but would prefer to fix
this as is.

2015-03-18 Thread Funke, Martin
Thx for your help but the howto didn’t work for me.

Through trial and error I found a way for me to get it working.

On the ltsp server I created /mnt/usb in
/etc/ltsp/ltsp/ltsp-update-image-excludes I removed /mnt.

With apt-get install usbmount I installed a tool for automounting. In
/etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf you can add in MOUNTPOINTS=/mnt/usb

Im not really sure if usbmount is really necessary but with all this its
working.

Some of it is a bit dated, but a lot of it is still valid.

[Ltsp-discuss] rdesktop usb redirection black screen

2015-03-16 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello list,

in lts.conf i configured my clients as followed:

SCREEN_07=rdesktop –r disk:usb=/media/ -f -z SERVER

The only thing I get is a black screen and that’s it. When I use this on my
local installed Ubuntu 14.04 everything works fine.
In ltsp environment there is only a black screen. Does someone know a why its
like that?

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] LTSP Soundsetting

2015-01-08 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello,

i tried these setting but they dont work. My test user always have a volume of
33%.

In the ltsp default volume is 90 but not for me or it just doesn’t work.

For me is important that in a rdp session which starts right away
(SCREEN_07=rdesktop.) is louder.

Bash.bashrc worked but only in the ldm session but not if I start rdesktop
right away.

Is there something else what I could use?

Best regards

Is there a way to tell the client to start at a 100% sound volume or
 even a 200% one?

  apt-get install ltsp-docs

  man lts.conf

Look at the section SOUND AND VOLUME CONTROL PARAMETERS.

I'll note that arbitrary variable names depending on your sound card may be
needed, if it doesn't implement the standard types documented there.
Essentially setting XYZ_VOLUME will set the volume control for the XYZ channel.

I think 100% is the max.

You can use Epoptes (http://www.epoptes.org/ [1]) it's like italc for

Yes, Epoptes is a much updated project that has been developed to work very
well with ltsp whereas italc still has many issues that make it less usable.

Just in case that someone has the same problem.

The solution is to add in lts.conf:
FSTAB_1=”10.0.0.2:/home /home nfs defaults 0 0”
exchange the ip 10.0.0.2 with your own NFS-Server IP.

- Ldap installation =
-apt-get install libnss-ldapd libpam-ldapd auth-client-config ldap-auth-client
ldap-auth-config nslcd nscd nfs-common
-pam-auth-update –force
-update-rc.d nslcd enable
- in /etc/fstab -admin:/home/homenfsdefaults00

What works so far is that every ldap user can logon to the server. What doesn’t
work is that no user get in “file system /home/ the server directories.”

When I logon directly on the server I get the different directories in /home.
For example all, software, groups etc.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

It didn't automatically login, it also didn't change the hostname of the system

So it's not picking up my lts.conf file. I even tried rebuilding the image

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] ltsp-build-client and dist parameter

2014-07-05 Thread Funke, Martin
Hi,

as far as i know the ltsp uses nbd for mounting the filesystem.

For documents, pictures and so on from the users i use ldap. For example: the
user logs in and get all his files via autofs from the fileserver.

If you have a chroot you need to chroot into this file and install your
application there.

When you are running an ubuntu 14.04 you have ltsp 5.5.1 so you simply do a
ltsp-update-image -c / . Now every client will run as a flat client and has
every app the server has.

We just implemented a LMDE LTSP server at our Linux User Group lab so we are
just starting learning LTSP and I apologize for the newbie questions:

Is it correct that the Thin/Fat client mount via NFS their filesystem ? (If
think yes, since I had to update the export file...)
What are the steps I have to do if I want to ad files (documents, picture,

What are the steps if I want to add an application ready for the clients ? (an

Since Ubuntu and Debian are fairly close, you might be able to install one from
the other, but you'll need to force the VENDOR used. For example, on an Ubuntu
server:

  VENDOR=Debian ltsp-build-client --dist wheezy

or on a Debian server:

  VENDOR=Ubuntu ltsp-build-client --dist precise

Mint is a little odd, in that it's essentially Ubuntu with some extra packaging
and settings, so it's technically implemented as an Ubuntu variant in
ltsp-build-client.

