Strange problem in file-open dialog (1.5RC2, WinXP)

2007-07-01 Thread Persio Barros

Hi all,

I'm having a very strange problem with the file-open dialog in version
1.5RC2. The file list panel doesn't show all subfolders in the current
folder. For example, I have 13 subfolders in My Documents folder, but the
file-open dialog shows only 6. This happens with other folders as well, but
not all of them. In version 1.4.4 there is no such problem. Is anybody else
having this problem? Thanks.

Problem with german aspell (OT?)

2007-07-01 Thread Hellmut Weber

Hi,
aspell works mostly well in my german documents.

In some cases i use composed words (very frequent in german) like
'Trainingsreihe' composed from 'Training' and 'Reihe' (the 's' being the
sort of glue).
aspell seems to recognise this, but it considers the long word
'Trainingsreihe' an unknown word and proposes:

  'Trainings reihe'
  'Trainings-reihe'
as alternatives.

Can I set some configuration parameter to make aspell recognise my
composed word?

TIA

Hellmut

Otherwise RC2 works fine for me ;-))

they are showing in the LyX 1.4.4 file-open dialog but not in the 1.5.0RC2

 1. Put the vspace at the end of the paragraph containing
the math, rather than in the beginning of the next paragraph.
this just adds space before the math

you'll have to add a paragraph spacing distance to the
negative distance to make up for the extra paragraph.
this sounds like a good idea, thanks

Hi,
Yes, yes, YES! I've said it 1000 times -- the front matter is a one-off
section that does not need consistency enforced by styles. The front
matter
is more like a poster than like a book, and hence I always create the
whole

 thing with fine-tuned ERT.

if you are able to read and write some (elementary ;-) LaTeX you could
create an individual style fiel for your title page

*** redefining @maketitle ***

put it somewhere where (te)TeX can find it and include it in your LyX
preamble.

So you can avoid cluttering your LyX document with ERTs.

Really s-l-o-w configuration of rc2 on XP

2007-07-01 Thread Paul A. Rubin

Hi,

I just installed rc2 using LyXWin150svnSmall-3-17.exe (after
uninstalling rc1). Usually I have MikTeX set to nag me about
uninstalled packages, but this time I set it to simply skip them
automatically. I mention this for completeness, although I don't think
it's the source of the problem.

When the installer got around to running the configuration script, it
took easily ten times the normal time (normal time being about a minute
or so, this go around being upwards of 10 minutes). During that time,
fc-cache.exe (which I gather is a font caching utility that's part of
XFree) ran intermittently and hammered my CPU, although I'm not sure it
accounts for all the extra time spent.

Don't know if anyone else experienced this, or if anything can be done
about it, but I figured I'd pass it along.

one restricted to one column

restricted to one column:
if I load figure it shows 0/0 180/215 (note the difference to above)
without bounding box setting and read from file setting: figure too low
without bounding box setting, but with read from file setting: figure too high
with bounding box setting, but without read from file setting: figure too low
with bounding box setting and with read from file setting: figure placed ok

spanning the columns
without bounding box setting and read from file setting: figure too low and
shifted to the right
without bounding box setting, but with read from file setting: figure shifted
to the right
with bounding box setting, but without read from file setting: figure too high

so apparently I have to set both, bounding box setting and read from file

It looks like Scientific Workplace installs different fonts with the

local fonts in the LyX resources directory.

I think the fix is simple: Rename the fonts to LyX-cmex10 etc. and

Problem with german aspell (OT?)

2007-07-01 Thread Hellmut Weber

Hi,
aspell works mostly well in my german documents.

In some cases i use composed words (very frequent in german) like
'Trainingsreihe' composed from 'Training' and 'Reihe' (the 's' being the
sort of glue).
aspell seems to recognise this, but it considers the long word
'Trainingsreihe' an unknown word and proposes:

  'Trainings reihe'
  'Trainings-reihe'
as alternatives.

Can I set some configuration parameter to make aspell recognise my
composed word?

TIA

Hellmut

Otherwise RC2 works fine for me ;-))

I think the fix is simple: Rename the fonts to LyX-cmex10 etc. and

Good. Now the question is: can we do something about that from the LyX side?

References in Equations

2007-07-01 Thread Martin Rauscher

I just tried to insert a reference within an equation with LyX.
But LyX set it just BEFORE the equation.

I had to use ERT to reach my goal.

