new installer for LyX 2.1.4 available

2016-05-15 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello Richard,

users informed me about a serious problem:
To download LaTeX packages one need to set up a default package
repository. I chose a HTTP server (because some companies block FTP by
default) at

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Hagen
because this is a distance learning-only university run by the German
government. Unfortunately they now only support FTP access and switched
off HTTP permanently. As result new installations of LyX are incomplete
because the MiKTeX installer only provides a basic subset of LaTeX.
Moreover new users are confronted with a cryptic error message about the
inexistent server.

Thus I had to release a new installer with a new default package
repository. It is still LyX 2.1.4 I only updated the third-party programs.

Could you please replace the installer version 5 with the new version 6?:

2015-12-09 Thread Cristoforo Demartino
Dear Stephan,

I finally solved my problems installing imagemagick using macports! Now both on
LyX 2.1.4 and 2.2 beta versions now correctly give a preview of eps and pdf
files.

I hope that I only had this problem with OS El Capitan because to solve it I
installed approximately 5 GB of software (Xcode etc.)

Thank you for your suggestions,

Regards,

This is a problem with the convert utility you've installed.
The binary contains the references to the dynamic libraries
with hard references to absolute paths. I cannot imagine how
this is supposed to work.

The way I've had success is using MacPorts to install the
ImageMagick utilities.

What I don't understand is why the convert utility now is missing
and why it was no problem in the past...

LYX 2.1.4 and El Capitan: Error converting eps and PDF

2015-12-03 Thread Cristoforo Demartino
I installed LyX 2.1.4. on a Mac with El Capitan. When I insert a pdf or eps
figure, LyX displays an error in converting the file; accordingly I can't see
the figure in the software.

The output PDF is created without any problem.

I was able to start LyX using the command line and this is the error: sh:
convert: command not found

This is the path:

/Library/TeX/texbin:/usr/texbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin

I obtained the same error using LyX 2.2 beta version.

Can anyone help with this issue?

I know nothing about Mac, but convert is a tool part of ImageMagick
(http://www.imagemagick.org), used to convert image files. Installing
it (Mac binaries here:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#macosx) and
adding it to your path may solve your problem.

Bug: unable to insert symbols via the Math Panels toolbar in LyX 2.1.4 on OS X 10.11

2015-10-01 Thread Sean Wood
Hi all,

Just came across this bug after installing LyX 2.1.4 on OS X 10.11, to
reproduce:

1) File > New
2) Ensure that Math Panels toolbar is visible: View > Toolbars > Math
Panels (auto)
3) Insert > Math > Inline Formula
4) In the Math Panels toolbar, click the \alpha button
5) Move the cursor over the resulting menu of symbols

Bug: The cursor becomes a "text selection", and clicking does nothing.
Expected behaviour: cursor remains as "pointer", and clicking inserts a
symbol.
Workaround: After 4), resize the document window such that the symbols
panel hovers over the desktop, 5) then work as expected.

Many thanks for a such a great piece of open source software!
Sean.

[ANNOUNCE] LyX 2.1.4 is Released

2015-07-30 Thread Richard Heck

Public release of LyX version 2.1.4
===

We are proud to announce the release of LyX 2.1.4. This is the fourth
maintenance release in the 2.1.x series.

Please note that, at this time, there are no binaries for Windows. These
will be released when some issues with the bundled LaTeX distribution
have been fixed.

LyX is a document processor that encourages an approach to writing based
on the structure of your documents and not simply their appearance. It is
released under a Free and Open Source Software license.

You can download LyX 2.1.4 from http://www.lyx.org/Download/.

LyX 2.1.4 is the result of on-going efforts to make our stable version
even more reliable and stable. We have fixed a number of bugs and made
a number of improvements. Many of these were minor, but there were a
few crashes we fixed, too. We strongly encourage all LyX users to upgrade
to this version.

If you think you have found a bug in LyX 2.1.4, please open a bug report at
http://www.lyx.org/trac/wiki/BugTrackerHome. If you're not sure whether it
really is a bug, you can e-mail the LyX developers' mailing list (lyx-devel
 lists.lyx.org) and ask.

If you have trouble using LyX or have a question, consult the
documentation that comes with LyX and the LyX wiki, which lives at
http://wiki.lyx.org/. If you can't find the answer there, e-mail the LyX
users' list (lyx-users lists.lyx.org).

We hope you enjoy using LyX 2.1.4.

The LyX team.

Dear Enrico,

It's quite strange, to me #9354 does not appear fixed at all! I just
left a detailed comment in http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/9354.

If I missed something please tell me what so that I can be more helpful
in future testings.

Best regards