And Mint Debian Cinnamon 64 bit has been installed on the server we are setting
up at our LUG to experiment on LTSP.
We were forced to specify --dist and we specified

ltsp-build-client --dist wheezy

Time to fix the DHCP server that didn't start on the second eth and we'll
see...!

I can't speak for how the other linux distros work...

It is our intention to test a few of them, hope to be able to share the results.

Many thanks!

Howtos are always welcomed.

[Ltsp-discuss] Ubuntu 14.04 LTSP now working?

2014-06-10 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello,

last time when i tested ltsp in 14.04 it only worked for 2 or more times and
then every client got a busybox.

If I am not totally wrong some said it was a problem in the kernel and should
be fixed soon.

So has something happened to make this work ?

Best regards from Germany

2014-06-10 Thread Funke, Martin
Hi,

puhhh I can’t really remember which kernel I used. The only thing I know is
that I was using the Ubuntu 14.04 when it was released.

So far im using 12.04 still in testing environment but this week I will test it
on the users.

I will give 14.04 tomorrow a new chance and then I will see if it works alright.

Best regards
Martin

Hello Martin,
I tryed LTSP with 14.04 (VirtualBox, to be precise) and it seems working fine.
Since I'm going to present it, I wonder if there are hidden problems I didn't
face yet:
Which kernel did you use ?

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Ubuntu ltsp 5.5.1 some img questions

2014-06-06 Thread Funke, Martin
Hi,

only to get this right.

Ltsp-update-image -c / builds the img / chroot for the clients. Every app on
the server will be accessible after the build of .img.

To determin that the client (Core2Duo 2x3Ghz 4GB ram ) runs as a fat client is
to be set in lts.confLOCAL_APPS=True?

There are some things I would like to know more:

1.After ltsp-build-client –c / the client img is build. So during the
pxe boot the client says img 1700MB negotiate to 512MB. Is this
 already a fat client img?

1700 is /opt/ltsp/images/i386.img, which is the chroot that ltsp-pnp built from
your server's disk (/).

2.How can I determine which app should work as a local app? There
 isn’t a chroot anymore.

All apps run as local apps in fat clients.

3.Is there a way to use a smaller img with only the important things
to get the client to work?

The image doesn't get loaded in RAM so it can be e.g. 10 GB, and run on clients
with 512 MB RAM.

If you want to remove things, you remove them from the server and run
ltsp-update-image -c / again.

Hi Larry,

the how to i sent you is relaying on a external dhcp. I am using a Suse
Enterprise as a DHCP Server so this how to works for me.

After the installation of ltsp-server ltsp-client and dnsmasq you can do
ltsp-config dnsmasq.

The config file is in /etc/dnsmasq.d/ltsp...

In this config you can with # disable some options. There you can take out the
dhcp range.

Thanks, Martin, for your suggestion. That how-to, though, seems to head down a
path I wanted to avoid: relying on the server machine as the networks DHCP
service.

My effort instead was directed (by http://irclogs.ltsp.org/?d=2013-07-23) to
run, at the client's initramfs prompt

nbd-client 192.168.0.202 -N /opt/ltsp/i386 /dev/nbd0

In the server machine's /var/log/syslog file, I get

nbd_server[5020]: Spawned a child process
nbd_server[5021]: virststyle ipliteral
nbd_server[5021]: connect from 192.168.0.102, assigned file is
/opt/ltsp/images/i386.img
nbd_server[5021]: Can't open authorization file /etc/ltsp/nbd-server.allow (No
such file or directory).
nbd_server[5021]: Starting to serve
nbd_server[5021]: Size of exported file/device is 299384832

On the client machine,

Negotiation: ..size = 285MB
bs=1024, sz=299384832 bytes

and then back to the (initramfs) prompt - though it looks, from
http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2009/02/nbd-tutorial-network-block-device-jumpstart-guide/,
that instead of being returned to the prompt there, I should see connected
...

Even after several minutes, there is no further indication of anything
happening. But if on the server I run

service nbd-server stop

then on the client machine I see

[ 323.094338] block nbd0: Receive control failed (result -32)

as if by stopping the nbd-server, even after several minutes, I interrupted
something.

