A little trouble with EPS figures

More newbie questions...

I'm trying LyX under Windows (my current install) and Linux (I'm about

Under Linux, I have two issues, apparently related:

When I open a document with EPS figures, I don see them in the LyX

to a readable format.

Also, when I try to preview in PDF, I get the same kind of message:
LyX: cannot convert file. No info to convert file from eps to pdf.
Define an converter in preferences.

... I'd love to do that, but how do I use the converter tab in the

Outline view as window instead of drawer?

2007-12-27 Thread Jens Noeckel

Hi,
in LyX 1.5.3 on Mac OS X, is there any way to customize the TOC
(outline) dialog as a regular window instead of a drawer?

I use Lyx in a window that is maximized to the screen, and when I try
to see the document outline it doesn't show up. The reason is that
the outline is pushed into a drawer that opens to the right of my
already maximized window, thus falling completely off the screen! If
there is no way to reaplace the drawer by a window, then at least the
application should resize the main window such that the drawer fits
on the screen. Then when the drawer is turned off, the original
dimensions of the main window should be restored. The way it works
now, it's extremely inconvenient to access the TOC on a small screen.

Hi Sandor,

Have you checked to make sure the document margins are set correctly in
the LyX source, and also (at least with DVI output) in the viewer? I do
not think there would be an issue with the PDF viewer, but I suppose
that might depend on which viewer you used.

If the margins appear to be set correctly, can you post a small example
showing the problem? I will check it with MiKTeX 2.6 to make sure the
problem does not lie with the MiKTeX upgrade.

Well, only part of it. Now the eps graphics appear correctly in the LyX

Under Linux, I have two issues, apparently related:

When I open a document with EPS figures, I don see them in the LyX
window. Instead I get a box with the figure name and "error converting
to a readable format".

Also, when I try to preview in PDF, I get the same kind of message:
"LyX: cannot convert file. No info to convert file from eps to pdf.
Define an converter in preferences."

... I'd love to do that, but how do I use the "converter" tab in the
preferences? In particular, the "add" button is grayed, and don't know
how to fill the command line.

TIA for your help,

Daniel CLEMENT

Do you have both Ghostscript and ImageMagick installed on the Linux box?

Unfortunately not. We usually tag the earliest release where the bug occured
(which would be 1.5.3 in this case). If the bug doesn't occur in 1.6.0svn (or
has been fixed there), we use the keyword "fixedintrunk".

I don't know. I will check out an earlier version and try. However the
bug is present in the current trunk (I tagged it 1.6svn, is there a
possibility to tag for several releases in bugzilla?)

To add a new converter, alter one of the existing converters. This will
un-grey the add button, without altering the original converter.

As Paul says, adding the ImageMagick package will probably clear up the
problem without any intervention.

Re: wrong bottom margin

2007-12-27 Thread Sandor Szabo

Hi,

I attach the Lyx file, hopefully not too long.
In this file I used the default settings.
I whish you a successful testing.
Thanks,
Sandor

The only problem is the missing page-bottom on dvi,ps,pdf, which means
the last one or two lines are disappearing on the bottom of every page.
In case of amsarticle everything is ok. I tried to set the same
layout, etc properties but didn't help.

Hopefully someone (maybe Paul) could help me.

Thanks, now I was able to create an entry
EPS -> PDF (pstopdf)
(same as in my Windows install).
But what should be the command line? The one under Windows, which is
"epstopdf --outfile=$$o $$i", does not work.

Well, only part of it. Now the eps graphics appear correctly in the LyX
window, but when I try to preview-pdf
- either my "hand-made" converter above leads to an error,
- or (before adding it) I do see the eps images in pdf, but shrinked to
a tiny size in the lower right corner of their normal place.

I don't know what so many things seem to be missing from my LyX setup
under Linux. I added LyX with the "add-remove" applet. Perhaps using the
package manager would have done better?
