1.2.2 Update under Mandrake
Hello I would update my Lyx 1.2.1 under Mandrake 9.0. How i can to it ? Thanks jojo
Patch to 1.2.2 for including chapters from subdirectories.
Lyx support including/inputting a file from another directory, but this fail if the included file includes more files (such as figures) from its own directory. This because latex don't acutally change into the subdirectory. This is a problem when writing large documents (i.e. books), because having a subdirectory per chapter is so convenient. The problem is solved for latex by using the import.sty package. The problem is also solved for lyx, by using my patch that makes \subimport* available through the lyx GUI in addition to the existing \input. xfig insets for pdflatex, for lyx 1.2.x
Lyx supports a external inset for xfig figures. This fails with pdflatex as pdflatex don't understand the produced .eps files. Fortunately it don't have to, as fig2dev can be told to export .pdf instead of .eps You don't need to compile anything, all you need is a script and a new external_inset file available from: http://www.aitel.hist.no/~helgehaf/sw/figpdf.html This makes a new XFigPDF inset available. It is identical to the old xfig inset, except that it exports .pdf instead of .eps So it works with pdflatex but not with postscript/dvi export. You can change between one and the other by changing the inset type between xfig and xfigpdf I have tested it with lyx 1.2.0 and lyx 1.2.2, it probably works with 1.2.1 too. Helge Hafting

thanks, that works just fine! other question as I'm trying to change the standard bullet. It seems that the configuration mad via the Layout-Document window is not taken into account. I read about a similar problem on the mailing list: could this be the fact of the babel package? And, how can I redine the bullets (I wuold like different types for different levels of implication)? JP You might add a $\bullet$\ before the first author name. I can't imagine right now a simple solution to get the bullet next to the number, due to the automatic numbering feature of the biblography environment. Maybe natbib makes a provision for this.

You also have some too-long lines (hagakure.pdf pg. 44 has an example of this). I'd urge you to read a few basic texts on typography so as to at least cover the basics before asking for further help. I've a listing of them in my bibliography on my web site (ob. discl. I'm an Amazon Associate and may profit). I'd especially recommend Adrian Wilson's _The Design of Books_ and Bringhurst's _Elements of Typographic Style_ William -- William Adams, publishing specialist voice - 717-731-6707 | Fax - 717-731-6708 www.atlis.com

Automatic care for widows and orphans is discouraged in the serious typography, because impossible. It usually involves some stretching of in-between-lines space. Other means of the resolving issues (aka Knuth's algorithm) are not 100% successfull (compare with TeX which doesn't always break lines correctly), so some w/o remains. So, the author included the feature, but he preferred not to use it for this document. What's wrong with that?