Error: Socket failed: Connection refused Exiting.
modprobe: module unknown not found in modules.dep
mount: mounting /dev/nbd0 on /root failed: No such file or directory

etc.

Long Story:

On the server machine, I'm running Debian Testing.

# cat /etc/debian_version

returns

jessie/sid

# uname -a

returns

Linux 3.10-3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.10.11-1 (2013-09-10) x86_64 GNU/Linux

On it, I would like to run ltsp, but not dhcp, which is already provided by a
D-Link router. (The router's IP address is 192.168.0.1. I have used the
router's user interface to give my server machine a static IP address:
192.168.0.202. The rest of the machines are given dynamic IP addresses by the
router's DHCP service.)

Therefore, following instructions at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2173749, I have run

# apt-get install ltsp-server dnsmasq

then

# ltsp-build-client --arch i386

(The thin client is a netbook computer currently running 32-bit Windows 7.)

Question 1: How to undo the changes made by the ltsp-build-client command? I
haven't found anything like an ltsp-remove-client command.

Still following the above referenced instructions, I added ipappend 3 to the
bottom of the file at /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default.

I then created a file at /etc/dnsmasq.d/ltsp.conf and put into it:

enable-tftp
tftp-root=/var/lib/tftpboot

dhcp-range=192.168.0.0,proxy

dhcp-option=vendor:PXEClient,6,2b

dhcp-no-override

log-dhcp

pxe-prompt=Press F8 for boot menu, 3
pxe-service=x86PC, Boot from network, /ltsp/i386/pxelinux pxe-service=x86PC,
Boot from local hard diskpolaris:/home/gregs#

I then restarted the dnsmasq by running

# service dnsmasq restart

Per instructions at https://wiki.debian.org/LTSP/Howto, I then set up what I
think is called an NFS export by adding to the bottom of the file at
/etc/exports.
 a line saying

/opt/ltsp *(ro,no_root_squash,async,no_subtree_check)

I then restarted the NFS server by running

# service nfs-kernel-server restart

I then started up the then client machine, and set it in its BIOS to do a
boot-from-network.

It seemed to get off to a good start, saying:

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] Busybox with ltsp 5.5 and xubuntu12.04

2014-02-28 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello,

what i found out so far. Ltsp-server 5.5 from the repo ts.sch.gr will only work
if you don’t do a ltsp-build-client instead you have to do a ltsp-update-image
--cleanup / .

If i only do a ltsp-build-client I end up in the busy box. A ltsp-update-image
-cleanup / makes a huge diffent. Instead o a busy box the client gets a login
screen.

Does anyone know why it only works this way?

Best regards

If you're doing a single network card setup, it's probably trying to connect
to your router rather than the LTSP server. You'll need to add IPAPPEND=3 to
/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ltsp/update-kernels.conf, then run:

Till the point of /opt/ltsp/i386/etc I have this folders but I am missing
ltsp/update-kernels.conf

sudo ltsp-chroot /usr/share/ltsp/update-kernel sudo ltsp-update-kernels

This should add ipappend lines to
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default, which should tell pxelinux
to pass boot arguments to avoid making a second DHCP request, which could be
directly from your router, and not contain the needed LTSP information.

I added ipappend 3 in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default but the
busybox still appears.

If your LTSP thin client environment is amd64, change i386 to amd64 above.
Sorry the build above didn’t match my problem. To change from i386 to amd64 or
the opposite case is clear.

I only have this problem with ltsp 5.5 from the repo ts.sch.gr when I install
ltsp-server from the default repos I have version 5.3.7 and it works.

What I'm curious about is what is the difference?

Best regards
Martin

If you're doing a single network card setup, it's probably trying to connect
to your router rather than the LTSP server. You'll need to add IPAPPEND=3 to
/opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ltsp/update-kernels.conf, then run:

Till the point of /opt/ltsp/i386/etc I have this folders but I am missing
ltsp/update-kernels.conf

sudo ltsp-chroot /usr/share/ltsp/update-kernel
sudo ltsp-update-kernels

Martin

[Ltsp-discuss] Busybox with ltsp 5.5 and xubuntu12.04

2014-02-25 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello list,

at the moment im trying to get ltsp 5.5 with xubuntu 12.04 to run.

