Actually, it is already possible to do this in LyX 1.1.6.
Just select the text in lyx, press ctrl+c, and then you can paste it in the
external program. Formulae in the text will be converted to latex, but
other elements (labels, references etc.) will not.

Good tip. I just tried, it only works when the marking is done in text mode,
i.e. go before the formula, Shift-right will mark the whole math-inset as
one token, ctrl-c copies to the clipboard. It does not work for parts of the
formula, as marking inside a math inset uses a different paste
buffer. Of course, you can delete the irrelevant part in the recieving application.

twoside option ignored

2001-09-25 Thread Yann MORERE

Hello all lyx users,

i've got a strange thing on my lyx1.1.6fix3.
I'm using a modified book class. And when configuring a twoside document
in order to have great headings, lyx seems to ignore the option.

Proof : if i select oneside, and export in latex, the \documentclass
options has got oneside option, but if I try to select twoside option
under lyx and export the file into latex, the \documentclass options
does not have the twoside option.

So does it come from an error from myself, or is it a bug.

In fact, I had such things in previous version of lyx..

Math problem

2001-09-25 Thread Yann Collete

Hello,

I've inserted a formula in a 2X2 tabular. For example:

+---+-+
| A | A |
+---+-+
| A | mathform|
+---+-+

with mathform = (in math mode) \displaystyle{1/(1+x)}
If I do I view postscript, everything is fine.
I save the file, close it and reopen it.
Now, mathform = (in math mode) {1/(1+x)}.
The displaystyle command has disappeared.
I think it's a bug

Your sincerely,

2 questions about CV document class

2001-09-25 Thread Christian Naeger

Hi,

I just upgraded to lyx 1.1.6fix3. However, the rpm from

ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/lyx-1.1.6fix3-1.i386.rpm

did not include the CV class. I then installed the cv class seperately
according to:

http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/templates.html#cv

This works fine, but only installs version 1.4. I read in the Mailing list
archives that the cv version supposed to be included in lyx1.1.6fix3 is
version 1.5. Where can I get version 1.5? What is wrong with the above rpm?

---

How do you change the cv topic margin. I have now:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
  More text about this employment.
...

But I want:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
 More text about this employment.
...

Now my 2 questions: How can you make the margin wider? And how can you
change the font of 1999-2000 to s.th. smaller (throughout the document)?

I know that I can change the margin with Layout - Absatzformat (section
format?) - Titelbreite (title width) from M to MMM. But this only
changes the presentation inside of LyX. I does not affect the postscript
output.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chris

Figure captions and caption numbering

2001-09-25 Thread Steve Litt

Some books have the caption above the figure, some below, and some to the
side. Any suggestions on style for a technical book?

Also, all tech books have figure numbering contain the chapter number and
restart the figure number at 1 for each chapter (figure 10-1). But LyX labels
and references number figures sequentially throughout the book (figure 96).
Is there any way to get the chapter-figure numbering in LyX, while still
retaining the ability to move chapters around without needing to explicitly
tweak individual entries?

Thanks

If you write normally with pybliographic, Latex gives you some errors.

middle of the URL.

The HTML ouput is good:

JonKatz (2000).
Here Come the Weblogs.
Slashdot:

http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/herecometheweblogs.shtml.

But in the DVI, the PS, and the PDF I get a '%' like this ..article/h%erecome..

Mysterious..

The package multicol can do this. In the preamble put

See multicol.lyx, an example that comes with LyX.

A different solution (without the limitation of multicol [floats, footnotes])
is to put the following lines in the preamble:

  \usepackage{flushend}

PS: If anyone is intrested, the packages in sttools allows more flexibility
with twocolumn mode:
Using these packages is possible: to balance columns on the last page in

to insert some wide onecolumn material in any place of twocolumn page
and to do some other things.

The standard book class (and many others) should give you figure 10.1

It does! Steve dons duncecap

Re: Working with multiple documents in multiple export formats

Links should be possible as follows:
- links inside a single document (refs and page refs)
- links between two documents (refs and page refs)
I need the latter because the basic approach to generate my manual is to
work with separate LyX-files all coming together in one master-file.
For conversion latex-html I used to use latex2html but latex2html seems to
get into trouble when defining a preamble like \usepackage[ps2pdf
...]{hyperref}

It depends what do you mean by link?
Is it a link inside the document ? (e.g. a link to section 3)
or is it a link to a web page ?
In case of the latter, do you want to have the text of the link to be equal
to the URL (e.g. a href=http://www.lyx.org;http://www.lyx.org/a )
or not (e.g. a href=http://www.lyx.org;The LyX homepage/a )

Finally, which program do you use for latex-html conversion ?

