lyxserver and pybliographer

2001-03-19 Thread Juha Siltala

Hi all,

New to the list, so I really don't know if this has been discussed (took a
quick peek to the latest archive though).

I'm planning to write my masters thesis with lyx. I found a nice
bibliographic database app called pybliographer with a gtk frontend so
that I wouldn't have to learn too much about bibtex, as this app does
bibtex databases. Anybody know about this? It should be able to talk to
the lyxserver, so references could be made through point-and-click in
Pybliographic (the name of the front end). Didn't work though. If anyone
uses this, I'd be grateful for hints as to how to set up the lyxserver
(not much documentation about it - I have something like lyx 1.5) and the
bibtex file. I run lyx on a Mandrake 7.2 / intel box.

I love the tex output and don't want to use big and obtrusive "word
processors" like StarOffice and such, especially on a P133 :( so I have
gotten into the habit of using lyx, but haven't written anything this big
with it yet.

Also, Finnish hyphenation isn't quite perfect, but this is not really a
lyx matter :)

I believe my latex configuration is ok. I rudely edited language.dat,
uncommenting the relevant line. But the hyphenation just isn't perfect. It
does work, but makes mistakes and sometimes leaves words uncut, resulting
in long lines. This is only a minor nuisance that nicely keeps me awake
while proof-reading :) Finnish is not actually ispell's favourite language
either, being one that makes up cases and temporals by adding more and
more stuff to the ends of words instead of nice clean prefixes.

Emmanuel, the line in your rc file actually is different from mine, as I

Wish for References

2001-03-19 Thread Martin Adorni

Hello,

I know this isn't the right place and I don't know whether the suggested
feature has already been implemented (using 1.1.5fix1).

In my document I have a lot of subsubsections and sometimes paragraphs
and it is difficult to refer to those.

1) Would be nice if each numbered chapter, section (...) automatically
gets a label corresponding to the chapter / section title.
2) Would be nice if I could use the label-name as reference.

To give an example (The %marked% is supposed to be a label / reference):

1 Chapter one %sec:Chapter one%
1.1 Section one_point_one %sec:Section one_point_one%
1.1.1 Subsection one_point_one_point_one %sec:Subsection
one_point_one_point_one%
This is a subsubsection %sec:This is a subsubsection%

I can't refer to 'This is a subsubsection' because the depth for
numbering is limited (and that's o.k.)

Would be nice to write:
As can be seen in %ref_name:sec:This is a subsubsection% on page
%page:sec:This is a subsubsection%.
And to receive:
As can be seen in 'This is a subsubsection' on page 12.

The auto-labelling would be nice because my section-titles change from
time to time and I always have to update the section-titles used in the
text.

I hope you understand what I mean...

Martin

Bug. How to report a bug

2001-03-19 Thread Ralph Boland

I thought there was a mechanism for reporting bugs but I couldn't find
it at www.lyx.org.

Perhaps a description of how to report a bug should be easier to find
(or perhaps I am just to dumb to find it).

Anyway, here is my bug.
In lyx 1.1.5 I used a mapped a key so that when I typed it
the next chacter was a greek math symbol. For example I could type
"if 'greek-alpha' then
as "if 'special-key'a then". This doesn't work as well anymore now
that I am using 1.1.6-fix1.
If I try the same expression now then after I type "'special-key'a"
the cursor is placed before (not after where I think it should be) the
'greek-alpha' symbol. Thus before I can continue typing I must advance
the
cursor from before the 'alpha-symbol' to after the 'alpha-symbol'. I do
this kind of typing often.

Thanks, especially if this bug has already been reported.

Ralph Boland

lyx-code

2001-03-19 Thread Paolo Di Francesco

Hello,

I am writing a lot of pages with lyx. Not the first time, but I don't
remember how to change the lyx-code style in the whole document. The
problem is that I use lyx-code only in figures (as examples) and the
lines get out of pages (lines too long).
So what I would love is a smaller font for the lyx-code without
changing it manually. I remember that I can set parameters in the
preamble section, but I don't remember how.

Any suggestion? :)

Just editing language.dat is not sufficient -- you should also run
texhash after that. Or try texconfig as suggested, check the condition of
language.dat from there and then choose rehash or run texhash or whatever
the topic is. You can see what hyphenation tables are loaded by
viewing the Latex log file (from the Lyx Edit menu).

I also write in Finnish and after I got babel working, it makes
practically no wrong hyphenations. It still sometimes leaves words uncut,
but these are easier to find and correct.

No texhash in not enough, you must rebuilt the .fmt file
(the precompiled format which includes the kernel of macros).

 Or try texconfig as suggested,

That's it, texconfig allows to do it, but
initex latex.ltx
is the base command.
This produces latex.fmt which must replace the original (after rename !).

You distrib may allow to name differently each format and call it
with a name different from latex to avoid mixing things.
I must say I don't use it.

Thanks, especially if this bug has already been reported.

uncommenting the relevant line.

I must say I don't use it.

lyxserver and pybliographer

If anyone

Did you add \serverpipe " int your lyxrc
file ?

For example I have :

\serverpipe "/tmp/.lyx/lyxpipe"

I don't use it on /home//.lyx/lyxpipe because it does
not work on nfs shares.

Furthermore I recommend to alias your lyx command to delete previously
server pipe files berfore i.e. :

alias lyx 'rm /tmp/.lyx/lyxpipe.* ; /usr/X11/bin/lyx'

Emmanuel, the line in your rc file actually is different from mine, as I
remember it. I'll see to that too. Also, I didn't realise the pipe files
can be anywhere, like /tmp. I have /tmp cleaned up at every bootup, but of
course an alias is better if one has multiple lyx sessions a day.

Lyx Install Help...

2001-03-19 Thread Ray Brown

I am trying to install LyX 1.1.6fix1 and keep getting a dependancy error looking
for libforms.so.0.88. I cannot find this package anywhere. Installing on
RedHat7.0 (works fine??)

Anybody know where I can track down a stable version of libforms??

Cheers,

Ray

Just editing language.dat is not sufficient -- you should also run
texhash after that. Or try texconfig as suggested, check the condition of
language.dat from there and then choose rehash or run texhash or whatever
the topic is. You can see what hyphenation tables are loaded by
viewing the Latex log file (from the Lyx Edit menu).

I also write in Finnish and after I got babel working, it makes
practically no wrong hyphenations. It still sometimes leaves words uncut,
but these are easier to find and correct.

You could also consider to use tkbibtex
http://www.cat.csiro.au/cmst/staff/pic/tkbibtex.html
which is less sophisticated but also has the "push to lyx" feature. --works for me.

Also, in my german version of Pybliographic is a menu-point
"Einstellungen|Einstellungen" (Settings) where I had to change the value for
LyXpipe from "~.lyx/lyxpipe" to "~.lyxpipe" to get it work.