What i did so far:

-add-apt-repository --yes ppa:ts.sch.gr

-apt-get install ltsp-server dnsmasq

-ltsp-build-client

-vim /etc/dnsmasq.conf -

# Deaktivieren der DNS-Funktionalität
port=0
# Den eingebauten TFTP-Server nutzen
enable-tftp
# Verzeichnis für die Dateien der Clients
tftp-root=/var/lib/tftpboot
# Kein Multicast erlaubt
dhcp-option=vendor:PXEClient,6,2b
# Kompatibilität zu älteren oder fehlerhaften DHCP-Clients
dhcp-no-override
# Dnsmasq wird zu einem Proxy-DHCP. Die IP-Adresse ist diejenige des Servers
dhcp-range=192.168.1.5,proxy
# Ein PXE-Menü wird benötigt, sonst funktioniert Proxy-DHCP mit dnsmasq nicht.
Die Zahl gibt die Sekunden an, nach denen der erste Eintrag gestartet wird
pxe-prompt=F8 druecken fuer Bootoptionen, 3
# Eintrag für Netzwerkboot
pxe-service=X86PC, Netzwerkboot, /ltsp/i386/pxelinux
#pxe-service=X86PC, Netzwerkboot, /ltsp/amd64/pxelinux
# Netzwerkboot abbrechen
pxe-service=X86PC, Lokale Festplatte, 0
# Dnsmasq wird gesprächig und schreibt nach /var/log/syslog
log-dhcp

What worked till the point with the error is:

1. Client received dhcp and dnsmasq informations

2. Client loads image

3. Loading screen

4. Busybox error message: ubuntu ltsp mounting /dev/nbd0 on /root failed

Im really new in this stuff if you need more informations just let me know.

Best regards from Germany

Re: [Ltsp-discuss] lts.conf settings being ignored

2014-02-25 Thread Funke, Martin
Hi,

i have the same problem. The only way is to use /opt/ltsp/i386/etc lts.conf.

It's the only lts.conf which is being recognised. What i really dont like is
you need every time you change something you have to do a ltsp-update-image.

An other way would be another ltsp version. I know from one version there exist
a ltsp-config.
ltsp-config creates a lts.conf in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386.

Betreff: [Ltsp-discuss] lts.conf settings being ignored

Hello,

I hope you are all doing very well today.

Yesterday I was attempting to configure a printer attached to a thin
client, when it wasn't working. I've done it many times so I know the
procedure. I soon realized that my lts.conf is being processed but
ignored.

Nearly 6 hours later, and at least 4 hours on LTSP IRC with some kind
people, and there's no solution. I lost most of my hair from
frustration so I'm hoping someone has a clue here.

The details:
- Edubuntu 12.04 LTS
- lts.conf is located in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/amd64/lts.conf
- if I specify settings in both [default] and [mac address], all the
thin clients will hang upon reboot. Specifically they'll PXE boot,
download the image from the server, load the screen that says edubuntu
with the dots under it, and then freeze.
- if I comment out the settings under [default] OR under [mac
address], the thin clients will load correctly but will ignore
whatever the settings are that are not commented out
- if I comment out everything, the thin clients will load correctly

Example lts.conf that will allow the thin clients to load correctly:
[default]
SOUND=false
SCREEN_07=shell
#[00:22:64:BB:60:A8]
#SCREEN_01=shell

That's all that's in the file. The thin clients will load the GUI
correctly and will have full sound, even though it should have a shell
only and no sound!

If I uncomment the last 2 lines, the thin clients will hang upon boot.

Also spacing seems to play a role. If I take the *exact* same working
lts.conf as above, but press enter between the two stanzas, it will
hang.

[default]
SOUND=false
SCREEN_07=shell
I press enter here
#[00:22:64:BB:60:A8]
#SCREEN_01=shell

This is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Thank you
Joseph

[Ltsp-discuss] LTSP and Multicast performance?

2013-12-04 Thread Funke, Martin
Hello everyone,

im just wondering if there is any performance gain in using multicast.

Im using Ubuntu 12.04 ltsp in some schools. So in some classes we have 15 PCs
which would boot at the same time.

Could there be any use of multicast?

Right now I don’t have the right Switch for this to test myself but maybe some
one can help me out.
