As far as I know they were allow to patch the bug only. They do not

I think this is only available for packages actively maintained on

Just updated as well with Lucid. Works well. Thanks for the ppa.

Dear LyX Users and Developers,

I wanted to provide a bit of an update to my adventures with Ubuntu
packaging (insofar as they are related to LyX).

I've spoken with the Ubuntu developers, and they have granted our
request to include 1.6.7 in the next version of Ubuntu (Maverick
Meerkat, 10.10). Packages have been compiled and are available from
Launchpad as of this moment (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyx).

For users of Lucid Lynx (10.04) who would like to upgrade, I have
created a PPA that you can use
(https://launchpad.net/~lyx-outline-devel/+archive/lyx-stable). To
update, use the following commands from the terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lyx-outline-devel/lyx-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

This will add the repository to your list of software sources and then
update any software you have installed. If you have any problems, please
let me know.

Cheers,

Rob

I'll look into it and see if I can get them included for current users of
Ubuntu. Based on what I've read, I'm not sure it's very likely, though :( But
it never hurts to ask.

Other users can upgrade using the PPA I set up this morning and the
instructions in the original email. Once a user adds it to their software
sources, the updates will be automatic and will come through the regular system
updates. We can also use the same process to push other source releases to
Ubuntu users outside of the traditional sixth month Ubuntu update cycle.

you can argue by the fact that this is no update, but rather bugfix of very
unstable package given the qt 4.6 conditions.

most buntu users have no idea about our side channels, so the default update
service is imho important one.

I'll see what I can do. Those are both strong points. Fortunately, the next
version of Ubuntu (due in October) will ship with the latest version of LyX.
I've also created the packages on Launchpad, so I think it's just a matter of
getting them incorporated.