Bug, not implemented, or user error?

Problem with german aspell (OT?)

2007-07-01 Thread Hellmut Weber

Hi,
aspell works mostly well in my german documents.

In some cases i use composed words (very frequent in german) like
'Trainingsreihe' composed from 'Training' and 'Reihe' (the 's' being the
sort of glue).
aspell seems to recognise this, but it considers the long word
'Trainingsreihe' an unknown word and proposes:

  'Trainings reihe'
  'Trainings-reihe'
as alternatives.

Can I set some configuration parameter to make aspell recognise my
composed word?

TIA

Hellmut

Otherwise RC2 works fine for me ;-))

Bug. Works fine in 1.4.4.

Lyx Layout for Octavo?

Hi,
I currently writte a book that should be printed in A5 size. The
default 'boox' layout is not optimized for such a page size. I found a latex
package called 'Octavo' that seems to better fit. Have someone a Lyx layout
file for this package? Are there other lyx book layouts that are more adapted
to A5?
Thanks.

Re: Strange problem in file-open dialog (1.5RC2, WinXP)

2007-07-01 Thread Persio Barros
Confirmed this bug in another computer. I'm using the official installer
(LyX-1.5.0rc2-Installer.exe). A simple test: open the file-open dialog and
navigate to your MiKTeX texmf tree. Then go to the tex\latex directory. See
if the folders "a0poster" and "aastex" are showing in the folder list. Here
they are showing in the LyX 1.4.4 file-open dialog but not in the 1.5.0RC2
dialog.

this just adds space before the math

this sounds like a good idea, thanks

Re: Puitting other things on title page

2007-07-01 Thread Nathan Russell

I guess I'm somewhat confused. Even when I use notitlepage in the class
settings options, it still requires a title or it gives a latex error. With
a title, most of the stuff ends up pushed to the second page, and it's not
clear how to keep that from happening.

I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious.

if you are able to read and write some (elementary ;-) LaTeX you could
create an individual style fiel for your title page

*** redefining @maketitle ***

put it somewhere where (te)TeX can find it and include it in your LyX
preamble.

So you can avoid cluttering your LyX document with ERTs.

Actually that is what we will do in the next stable release for the 1.4.x
series (1.4.5). This version will be able to read files written with version
1.5.x.

We will release 1.5.0 and 1.4.5 at close times.

You can install that for Fedora (another option is hevea):
$ yum search latex2html hevea

Matched from:
hevea
HEVEA is a quite complete and fast LATEX to HTML translator.
HEVEA renders symbols by using the so-called HTML "entites", which
modern browsers display correctly most of the time.

latex2html.noarch2002.2.1-6 fedora

LATEX2HTML is a convertor written in Perl that converts LATEX
documents to HTML. This way e.g. scientific papers - primarily typeset
for printing - can be put on the Web for online viewing.

LATEX2HTML does also a good job in rapid web site deployment. These
pages are generated from a single LATEX source.

Can't confirm that here (rc2 from the "small" installer, XP Pro). I see
all the folders I should in tex\latex, and I see all 21 of the folders
under My Documents. The only things I can't see with the file open
dialog are a few system folders (such as the recycling bin) and,
perplexingly, C:\Program Files (even with hidden files turned on in the
dialog). I can navigate to and through C:\Program Files if I type in
the path, but the dialog won't show it to me under C:\. I assume this
is XFree being XFree. (And am I right that LyX has switched back to
XFree from Qt\WinFree?)

/Paul

did some experimenting.
My eps-figure had in the header
%%BoundingBox: -38 -34 265 146

I used twocolumn textstyle and tried out 2 different figures,
one spanning the columns
one restricted to one column

restricted to one column:
if I load figure it shows 0/0 180/215 (note the difference to above)
without bounding box setting and read from file setting: figure too low
without bounding box setting, but with read from file setting: figure too high
with bounding box setting, but without read from file setting: figure too low
with bounding box setting and with read from file setting: figure placed ok

spanning the columns
without bounding box setting and read from file setting: figure too low and
shifted to the right
without bounding box setting, but with read from file setting: figure shifted
to the right
with bounding box setting, but without read from file setting: figure too high
with bounding box setting and with read from file setting: figure placed ok

so apparently I have to set both, bounding box setting and read from file
setting.

The official installer does not install the BaKoMa in the Windows fonts
directory. The fonts are located in Resources\fonts.
