wiki problem
On wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Manuals I get: Deprecated: Function eregi() is deprecated in /home/lyx/www/wiki.lyx.org/farm.d/cookbook/uploadlist.php Maybe PHP got upgraded there?
lyx manuals
It'd be handy to have easy access to PDF versions of LyX manuals. Is there a place where current LyX manuals are posted on the web in PDF, or could PDFs be included with the installer?

export to odt and HTML (Word)
On my LyX 2.0.4, Windows, export to odt and HTML (Word) is very broken. For example, at times I get this in messages: 23:14:21.748: C:\Users\lunacy\AppData\Local\Temp\lyx_tmpdir.Hp8096\lyx_tmpbuf3t4ht my-doc.tex -cooxtpipes -coo -ewin32/tex4ht.env 23:14:21.751: --- error --- Illegal storage address but then I also get: 23:14:21.772: Successful export to format: odt 23:18:42.401: Automatic save done. Naturally, the export fails, i.e., neither the temp dir nor the actual doc dir contain an exported file.

LyX functions for Zotero
So long as we're talking about bibliography workflow: could LyX integrate better with Zotero? Zotero is historically a Firefox add-on that has expanded to other platforms. It can collect references, files that go with those references, and it can plug in to Word and other word processors to manage citations in a document. With LyX, the best Zotero integration today is via the LyZ Firefox add-on. You can select a reference in Zotero, and then click on send to LyX. LyZ will place the reference in a bib file and send it to LyX via pipe. But what if you change the reference in Zotero that is already in the bib file? Then LyZ needs to find it in the bib file, which is not robust. And if you edit the bib file manually, then a later export from Zotero will overwrite your changes. Also, Zotero may use a different encoding than the bib file, so non-ASCII characters may be broken. You can escape characters in Zotero for LaTeX with {}, but that breaks citations of those words in other word processors. What would be useful is bi-directional communication between LyX and Zotero so that references can be changed on either end and so that there's no intermediate bib format. Zotero has plug-ins for Word and LibreOffice. Perhaps LyX could have an API that is similar to what these plug-ins require, and the Zotero folks could be convinced to extend their plug-ins to cover LyX. Could LyX make it easier to create character styles and paragraph styles in local layout? I'm thinking of a GUI that has the most frequently used options; power users would still edit the local layout directly. With that, Paragraph Settings could indeed go away.

The document class could be automatically set to the same document class as the real document being edited in LyX. Would this work for title pages and other unusual pages?

inline sweave / knitr
Over the last week or so, I've been playing with the new knitr integration (#7887), with really nice results. There's a very handy Chunk environment for sweave / knitr code. But is there any support for inline knitr in LyX? I'm thinking of, e.g., As our experiments showed, the sum of 1 and 1 equals \Sexpr{1 + 1}. This works if \Sexpr{1 + 1} is placed in an ERT span, but, unlike Chunk, that's not a semantic document structure.

If I click outside of the inset and then back into the inset, I can type then. Maybe it has to do with me using knitr instead of Sweave? I cannot reproduce this, and I believe this is unlikely to be related to the knitr module per se. Does the Sweave module work? Both the Sweave and knitr modules uses identical definitions of the Sexpr inset. OK, this is reproducible for me in 2.0.2 with Sweave (not knitr). Insert->Custom Insets->S/R Expression creates an inset that does not take input until you double-click it. (Maybe the inset is collapsed by default, like Liviu suggested, but I don't know how to check that.) Let me know if you want me to file a bug. inline code is evaluated in the global environment. How can I make inline code pay attention to R options, e.g., options(digits=2)?

Basically you rename lyxknitr.R to lyxsweave.R and put in under c:/users/me/appdata/roaming/LyX20/scripts; then your Sweave module will actually become a knitr module. But recompiling LyX shouldn't be necessary to get it to recognize a new module under c:/users/me/appdata/roaming/LyX20/layouts, right?

plans for Sweave
Sweave works beautifully in 2.0.2, huge thanks to Yihui Xie et al. But the situation beyond Sweave seems problematic. Ticket #7887 is stalled. There's neither a pgfSweave module nor a knitr module. knitr is not even available for 2.24.1 for Windows. RFE: could we have pgfSweave support in 2.0.3? knitr sounds fantastic, but I don't really want to wait for it, and pgfSweave could work today.

RFE: findreplace excluding insets
I wonder if this is on somebody's to-do list: it'd be nice to be able to find and replace but only inside (outside) certain kinds of insets, e.g., only in program listings, or e.g., everywhere except in notes.

LyXHTML fixes for 2.0.1?
Have there been fixes for LyXHTML export since 2.0.0? I have export errors like the one below. If this sounds like a new issue, let me know, and I'll try to produce a minimal test case. !-- Output Error: Tags still open in closeFontTags(). Probably not a problem, but you might want to check these tags: -- !-- Output Error: pre -- !-- Output Error: div --

Re: Lyx 2.0 RC1 saves over old format files
Richard Heck rgheck at comcast.net writes: This is a good idea, and it wouldn't be that hard to do: (i) When we open the file, set a Buffer flag if we have to convert from an older format; (ii) when we try to save, check the flag, and pop a dialog if it's set. Can you add this to trac, please? Being confronted with a dialog after making some changes really sounds like suboptimal workflow. If LyX 2.0 can save in 1.6 format, can it just default to doing that for files that are already in 1.6 format? It could also provide a separate command, enabled only for pre-2.0 files, to upgrade the format to 2.0. FWIW, this is the workflow when opening .doc files (older format) in Word 2007. The option to upgrade the format to .docx is called Convert. The window title also contains a special mark [Compatibility Mode] when a .doc file is opened. If you do use a dialog, it's also unclear what format is used for the automatically generated back-up file.

creating lyx note causes clipboard copy
In LyX 1.6.8, 1. Create a new document. 2. Type in two words, word1 and word2. 3. Select and copy word2. 4. Highlight word1 and Insert, Note, LyX Note. word1 will be placed inside a new note. 5. Paste. Expected: paste outputs word2, as copied in (3) Actual: paste outputs word1, from (4)

Perhaps creation of the note inset could save and then restore the clipboard state? The bug is even more annoying if the clipboard contents come not from LyX but from some other application. Creation of a note inset may cause data loss.

official 1.6.8 windows installer?
I see that Uwe has kindly uploaded the alternative 1.6.8 installer for Windows. Is anyone preparing the official one also?
