Redefinition of paragraphs styles

Hi! I'm using the book document style and I'm using the modules Theorems (AMS),
Theorems (AMS extended) and Theorems (By Chapter). I modified theorems-ams.inc
to be able to redefine some environments, such as definitions and examples, to
be italic. Anyway, I see that remarks are italic in LyX, whereas definitions and
examples are italic only when the pdf is created. Is there any way to change the
style of those paragraphs even in the LyX interface? This would make my document
clearer during editing.

Hi,

First insert a label on section 2 (Insert-Label...). You will be 
proposed a label name, you may change it if you want. That's the target 
of the link.


Then, at the place you want to insert the link, insert a cross reference 
(Insert-Cross-Reference...) you select the label created before for 
section 2 and press OK.


You can use it in LyX to jump to section 2 by right-click and choosing 
Go to Label in the context menu or by left-clicking and pressing the 
Go to Label button in the window that opens.


When generating a pdf (pdfLaTeX), you'll see the coloured section number 
and it will be a link to section 2. So you'd better insert the cross 
reference in a sentence like See section [Ref: sec:label]. where the 
bracket part is the cross reference inset. This inset is replaced by the 
number 2 in the pdf. You can choose more options in the  cross-reference 
window with the Format drop-down menu.


Have a look at section 6.1 of the user manual for a better explanation.

If you enter default to Preferences  Output  LaTeX  TeX Encoding (instead 
of, f. ex., T1), the \fontenc line is ommitted.

Of course, this is not ideal, since it applies to all documents.

In LyX 2.0, fontenc will not be loaded if XeTeX support is enabled.

It took me a while since I don't really know LaTeX, and hit the 
limitation of most search engines (they skip \ and @ characters, so you 
cannot do any search on e.g. \...@title), but I could get to a solution...


replace the line
\lfoot{\begin{minipage}{4cm} \scriptsize \...@title \end{minipage}}

by this ugly thing

\let\Oldtitle\title
\renewcommand{\title}[1]{\lfoot{\begin{minipage}{4cm} \scriptsize 
{#1}\end{minipage}}\Oldtitle{#1}}


There is probably a better way to do it, but I git it working, so I'll 
let other people show the proper way ;-)

characters typed in into their latex equivalents (e.g., ó becomes {\'o}).

The new 2.3 version (in debian squeeze already) has updated routines to search 
google scholar and directly import the bibtex reference.

Double language layout

Hi everybody,
I'm writing my thesis and I was wondering whether it is possible to use Lyx for 
a double language document. What I'd like to do is having a double column 
layout with the text written in one language on the left and another one on the 
right side. The text should be aligned: chapters, sections, etc. should start 
at the same point in the page, and the only things to be shared between the two 
languages would be tables, figures and equations.
Does anyone of you know how to do this?

What you need is to include a Font specification in the Style 
declaration. There will be one in Theorem that sets the font to italic.


As Guenter said, see chapter 5 of the Customization manual for details. 
(There's a section on fonts.)


By the way, instead of modifying theorems-ams.inc directly, you might 
want to put your changes into a separate module that you can include 
when you want them. E.g., if you do something like:

Style Definition
Font
Shape Italic
EndFont
Preamble
% your stuff here
EndPreamble
End
then this will override the older stuff, not completely redeclare 
Definition. (If you want to do that, then you do NoStyle Definition, 
then redeclare it.) So if you include this module AFTER 
theorems-ams.inc, then you get the same effect as modifying 
theorems-ams.inc without losing the original.

Add tone to the custom class options, under DocumentSettingsDocument 
Class. It will then be passed to tipa (and to all other packages, though 
conflict in this case is unlikely).

I don't think it would be possible to do this in LyX natively, i.e., 
without a LOT of ERT. There must be some LaTeX packages that do this 
kind of thing, but I don't know of them, and you might be better off 
just doing the whole thing in LaTeX.

to say LaTex to use a column as a page, then it'd be easy to tell:

I don't think it would be possible to do this in LyX natively, i.e.,

What you need is to include a Font specification in the Style 
declaration. There will be one in Theorem that sets the font to italic.


As Guenter said, see chapter 5 of the Customization manual for details. 
(There's a section on fonts.)


By the way, instead of modifying theorems-ams.inc directly, you might 
want to put your changes into a separate module that you can include 
when you want them. E.g., if you do something like:

Style Definition
Font
Shape Italic
EndFont
Preamble
% your stuff here
EndPreamble
End
then this will override the older stuff, not completely redeclare 
Definition. (If you want to do that, then you do NoStyle Definition, 
then redeclare it.) So if you include this module AFTER 
theorems-ams.inc, then you get the same effect as modifying 
theorems-ams.inc without losing the original.

It seems it's a problem of keeping the columns independent. If it is possible 
to say LaTex to use a column as a page, then it'd be easy to tell:

In the preamble:

\usepackage[italian,british]{babel}


In the manuscript:

bla bla bla ...


\selectlanguage{british}

Redefinition of paragraphs styles

Hi! I'm using the book document style and I'm using the modules Theorems (AMS),
Theorems (AMS extended) and Theorems (By Chapter). I modified theorems-ams.inc
to be able to redefine some environments, such as definitions and examples, to
be italic. Anyway, I see that remarks are italic in LyX, whereas definitions and
examples are italic only when the pdf is created. Is there any way to change the
style of those paragraphs even in the LyX interface? This would make my document
clearer during editing.

Hi,

First insert a label on section 2 (Insert->Label...). You will be 
proposed a label name, you may change it if you want. That's the target 
of the link.


Then, at the place you want to insert the link, insert a cross reference 
(Insert->Cross-Reference...) you select the label created before for 
section 2 and press "OK".


You can use it in LyX to jump to section 2 by right-click and choosing 
"Go to Label" in the context menu or by left-clicking and pressing the 
"Go to Label" button in the window that opens.


When generating a pdf (pdfLaTeX), you'll see the coloured section number 
and it will be a link to section 2. So you'd better insert the cross 
reference in a sentence like "See section [Ref: sec:label]." where the 
bracket part is the cross reference inset. This inset is replaced by the 
number 2 in the pdf. You can choose more options in the  cross-reference 
window with the "Format" drop-down menu.


Have a look at section 6.1 of the user manual for a better explanation.

If you enter "default" to Preferences > Output > LaTeX > TeX Encoding (instead 
of, f. ex., "T1"), the \fontenc line is ommitted.

Of course, this is not ideal, since it applies to all documents.

In LyX 2.0, fontenc will not be loaded if XeTeX support is enabled.

If you do not want floating, do not use floats.
(inserting captions outside floats is possible with the nonfloat package)

For me, non-escaped ampersand in url fields work if the bibtex style uses the 
url package.

Hi,

It took me a while since I don't really know LaTeX, and hit the 
limitation of most search engines (they skip \ and @ characters, so you 
cannot do any search on e.g. "\...@title"), but I could get to a solution...


replace the line
\lfoot{\begin{minipage}{4cm} \scriptsize \...@title \end{minipage}}

by this ugly thing

\let\Oldtitle\title
\renewcommand{\title}[1]{\lfoot{\begin{minipage}{4cm} \scriptsize 
{#1}\end{minipage}}\Oldtitle{#1}}


There is probably a better way to do it, but I git it working, so I'll 
let other people show the proper way ;-)

characters typed in into their latex equivalents (e.g., ó becomes {\'o}).

The new 2.3 version (in debian squeeze already) has updated routines to search 
google scholar and directly import the bibtex reference.
