The second one: ! Undefined control sequence. I.20 \ProvidesLanguage(italian) The same happens if i choose 'english' as language: Missing \begin(document) 1.20 \ProvidesLanguage(e nglish) Notice the word e-nglish is broken. Such error does not arise when the default language is set. How to get over that problem? Thank you for your suggestions Pol -- Paolo Pumilia email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] o o o cstc o o o

I have short paragraphs and lots of descriptions and other things and it just makes everything look chaotic. I'm not sure about this one. There is the option in Layout-Document for "Skip or Indent" but I imagine you've already found this and it didn't satisy your needs. IIRC there is a .sty file you can include probably called indent.sty or something similar which will do most of what you want. Allan. (ARRae)

Changing Language
Hi, I have just tried to change language to a lyx doc that i have just written using default setup. It is a short text with title, author, abstract and standard headings. It cannot be converted into dvi, due to errors, both at the title section: The fisrt one is Missing \begin(document) 1.20 \ProvidesLanguage(i talian) Notice the word i-talian is broken.

Well, the good news is that there is some documentation in the Help->Customization explaining how to write support files for LyX. The bad news is that they are probably not gentle enough for LaTeX newbies :( Do you know a bit of LaTeX, or nothing at all? JMarc

Is there any info you can give to JONATHAN> make adding the ACM class and style a little easier? Thanks! Two possibilities: 1/ copy lib/layouts/article.layout to ~/.lyx/layouts/acm.layout, edit the first lines to read: #% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this # \DeclareLaTeXClass{article (ACM)} run Option->Reconfigure so that lyx finds the new class, and prey that acm format is not too different from article. If it works, you'll have a working acm for lyx, but the fonts (and other things) on screen will probably not match the paper output. If this does not work you'll have to: 2/ find someone who knows both LyX and LaTeX, and make him create this layout and contribute it to LyX. We could certainly use such a layout. This is of course not the easiest solution ;) More seriously, if you managed to learn enough of LaTeX to be _almost_ able to do it, I can offer to help you with problems you might encounter. But I certainly do not have the time (and motivation) for fully writing this stuff. JMarc

Saving Screen Font Configuration
Man the more I use Lyx the more I like it, but then the more quirks I find. I didn't find this information in any FAQ. I hope this hasn't been asked a thousand times over before. How do I save screen font config? Every time I change the zoom factor or the font names. It changes the current session but the settings are not saved. It reverts back to default on the next startup. Also, is there a way in Lyx to force indentation of all paragraphs, including ones immediately below section headings? I have short paragraphs and lots of descriptions and other things and it just makes everything look chaotic. Thakns.
Installation on M$ Windoze
Greetings LyX World. I have spent quite a long time producing a series of relatively simple docs in the wonderful LyX, but it is now time for somebody else to take over the project. The problem is the export of my work to the Windoze, or Mac, World. Is there a set of LyX & LaTeX binaries and all the supportiing stuff which will work on Windoze 9x? Alternatively, is anybody running LyX under one of the `Sit on Windoze' distributions, such as `Drop-in-Debian'? I'd be interested to hear about experiences. Re: Adding new classes, styles, etc
I had a problem like you myself I don't know with sort of requierments you have to follow, but some styles are available on http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/catalogue.html You may install one in your latex system and use a copy of the report.layout, renamed to the actual style. I works prety well down here. good luck []s rlopes Em seg, 08 nov 1999, you wrote: > JONATHAN> Hi, Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I got the > JONATHAN> ACM class, style, etc files and I'm wondering how to install > JONATHAN> them for use in LyX. Take a look at lyxrc.example and you'll see listed a number of options for screen fonts -- many of which aren't available in the popup. Either copy lyxrc.example to ~/.lyx/lyxrc or create a new ~/.lyx/lyxrc and add the appropriate lines. > Also, is there a way in Lyx to force indentation of all paragraphs, > including ones immediately below section headings?
