[Lubuntu-desktop] How To Add Apps To Panel?
Hi, I am working on the review and everything about Lubuntu is positive and very encouraging. However, I problem is that Unity/Gnome 3 has spoiled me. (I don't like Global Menu and that's the reason I use Gnome 3 shell and not Unity). Its very easy to open an app, just hit Superkey and start typing the name. Or you can drag and drop item to the Favourite bar or Launcher. Under Lubuntu I failed to do that. When I added one more panel on the top to put all the often needed apps I can't drag and drop apps to the panel or to the AWN. Any suggestions? Many users will like it. -- Swapnil Bhartiya Editor: Muktware.com Skype: No Way...its non-free. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] How To Access PCs on Local Network
In pcmanfm, click on Go -> Network Drives, and browse to the desired machine and share. Under Go > Network I only see Windows Network (I don't have any windows machines, all are either Ubuntu or openSUSE) , clicking on it does nothing. It also doesn't show my other PC. As others pointed to use SMB also did not work. I then tried ssh://MACHINE_IP:PORT/LOCATION and it worked. So, I feel there is need for documentation. Thanks everyone for assistance. [Lubuntu-desktop] How To Access PCs on Local Network
Hi, Under Ubuntu's Nautilus its very easy to connect to other PCs, just use the "Connect to Server" option, enter the IP of the machine, user name and password and you can access the drives on that PC. [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Review: Suggestions
Hi, I am working on a review of Lubuntu 11.10 for Muktware.com. I found it quite useful for those Ubuntu users who don't want 'shiny' and bleeding edge technologies. They migrated from Windows and now considering Mint (which I have no issues with). I think Lubuntu can be a Luring Ubuntu for such users. The review will focus on ease of use. I may recommend apps such as LibreOffice etc. Any pointers are welcome. Please advice. -- Swapnil Bhartiya ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop Post to : lubuntu-desktop@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] 431 users!
I have been using Lubuntu on my Dell Mini. Found it far more efficient than Xubuntu or Ubuntu. Only gripe, on smaller screen Global Menu does give more real estate, though it suck on anything but netbooks. -- Swapnil Bhartiya Editor: Muktware.com Skype: No Way...its non-free. If we get to know about where you are running short of hands, we can pitch-in and try to address that in Muktware's Lubuntu Manuan, since it will be under CCL, you can use what you find useful. Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Manual?
I think the excitement about documentation is great, you can never work too hard on documentation. However I don't see the value in creating yet another source. I'd be more excited to see people contributing to the already existing documentation on the Wiki [0], the help site [1] [2] and the semi-official manual [3]. Dispersing effort on multiple projects to achieve the same goal seems a bit counter-productive to me but I guess that's the great thing about Linux, everyone is free to do as they please. [0] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu [1] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation [2] https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/ubuntu-help/index.html [3] http://ubuntu-manual.org/ I totally understand and agree with you. We are trying to create user-centric manual for all major distros and Lubuntu is going to be a hot property. The users who come to Muktware to read stories will be able to see benefits from such manuals. Since all manuals are at one place, they can also learn how something is done on other distros. In the end all it is going to do is complement each other. NOTE: We are about to publish a user-centric manual of Arch Linux as well :-). So, you can look at it as all the quality manuals at one place. We will assist the team with the official manual as well. Our content is released under CC licence so anyone can use it. My current thinking and proposal is that we do actually add a Lubuntu section to the main manual. This will cover parts that are specifically Lubuntu. It is, however, no minor task as we would be altering a lot of pages to include references to Lubuntu for specific tasks. I'd like a bit more time to chat with the Manual team and ask them what they suggest. Regards, Phill. Hi, Thanks. I have a proposal 1. Do we keep this discussion here or discuss within a group, so that what ever conversation you have with the team and see what they suggest. 2. I can create a TOC (table of content) based on the Ubuntu manual and share with the team. We have experience with manuals as we also created Linux Mint manual and Fedora 15 manual. So, we can create a TOC and focus on what is specific to Lubuntu (especially installing on variety of hardware and driver issues, if any). 3. We can also add section on light weight apps, which don't come pre-installed but can be useful for users for specific tasks. 4. We can also have a tips/tricks chapter to better utilize Lubuntu. 5. The entire manual will be created from scratch. Don't worry about man-hours we will have to invest in creating it. If we start early we can deliver the manual the day Lubuntu 11.10 is launched. Note: we can also create additional YouTube manual. [Lubuntu-desktop] Lubuntu Manual?
Hi, We created a detailed manual of Ubuntu 11.04 [1] for Muktware.com. I personally use Lubuntu on my Dell mini as it is faster than Xubuntu.
