Hi all,

Is there any fax template available for LyX? I searched the web but
couldn't find anything. I must admit I am quite new to LyX and not
familiar yet with the underlying structure of LaTeX and TeX.

This might be the problem. It seems that your LaTeX installation uses some
 older package versions.

As it is urgent, I recommend to export your document to latex and then ask
LateX colleagues if they can help your making it compilable.

I tried to change the font of all my child documents which I included in

All my child document could generate proper pdf document individually.

[Wizards can fix TFM files using TFtoPL/PLtoTF.]

So your LaTeX installation misses the LGR fonts. The strange thing is that
 this
font are Greek fonts. But this is normally no problem: If you would work on
Windows and use MiKTeX as LaTeX-distribution, you would open an Internet
connection, view your file as PDF and MiKTeX will automatically install all
packages and fonts used by your document.
As you seem to have a special LaTeX-distribution I cannot help your here.

Automatic scrolling upon entering math mode inside a caption

2010-09-27 Thread Will
Whenever I enter math mode within the caption of a figure float, LyX
automatically scrolls down so that the formula is on the top line of the
screen. I find this kind of annoying because I usually have the caption
below the figure and like to be able to look at the figure while I am typing
the caption (which I can do because the figure is scrolled off the top of
the screen). Is there any way to disable this scrolling? Is it a bug?

I'm using LyX 1.6.6.1 on Windows XP.

Re: Automatic scrolling upon entering math mode inside a caption

2010-09-27 Thread Will
Hmm, I didn't realize this was important before, but it seems I only have
this problem when I have View Source open on the bottom of the window. It
always puts the cursor at the top of the window even when there is plenty of
room for the math toolbar and the view source box. I don't if there's any
way to stop this behavior, but at least I can close or move the view source
window when I need to write figure captions.

I cannot reproduce this behavior with LyX 1.6.7 on Windows. The only thing
that happens is that the math toolbar pops up. This needs of course some
space so that the text is shifted above by the height of the math toolbars.

Asterisk as Equation Label

2010-09-27 Thread Bruce Pourciau
This must be easy to do, but how can you label a displayed equation,
not with a number, but with just an asterisk or star in parentheses? I
don't need to be referring to my equations in general, but I do need
to refer to one particular equation.

This is because the source window shows you with the default settings
only the content of the current paragraph. So depending on the amount
your have already in your caption, it needs more space to display the
new math code.

This might be the problem. It seems that your LaTeX installation uses some
 older package versions.

As it is urgent, I recommend to export your document to latex and then ask
LateX colleagues if they can help your making it compilable.

So your LaTeX installation misses the LGR fonts. The strange thing is that

1) ./configure

Automatic scrolling upon entering math mode inside a caption

2010-09-27 Thread Will
Whenever I enter math mode within the caption of a figure float, LyX
automatically scrolls down so that the formula is on the top line of the
screen. I find this kind of annoying because I usually have the caption
below the figure and like to be able to look at the figure while I am typing
the caption (which I can do because the figure is scrolled off the top of
the screen). Is there any way to disable this scrolling? Is it a bug?

I'm using LyX 1.6.6.1 on Windows XP.

This is one cute, little gadget. I have just installed the free to use
VMware Player and was surprised by how smooth the installation went

It works! THanks a lot.

Devels: would it possible to improve the INSTALL file so that it
contains an example of qt dir path? FOr example,
[..]
1) ./configure
configures LyX according to your system.
   You may have to set
   --with-qt4-dir=
if the environment variable QTDIR is not set (for exmaple,
'--with-qt4-dir=/usr/share/qt4/').
See Note below if ./configure script is not present.

It gives the same error as in the original post, for both alpha5 and

Automatic scrolling upon entering math mode inside a caption

2010-09-27 Thread Will
Whenever I enter math mode within the caption of a figure float, LyX
automatically scrolls down so that the formula is on the top line of the
screen. I find this kind of annoying because I usually have the caption
below the figure and like to be able to look at the figure while I am typing
the caption (which I can do because the figure is scrolled off the top of
the screen). Is there any way to disable this scrolling? Is it a bug?

I'm using LyX 1.6.6.1 on Windows XP.

It would be convenient indeed, but there's no .deb and I don't feel
like messing with the sources.

The libqt4-dev was installed prior to ./configure. Regards

these are the interesting lines
g++ -o conftest -g -O2   -Wextra -Wall conftest.cpp-lz  -lX11  -lQtCore
-lQtGui >&5
conftest.cpp:28:22: error: qglobal.h: No such file or directory

Whenever I enter math mode within the caption of a figure float, LyX

I cannot reproduce this behavior with LyX 1.6.7 on Windows. The only
thing that happens is that the math toolbar pops up. This needs of
course some space so that the text is shifted above by the height of the
math toolbars.

Both are part of libqt4-dev.
...
/usr/include/qt4/Qt/qglobal.h
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qglobal.h

/usr/include/qt4/Qt/qstring.h
/usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qstring.h

Re: Automatic scrolling upon entering math mode inside a caption

2010-09-27 Thread Will
Hmm, I didn't realize this was important before, but it seems I only have
this problem when I have "View Source" open on the bottom of the window. It
always puts the cursor at the top of the window even when there is plenty of
room for the math toolbar and the view source box. I don't if there's any
way to stop this behavior, but at least I can close or move the view source
window when I need to write figure captions.

This is described in LyX's Math manual in sec. 19.4 "User-defined
Numbering".
