Re: [Lwip] The LWIG Challenge

2014-07-04 Thread Cao, Zhen (CZ)
Hi Hannes,

The cellular document was indeed a memo when the authors started to
work on communication protocols, the document is very useful for
readers and implementers when they approach the problems.

What did you learn when you read this document?

At least for example, using of send-only model for sleeping nodes to save
energy. Need of eliminating the role or acting as a COAP server or Waiting for
COAP observation subscriptions.

 - Requirement document for constrained
devices (sensors and gateway nodes) w.r.t. the IP layer
  functionalities.
  - A survey document of constrained device developers (some do that for
IPv6), link layer, battery life, applications profiles and etc.

Could you provide further details about what you think could go into such
 documents?

For the survey, we circulate a survey for set of questions for implementers and
have some summary results collected. What kind of devices (battery, chipset,
linklayer, radio, apps, transport) they are working on and protocols they are
using. Sounds good ?

With best regards,
zhen

 Hi,

Please find our draft for minimal IPsec/ESP.

 Comment are welcome!

 BR,
 Daniel

 Name:draft-mglt-lwig-minimal-esp
 Revision:00
 Title:Minimal ESP
 Document date:2014-01-31
 Group:Individual Submission
 Pages:6
 URL:http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-mglt-lwig-minimal-esp-00.txt
 Status:https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-mglt-lwig-minimal-esp/
 Htmlized:http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-mglt-lwig-minimal-esp-00

 Abstract:
This document describes a minimal version of the IP Encapsulation
Security Payload (ESP) described in RFC 4303 which is part of the
IPsec suite.

ESP is used to provide confidentiality, data origin authentication,
connectionless integrity, an anti-replay service (a form of partial
sequence integrity), and limited traffic flow confidentiality.

This document does not update or modify RFC 4303, but provides a
compact description of the minimal version of the protocol. If this
document and RFC 4303 conflicts then RFC 4303 is the authoritative
description.

Dear Zhen

I am confused that draft-kovatsch-lwig-coap-01 was scheduled. As written
earlier, I did not receive any comments or updates from the other authors and
did not have the time to improve on my sections. There is basically no status
update to report.

With the changes to –observe and –block, there will probably be some major
updates for IETF 89, though.

Best regards

Matthias

[Lwip] Review of the lwig-terminology draft

2013-02-17 Thread Cao Zhen (CZ)
Dear authors,

As individual, I do support the working group work on this direction of writing
a terminology draft.

Here I am sending my comments on the draft.
1. section 2.1, 'N=1,2' should be N=0,1,2, to be aligned with section 3.
2. section 2.3.2, the LowPAN AND 6LowPAN terms are not explicitly explained as
in other sections.
3. section 2.2.1, it seems that 'Delay tolerant networks' is a more acceptable
word for what stems from academic
4. section 2.*, 'constrained network' seems already covers 'constrained node
network', does any case we need to use the _constrained node networks_ alone?
5. how about specify a term on the _constrained link_, because it emphasizes
the link characteristic, while 'constrained nodes' emphasizes the constraint on
the node, and 'constrained network is a composition of nodes and links, either
of them being constrained'

Best regards,
zhen

 Dear All,

At Atlanta, we discussed the lwig terminology draft
 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-bormann-lwig-terms-00.txt), which is short
 but immediate
catch of the terminologies used in IETF works on lightweight protocols.

We have discussed with area directors about adding this to the mile stones of
 the working group.

As its characteristics, we would like to push the document forward to make it
 officially referable
 to the industrial.

This message starts a one-week call for adoption of this document. Please
 feedback your opinion
 before Next Tuesday.

 Thank you very much

Please find the minutes of lwig session at ietf85.

 Thanks.

PDF notes are not very easy to fix; I can't just send you a patch...

Readable but not easy to fix, I upload a txt version:
http://www.ietf.org/proceedings/85/minutes/minutes-85-lwig

Anyway, these notes are not very explicit about what we said about the
terminology draft.
By the way, the call for WG adoption for draft-bormann-lwig-terms hasn't
happened on the WG
 list, either?

We are working on to change the milestones. I do not think we can adopt a
document before there is a m.s.

I was hoping to develop this further as a WG document.
So do I. thank you
