Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 Testing

2011-12-13 Thread
this is inconsistent with my experience. the first time i used zsync was
with alpha. first i downloaded (http!) the daily iso, but realized i
wanted alpha. so then i zsync'd the alpha in the directory with the iso.
it read the .zsync, then checked the iso and only updated the
difference. i've even gone from ubuntu->lubuntu and vice versa this way.
i've NEVER had to download the whole thing again. that being said, i'm
totally hooked on zsync now. that and the resumes work out really well.
never http again!

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 Testing

2011-12-13 Thread amjjawad HOOHAA
Yorvyk and Phill,

Thank you so much for both of you :)

I'll keep using "zsync" then instead of downloading the daily ISO every
time. However, I think with Beta 2, I'll download the ISO again.

I'm doing it on Real Hardware, not on Virtual Machine. Now, I just need to
fix the black screen issue that it seems stuck. I'm sure I'm not the only
one and I guess it's the same issue that has been mentioned few hours ago
on the mailing list.

Thanks again :)

2011-12-13 Thread Phill Whiteside
Indeed,

the 1st time you zsync on an already installed ISO it goes and grabs the
entire darn thing again! Better, as advised, to use zsync to grab it in the
first instance.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Reminder : IRC meeting tomorrow 20h UTC + Agenda

2011-12-13 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi Julien,

as always, the QA meeting is just before the Lubuntu one. Is there anything
for the QA team pertaining to Lubuntu that you wish me to raise?

On the plus side, I finally updated my 9.10 system to 11.04 (Lubuntu, of
course) and have now got access to the Virtual Machines again for testing.
Hopefully I can get back involved on testing stuff!

Regards,

Phill.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Users' Threads - Help Needed

2011-12-13 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hi JerryLA

The "blue wallpaper" I was talking about was from the LXLauncher, like
this picture: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/images/5/5c/LXlauncher.png
You can see the LXLauncher if you choose something like "Lubuntu
Netbook" or if you type "lxlauncher" on terminal.

I didn't tested the Precise yet, cause I am waiting the Beta1. If
someone changed something at the LXLauncher, I will be very happy =] ,
but I didn't saw any e-mail with someone saying that it is now
possible to change the "wallpaper" from LXLauncher.

att,

Gabriel Salles

Sorry if my previous Email caused any confusion.
I have downloaded The Daily Build (08-12) - more details here:

I was just wondering whether I have to keep downloading and installing from
time to time? or just upgrade using zsync?

Hope it's clear now :)

I have had issue with downloading a iso without using zsync and then trying
to zsync updates. I would suggest using zsync to download then continue to
use zsync to update.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu 12.04 Alpha 1 Testing

2011-12-13 Thread amjjawad HOOHAA
Hi Julien, Phill and Everyone :)

Last time I did a test for Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 2, Phill advised to download
the daily build iso and install it rather than using "zsync". Does it stand
true on Alpha 1 as well? do I have to download the daily build? If yes, how
often do I have to do that? obviously, it doesn't make sense to do that
daily. My internet isn't that fast and during downloading, I can't do much
except waiting - any other website will be slow.

Thank you :)

[Lubuntu-desktop] [Bug 903895] Re: [12.04] gnome-session is trying to install unity on lubuntu

2011-12-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the issue is a lubuntu one, gnome-bluetooth does need gnome-control-
center since the preferences dialog is a .so for gnome-control-center,
the ui can't be displayed without it

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Users' Threads - Help Needed

2011-12-13 Thread amjjawad HOOHAA
Hello Gabriel,

Good to see you still active over here :)

I THINK that some of those problems is better if they report at Launchpad,
> and not at the forum.

Most of users, including me, start their searching for a solution or
seeking for support journey from the forums, of course after doing some
Google Search (which in most cases direct them to one of these forums).
IMHO, reporting a problem on Launchpad should be done if there is NO Real
Solution/Fix to a particular issue OR it's an obvious bug (but again, how
can we tell whether it's a bug or not?).
For a small (BUT GREAT) team like us (Lubuntu), reporting issues on
Launchpad directly without checking the forum will add extra work to the
developer and above all, on forums, you probably could find a solution
easier and faster. Maybe I'm wrong but this is what I think.

I understand nothing is perfect but it's good to pursuit for perfection.
One of the cases, the user was waiting for 6 months with no answer. He/She
moved to XFCE and that honestly bothered me. LXDE is good, in fact amazing
but definitely needs more care and support.

Thanks!

if i get this output correctly, xinit is causing this

michael@eeebuntu:~$ sudo aptitude why unity
i xinit Recommends xterm | x-session-manager | x-window-manager |
x-terminal-emulator
p gnome-session Provides x-session-manager

p   gnome-session Recommends unity | unity-2d | gnome-shell (>= 3.0)

the dependencies should be fixed, because on a lubuntu-system you dont want
unity or other stuff which does not belong to lxde

There also appears to be a large number of compiz related packages as well.

Confirmed.
I've was looking through Synaptic to see what unity-greeter is and noticed
there are quite a few unity bits and pieces installed. There appears to be
about a dozen of them with unity in the package name. I would imagine this is
just a dependency/recommends issue.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Users' Threads - Help Needed

2011-12-13 Thread Gabriel Salles
Hello amjjawad and everybody!

I THINK that some of those problems is better if they report at
Launchpad, and not at the forum.

Taking advantage of this email, I will comment on a "problem" at
LxLauncher. It is the unchangeable "blue wallpaper" that I believe
that everybody knows about. But I think I am the only one who uses the
LxLauncher and everybody have more important things to do at the
LXDE/Lubuntu project.

I don't have the knowledge to fix that, so I'm translating what needs
to be translated (LSC, for example) and waiting the day that someone
will have the time to change what needs to be changed at LxLauncher.

att,
Gabriel Salles

[Lubuntu-desktop] Users' Threads - Help Needed

2011-12-13 Thread amjjawad HOOHAA
Hi Everyone,

Feel like I haven't sent anything in ages :)

I have noticed some threads that need some attention. Recurring issues with
no REAL fix. Not to expect much from my side as some of these issues are
not a real problem for me. However, these issues might be a real problem
for others.

I'll post the threads and hope someone has a real solution or at least a
final answer to these and ... as always ... your support is highly
appreciated and thanks in advance :)

*Window Position:* http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31200
I do have the same issue by the way - Lubuntu 11.10 from a normal
installation - 32 bit.

*

Issues with lxdm in Lubuntu:*
http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31470

*Downloading LXDE:* http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31467
Please note that I'll handle this case but I'm just reporting that so LXDE
Team will look at this issue on LXDE website.

*Disable middle click tab close in LXTerminal: *
http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31247

That's all for now but I might need more help soon with more threads.
I'm having some personal issues over here and I'm having hard time ... it's
really hard to help others and solving your own problems but I'm enjoying
something at least (which is kind of a relief) and I do hope I can go back
to my activities. I miss the mailing list :P

Thanks!