Hello all lyx users,

i've got a strange thing on my lyx1.1.6fix3.
I'm using a modified book class. And when configuring a twoside document
in order to have great headings, lyx seems to ignore the option.

Proof : if i select oneside, and export in latex, the \documentclass
options has got oneside option, but if I try to select twoside option
under lyx and export the file into latex, the \documentclass options
does not have the twoside option.

So does it come from an error from myself, or is it a bug.

In fact, I had such things in previous version of lyx..

with mathform = (in math mode) \displaystyle{1/(1+x)}
If I do I view postscript, everything is fine.

Now, mathform = (in math mode) {1/(1+x)}.
The displaystyle command has disappeared.
I think it's a bug

2 questions about CV document class

2001-09-25 Thread Christian Naeger

Hi,

I just upgraded to lyx 1.1.6fix3. However, the rpm from

ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/lyx-1.1.6fix3-1.i386.rpm

did not include the CV class. I then installed the cv class seperately
according to:

http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/templates.html#cv

This works fine, but only installs version 1.4. I read in the Mailing list
archives that the cv version supposed to be included in lyx1.1.6fix3 is
version 1.5. Where can I get version 1.5? What is wrong with the above rpm?

---

How do you change the cv topic margin. I have now:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
  More text about this employment.
...

But I want:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
 More text about this employment.
...

Now my 2 questions: How can you make the margin wider? And how can you
change the font of 1999-2000 to s.th. smaller (throughout the document)?

I know that I can change the margin with Layout - Absatzformat (section
format?) - Titelbreite (title width) from M to MMM. But this only
changes the presentation inside of LyX. I does not affect the postscript
output.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chris

Jurabib and inproceedeings

2001-09-25 Thread Andrea Rossato

Hi there,
I have problem running LyX with jurabib.
The problem is that I can only insert articles or books as citation
references. If I insert inproceedings, inbook or something like this I
get an error message while running latex to export dvi, html or what's
so ever.
No problems with books and articles.
Any clue?

Thank you.

Hi!

I am new to lyx, and new to linux in general.

My version of lyx is 1.1.4fix3, which came with my SuSE distribution.
Should I update?

I have a ppc, so I might have to download the source and compile the
binary. While I haven't done this before, I'm pretty sure I could do
it now. However, I am more concerned at having to possible download
libraries and compile them as well.

Why do you call this a bug?
The latex author chose a style in which a float at the bottom of the page

If you don't like it, you can change this behavior by putting the following

\usepackage{stfloats}

The package multicol can do this. In the preamble put

See multicol.lyx, an example that comes with LyX.

A different solution (without the limitation of multicol [floats, footnotes])

  \usepackage{flushend}

Using these packages is possible: to balance columns on the last page in

Links should be possible as follows:
- links inside a single document (refs and page refs)
- links between two documents (refs and page refs)
I need the latter because the basic approach to generate my manual is to
work with separate LyX-files all coming together in one master-file.
For conversion latex-html I used to use latex2html but latex2html seems to
get into trouble when defining a preamble like \usepackage[ps2pdf

"twoside" option ignored

Hello all lyx users,

i've got a strange thing on my lyx1.1.6fix3.
I'm using a modified book class. And when configuring a twoside document
in order to have great headings, lyx seems to ignore the option.

Proof : if i select oneside, and export in latex, the "\documentclass"
options has got "oneside" option, but if I try to select "twoside" option
under lyx and export the file into latex, the "\documentclass" options
does not have the "twoside" option.

So does it come from an error from myself, or is it a bug.

In fact, I had such things in previous version of lyx..

2 questions about CV document class

2001-09-25 Thread Christian Naeger

Hi,

I just upgraded to lyx 1.1.6fix3. However, the rpm from

ftp://ftp.sylvan.com/pub/lyx/lyx-1.1.6fix3-1.i386.rpm

did not include the CV class. I then installed the cv class seperately
according to:

http://www.educat.hu-berlin.de/~voss/lyx/templates.html#cv

This works fine, but only installs version 1.4. I read in the Mailing list
archives that the cv version supposed to be included in lyx1.1.6fix3 is
version 1.5. Where can I get version 1.5? What is wrong with the above rpm?

