Just open a bug report on launchpad and add a link in this report of
the documentation for dropbox or to this thread, so I'll not forget to
have a look at it later.

Thank you :)

Just for the sake of reference, I've built Dropbox packages for this very
reason.  There will be additional work coming in the near future, but Linux
Mint and Peppermint have full Dropbox integration now.  The final packages
should be available within a week or so, the current versions are available
in the Peppermint repo and will be merged to the Linux Mint repo within the
 next couple of weeks.

Good to know, I'll propably have a look at them also :) Do you have a
link for thoses packages ?

Thanks.

Hi all.

I seem to remember installing dropbox more or less flawlessly without much
more hassle than on Gnome. I think it only depends a little gtk related
stuff that can be added easily through the installer.

 Hiyas developers,

firstly I hope you have had a restful Christmas. This is only on the 'wish
 list', but is it possible?

(21:11:01) ChrisDruif: Is there a way for dropbox to work with lubuntu?
Those other programs should work on LXDE...however, dropbox only works with
nautilus...and through a script on thunar

 Hiyas Lubunteers,

Thanks, and my kindest regards to you and your families over the festive
period. I look forward to the New Year and watching Lubuntu evolve and
finally get its rightful place as a fully adopted member of the ubuntu

The standard install is more or less flawless except the installation of
Nautilus, which in it's basic form looks not too dissimilar to pcmanfm. What
we would like is it to install with out Nautilus and to use pcmanfm in a nice
easy manner, with out having to edit config files. I've found the script Mint
use and I'm trying to fathom how it is supposed to work so it can be modified
to work with Lubuntu.

extended Dropbox.desktop file that I use in both .config/autostart and

restart). I also attach the dropbox icon to be put in /usr/share/pixmaps.
When the deamon starts it shows up in the system dock.

I have dropbox installed on hajour her eeepc 901
I added nautilus to it, so it works nicely,
nautilus is only started when you open the folder form dropbox

My next issue is with Chromium sync, where she keeps her bookmarks backupped

Relax Tim, you're not the first to get this treatment. Almost seems like
there is a need for genuflections by others who are historically earlier
on the list. A sort of pecking order, so to speak. Laughable in a linux
culture.

And yes, more than a few here need to understand sudo, apt-get and
aptitude better rather than accusing others of not understanding them so
as to act condescending and haughty. I was asked to refer some 4 web
pages and after wasting my frigging time doing that, found out the OP
did not really understand sudo and all that he really wants was to
appear high and mighty. And I guess that's the only environment in which
they can contribute.

But having said that, I suppose there will be people like that in every
list, and to let some asses, who are not developers BTW, subvert what
could be a good system, is defeatist and counter productive, not to
mention unlinuxlike.

I hope you can rise above these petty grouses and look forward to
hearing more from you.

Take care - Goh Lip

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] drop box

Hiyas boss,

do you want me to use these instructions for the wiki area or would you
prefer pcman to have a look into it?

Regards,

Phill.

 Hi all!

I have been using dropbox for a long time with LXDE, there is no problems
 at all. Go to http://wiki.dropbox.com/TipsAndTricks/TextBasedLinuxInstall.
There are instructions to run dropbox as CLI script. So 3 steps:
 1) download x86 vesrion
 2) unpack it and move to your ~ directory
 3) create in .config/autostart/ some file, for example dropbox.desktop and
 place there:
 [Desktop Entry]
 Type=Application
 Exec=.dropbox-dist/dropboxd

save it and here you are.

On every start of your system you will get dropbox autostarted. Place
something in your selected on the first run Dropbox folder and it will be
 automatically synchronized.

 Best wishes.

 Hiyas developers,

firstly I hope you have had a restful Christmas. This is only on the 'wish
 list', but is it possible?

(21:11:01) ChrisDruif: Is there a way for dropbox to work with lubuntu?
Those other programs should work on LXDE...however, dropbox only works
with nautilus...and through a script on thunar

 Hiyas Lubunteers,

Thanks, and my kindest regards to you and your families over the festive
period. I look forward to the New Year and watching Lubuntu evolve and
finally get its rightful place as a fully adopted member of the ubuntu
family. My warmest regards and thanks to every Lubuntuteer and those from
other teams that are kind enough to help out as I 'kidnap' our lubunteers to
help other other teams. Being a part of the family is what matters.

2010-12-25 Thread Phill Whiteside
Thanks Mike Steve,

I really do think it is one for advanced users
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation#Advanced%20users in
the wiki area, as we are commited to keep lubuntu lean, mean, keen and
green. But as always, we are demorocacy (provided we accept what Julien and
Mark say :P ).

As ever, your thoughts are appreciated, if the devs can incorporate it,
fine. but we do really have a spec of computer that we must maintain. What
happened to Xubuntu should not happen to Lubuntu.

Phill.

It does work with lubuntu and pcmanfm with a bit of fiddling. Not to the
full extent that it works with Nautilus with animated folders. Mint or
Peppermint has an install script that saves all the fiddling, perhaps we
 should use that.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] drop box

2010-12-25 Thread Phill Whiteside
Andy,

the problem is adding on a background task, that is why by default Lubuntu
has auto update turned off.

to have a programme accepted into lubuntu it must use no disk space,
neither can it use any CPU or RAM when it runs, other than those rules,
we're quite laid back

I have no problem whatsoever adding instructions to install it, the part it
must NOT break our CPU / RAM requirement. as it is only an option that
people 'may' adopt I see little point in proposing it for inclusion on the
install iso but will be more than happy to add it to the help page and tell
both DragonEyes about it and updating the ubuntu bot database and wiki
areas.

Regards,

Phill.

It's not that hard. Sure it takes some manual effort but the steps are
given. I could bash out an install script if following some exact
commands on a website is too hard.

The commands are clear and consise. All you have to do is copy and
paste. It's no different to being a novice chef. Your cookery skills
will be minimal but you can follow a recipe with a method by a trained
 chef.
