Hiyas Lubuntueers,

can you go and proof read all of
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation and let us
know if there are any bits not working. Then we can set up the auto
divert from the old area and 'comply' with the documentation rules for
help pages.

Hiyas, as you move pages over can you put on the old / new link

Jarred has already moved over and reformatted

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/AlternateInstall
 from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/DocumentationHelp#Alternate
Install

That is our template, we have to go back and alter the internal
links when
we've got everything moved over. Once that is done we have the
extra task of
setting up the redirects from the exisiting wiki area. So, not a
big job
then :P The reason I've been quiet on this is that I wanted absolute
assurance that we were not having to do it twice. As Charles
(cproffit)
approved the header page and indeed made the header for it, and
Connor has
approved the 1st page that Jarred transferred over; we've been a
green light
 to get on with it.

 Thanks guys.

 Regards,

 Phill.

I have just had a quick look over it all and from what I can tell Zach
has done a great job. I had a couple of links I fixed up (which I
think I originally changed incorrectly) and I have fixed up the
Contact Us link in the header so it points to the wiki contact us. I
did look into making a separate help.ubuntu contact us page but then
the sublinks and things got a bit messy.

Please double and triple check it all and great work Zach.

Regards,

Jared Norris
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JaredNorris

I'll certainly look it all over just one more time Jared, and thanks for
the compliment Phill, you know it's not needed. It is my pleasure to
work with you guys and I'm honored by the way you do things. Let's
continue shall we?

[Lubuntu-desktop] Removing abiword in Synaptic removes lubuntu-desktop

2010-12-28 Thread Clemens Eisserer
Hello,

I would like to remove a few programs that are installed by default
when installing from the lubuntu live-cd.
However when I e.g. remove abiword in synaptics, it automatically
selects lubuntu-desktop for removal.

Will it really delete the whole lubuntu-desktop packages?

Thanks, Clemens

If it is of any help for an entry in the wiki, this is the slightly
extended Dropbox.desktop file that I use in both .config/autostart and
.local/share. The latter will make it appear in the menu (should you need to
restart). I also attach the dropbox icon to be put in /usr/share/pixmaps.
When the deamon starts it shows up in the system dock.

I have dropbox installed on hajour her eeepc 901
I added nautilus to it, so it works nicely,
nautilus is only started when you open the folder form dropbox

My next issue is with Chromium sync, where she keeps her bookmarks backupped

.local/share. The latter will make it appear in the menu (should you need to
restart). I also attach the dropbox icon to be put in /usr/share/pixmaps.
When the deamon starts it shows up in the system dock.

Nice, all we need now is the mods to xdg-open so pcmanfm is opened,
 which I can't find.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] A modest suggestion - a list of lightweight applications suitable for Lubuntu

Would it be an idea to have a list of lightweight applications suitable for

I think this is a good idea, new Linux users don't have enough
experience to find out what applications are lightweight for their
machines or not.

All the best

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] drop box

I should have know there would be a snob among us.

So do you want to help or should I go back to Peppermint?

Relax Tim, you're not the first to get this treatment. Almost seems like
there is a need for genuflections by others who are historically earlier
on the list. A sort of pecking order, so to speak. Laughable in a linux
culture.

And yes, more than a few here need to understand sudo, apt-get and
aptitude better rather than accusing others of not understanding them so
as to act condescending and haughty. I was asked to refer some 4 web
pages and after wasting my frigging time doing that, found out the OP
did not really understand sudo and all that he really wants was to
appear high and mighty. And I guess that's the only environment in which
they can contribute.

But having said that, I suppose there will be people like that in every
list, and to let some asses, who are not developers BTW, subvert what
could be a good system, is defeatist and counter productive, not to
mention unlinuxlike.

I hope you can rise above these petty grouses and look forward to
hearing more from you.

Take care - Goh Lip

[Lubuntu-desktop] Chromium Sync

2010-12-28 Thread K.de Jong
Hello,

On a newly installed lubuntu 10.10
I wanted to sync chromium with google, this was not possible, the process
run after google auth just stops.
I did some updates after that, installed ubuntu tweak and added the ppa to
chromium stable.
It seems chromium did a little better, but it still is not possible to sync
with google.
Is there some special hack i need to do to get this working ?

[Lubuntu-desktop] Panel bug

2010-12-28 Thread matthew byers
WARNING: If i am correct in the discovery of this bug it will make your
panel disappear and force you to hard kill your system (unless you have Hot
Keys setup to get to a terminal without panel!)

So i think i have found a bug and here are the steps to reproduce:
1. Right click on panel and select, Add/Remove Panel Items
2. Select the, Panel Applets tab
3. Click on the double window iconfiy icon in bottom left corner of screen
next to virtual desktops

Again i state if i am correct in this than your panel should disappear and
you will have to reboot system to get it back. I tried using Task Manager to
get panel back but was unsuccessful. I did this in a installed environment,
NOT in virtual box so i suggest maybe trying in virtual box if lubuntu is
your only OS installed on system.