---

How do you change the cv topic margin. I have now:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
  More text about this employment.
...

But I want:

...
Some Section

  1999-2000 Some employment
 More text about this employment.
...

Now my 2 questions: How can you make the margin wider? And how can you
change the font of "1999-2000" to s.th. smaller (throughout the document)?

I know that I can change the margin with Layout -> Absatzformat (section
format?) -> Titelbreite (title width) from M to MMM. But this only
changes the presentation inside of LyX. I does not affect the postscript
output.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Chris

Thanks. But I knew that. The problem is that what is the point of a pdf file
without all the hyperlinks? Worthless if you ask me.

I would greatly appreciate if you could look at this problem more closely.
My knowledge of LaTeX is nil.

Also note that when you uncomment the \SuspendPrologue at the bottom of the
demo-pre.tex file, hyperref works fine. However, all the preliminary pages
are not printed, and I think that strangely enough then it doesn't quite
follow the thesis.cls layout.

I had the problem of not finding that cv layout from the document dialog, it
was because I upgraded from a previous version and forgot to reconfigure my
LyX, he probably forgot also.

this is done by lyx when you choose pslatex from layout->document...

you can export with file->export->pdf (ps2pdf)

you can also try the ae-package

I think ghostview uses ps2pdf.
If i use eport->pdflatex i got errors because of some fonts:
Font \csname\endcsname=nntr8r not loadable: Metric (TFM) file not found.
\end{equation}
Did i have to use an other font for equations ?

I had the same problem.
It's quite fine, now, putting in the preamble

\usepackage{ae,aecompl}

bye bye,

ps2pdf convert a postscript-file to pdf with very bad result, especially
when using latex font (in some machine). Better use pdftex or pdflatex
instead of ps2pdf, but my latex export from lyx (1.1.6fix3) had an error
when it was compiled with pdflatex/pdftex... I don't know why??

Figure captions and caption numbering

2001-09-25 Thread Steve Litt

Some books have the caption above the figure, some below, and some to the
side. Any suggestions on style for a technical book?

Also, all tech books have figure numbering contain the chapter number and
restart the figure number at 1 for each chapter (figure 10-1). But LyX labels
and references number figures sequentially throughout the book (figure 96).
Is there any way to get the chapter-figure numbering in LyX, while still
retaining the ability to move chapters around without needing to explicitly
tweak individual entries?

Thanks

Steve

What errors?

How does the complete entry look in the .bib file ?

for figures always below, for tables in europe most always below
in america often above.

If you write normally with pybliographic, Latex gives you some errors.

I discovered, now, that if you correct the .bib in a text editor or in
"pybliograpic/native editing", then all is fine except one '%' that appears in the
middle of the URL.

Please, try this:

@Misc{JoK00,
  Author = {JonKatz},
  Title  = {Here {C}ome the {W}eblogs},
  HowPublished   = {Slashdot:
\url{http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/herecometheweblogs.shtml}},
  year   = 2000,
}

The HTML ouput is good:
JonKatz, 2000
JonKatz (2000).
Here Come the Weblogs.
Slashdot:

http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/herecometheweblogs.shtml.

But in the DVI, the PS, and the PDF I get a '%' like this "..article/h%erecome.."

Mysterious..

Any clue?

Thank you.

This is completly wrong!
For about the 1000th time, this is all documented in section 3.3.6 in
extended.lyx (actually, there is a third option for generating PDF which is
not mentioned there: use latex and then dvipdfm).

Because pdflatex can't use EPS figures.

Which book class are you using ?
The standard book class (and many others) should give you "figure 10.1"
numbering by default.

time for a version change?

2001-09-25 Thread Paul Tremblay

Thanks in advance.

It depends what do you mean by link?
Is it a link inside the document ? (e.g. a link to section 3)
or is it a link to a web page ?
In case of the latter, do you want to have the text of the link to be equal
to the URL (e.g. http://www.lyx.org;>http://www.lyx.org )
or not (e.g. http://www.lyx.org;>The LyX homepage )

Finally, which program do you use for latex->html conversion ?

Why do you call this a bug?
The latex author chose a style in which a float at the bottom of the page
appears below the footnotes. This is a valid style.
If you don't like it, you can change this behavior by putting the following
lines in the preamble:

\usepackage{stfloats}
\fnbelowfloat
