Re: Proofs ending with mathematical formulas
For multiline formulae, you need to end it with \tag*{\qedhere}. To enter this in LyX, you don't need to specify the braces, just enter \tag* and press space, then in the box that appears type \qedhere. This also seems to work for single-line formulae, so what I do is use a math macro for this and use that for all formulae at the end of proofs. This has the benefit that you can put something prettier in the LyX box for display while you're editing your document (e.g. try pasting in \text{ }\text{ }\text{ }\text{ }\square without the quotes). By the way, this is a bug in AMS-LaTeX that they know about, but thought couldn't be fixed. It can be fixed since the ntheorem package manages it (but has its own bugs, so isn't a good replacement sadly), which I've told the relevant person in AMS about. Now, I have some problems doing so with lyx, I tried adding this in the preamble, either with a relative path or an absolute one, but unfortunately it does unfortunately not work, I get an error message... Latex Error: File newclass.sty not found And below the error message, a quite cryptic: cannot \read from terminal in nonstop mode... Do you see what I do wrong? I checked the doc but did not find mention on how to use local packages, is there something? Do you see how I can solve the problem? Why not just put the package somewhere LaTeX can find it? It should work with an absolute path. Richard

I meant 90 seconds, not 90 minutes, sorry... MikTeX (2.8) is up to date and not running in the background, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I have also noticed that if I make any changes to the preferences LyX locks for a couple of minutes. Tried suspending virus software, but that didn't help, either. Re: Proofs ending with mathematical formulas
Thank you, Jim. It seems to be working fine now. Gustavo. 2011/1/15 Jim Oldfield jim_...@yahoo.co.uk For multiline formulae, you need to end it with \tag*{\qedhere}. She seemed interested, but I doubt they have the resources to fix it anytime soon. When the proof ends with a single-line formula, I manually put a \qedhere at the end of the formula for the QED symbol to appear in the right place. If there is any better way to do this, let me know. Regards, Gustavo.
