Change between latex distributions

2011-02-08 Thread Max Funk
Hallo,

I installed the new lyx 1.6.9 and texlive 2010 in cygwin.

However, lyx uses always the old tetex-distribution.contained in cygwin.

Is there a possibility to change between distributions?

AFAIK, there must be a setting path to latex.exe or similar... But I
absolutely didn't find it.

how to stop annoying screen jumps?

2011-02-08 Thread John

Hello:
I use Lyx 1.6.5 and Ubuntu 10.04. Lyx works fine, but if I am editing,
then click the pdf icon to view the pdf output, then click back on the
Lyx text to make a change, all too often the screen wildly jumps to some
other part of the document. For example, I might be editing the end of
the document, and after returning to Lyx and clicking on a sentence the
screen will jump to the first page, or somewhere else. It seems to
happen about 25% of the time. Its very annoying, as I have to scroll
around to re-find the sentence I want to edit. Sometimes the screen
even jumps again when I try to put the cursor on my desired sentence. I
don't know if it is related to having floating picture frames on some of
my pages. Maybe the problem would not occur if I had only plain text.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? My document is about
60 pages long.

Thanks, John.

Re: how to stop annoying screen jumps?

2011-02-08 Thread Ernesto Posse
I have noticed a similar problem when editing tables, specially tables
that contain formulas.

Whenever I have a table with many rows and math formulas
inside, and only part of the table is visible in the writing area, if
the cursor is outside the table, and I click inside a math formula,
the focus changes, and LyX rearranges the view so that the row where I
clicked goes to (near) the top of the writing area (sometimes to the
bottom). Actually this happens also when I click in some cell without
a math formula, but not always for some reason. I find this extremely
annoying, as I have to do this sort of editing very often so I get the
text bouncing around.

So my questions are:
1) is this a bug, or by design?
2) if by design, what is the reason for this behaviour?
3) Is there anyway to make LyX stop doing this?

(I'm using lyx 1.6.7 on Ubuntu 10.10)

Thanks.

SV: Including SAS output in latex

2011-02-08 Thread Ingar Pareliussen
Hi

. If I use sas.sty generated by SAS, where do I put it so Lyx will recognize
it? I put in a folder and Refreshed FCNB on MikTex as per the help manual, but
Lyx still couldn't find it.

This file needs to be recognised by LaTeX and should go somewhere MikTeX could
find it. I guess this works?

The next you have top tell lyx that it needs to use it. This is done in the
LaTeX preamble in Document-settings. just add on these two lines::
\usepackage{sas}
\usepackage{longtable}

This will give you the sas specific commands that are used by sas.( And the
longtableenvironment, may not be necessary if you import the file).

Even if Lyx did find it, I think there would still be some issues because of
the code in the latex file.
 get a million compilation errors like misplaced \noalign with any of the
 four latex files that can be
generated by SAS. I have attached tablesonly.tex
because I think this is the simplest file and also simple.tex.

Most of the errors should go away if you add the \usepackage{longtable}.

However the latex you send was also wrong. it should look something like this:

\begin{longtable}{|c|c|c|c|}
\hline
  1  1 1 \\
\hline
  1 1  1 \\
\hline
   1 1 \\
\hline
\end{longtable}

You must move the \begin{longtable} to the start of the file.

So I guess you have to make sas produce correct latex to make it work, or
massage it in an editor. Then it should be easy to import it as a latex file in
lyx. Or you could copy it into a ERT-box.

I hope this helps.

If you look in your cls file, you will see that it does define a
\singlespacing command. When you try to change to single spacing, LyX
includes setspace.sty, which I think also defines a command by that
name. The solution, for our purposes, is probably to change the command
in the class file to something else, and then search and replace the
other occurrences.

LyX 2.0beta4 windows installer (unofficial) is there!

In case anyone is interested, I've created windows 'alternate'
installer of 2.0 beta4 (actually, it is slightly newer r37563, because
of the grave regression fixed there). It can be installed simultaneously
with previous betas, but some settings seem to be cleared while
'switching' between versions. Look there:

ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/contrib/unofficial/

WARNING: as I'm not a LyX developer, I'm not really sure about the
quality of this installer. It worked for me, though, and finally the
frequent crashes of beta3 are now gone.

I've created it because the official maintainer (Uwe Stöhr) is
currently offline, so there will be no official windows installers for
the time being.

I'm not subscribed there, so please cc me at ms (at) msys.info.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Is that the line that says \newcommand{\singlespacing}{1}? So I could
just replace all \singlespacing with something like \snglspcing?

If so, I'm not sure if that will address what I'm ultimately trying to do.
 My root problem is that when I insert a float figure, lyx's
\inlcudegraphics command has a caption that has the figure number and
caption on separate lines. Where the thesis.cls defines a function \Figure
that supposedly does it all on one line (per the guidelines). However, when
I insert ERT and call the classes function I get an error LaTeX Error:

Super cool cross-platform toolkit. Runs on several version of Unix, even
in parallel, with multiple users logged in, on Fridays. Also available
on Mac using darwin ports, and probably even on properly configured
Windows machines (i.e. with X server running)

Comes with a feature rich gui designer called 'fdesign' and incredible

 For example, I might be editing the end of the document,
 and after returning to Lyx and clicking on a sentence the screen will jump
 to the first page, or somewhere else.  It seems to happen about 25% of the
 time.  Its very annoying, as I have to scroll around to re-find the sentence
 I want to edit.  Sometimes the screen even jumps again when I try to put the
 cursor on my desired sentence.  I don't know if it is related to having
 floating picture frames on some of my pages.  Maybe the problem would not
 occur if I had only plain text.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there
 a fix? My document is about 60 pages long.
 Thanks, John.

\usepackage{sas}
\usepackage{longtable}

\begin{longtable}{|c|c|c|c|}
\hline
  1  1 1 \\
\hline
  1 1  1 \\
\hline
   1 1 \\
\hline
\end{longtable}

LyX 2.0beta4 windows installer (unofficial) is there!

 ==

Comes with a feature rich gui designer called 'fdesign' and incredible

You have to add that path to Tools->Preferences->Paths->PATH prefix,
such that it appears before /usr/bin. Pay attention to use posix paths,
i.e., use /cygdrive/c/whatever instead of C:/whatever, as the colon is
the path separator in cygwin.

library in the future?

xforms was being discussed lately.

Interesting. Could you tell a bit more about xforms ?

ERROR: \singlespacing already defined when using paragraph settings

2011-02-08 Thread Danny Parker
I'm getting the following error when trying to switch to single spacing in
my document.

LaTeX Error: Command \singlespacing already defined.

>From reading up on similar errors I think it may be a conflict between
packages but I'm not experienced enough to know which ones cause the
conflict and which ones can be deleted. My document class is the thesis
class for my university which I'm including and it looks like it installs
the following packages:

\documentclass[oneside,english]{msuthesis}

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

\usepackage[latin9]{inputenc}

\usepackage{units}

\usepackage{textcomp}

\usepackage{graphicx}

\usepackage{setspace}

\usepackage{nomencl}

Can anyone point me in the right direction since Google wasn't any help?
 Thanks in advance.

2011-02-08 Thread Michal Skrzypek
> Pre-release of LyX version 2.0.0 (beta 4)

Michał Skrzypek

Re: ERROR: \singlespacing already defined when using paragraph settings

2011-02-08 Thread Danny Parker
Thanks a lot for the help.

Is that the line that says "\newcommand{\singlespacing}{1}"? So I could
just replace all \singlespacing with something like \snglspcing?

If so, I'm not sure if that will address what I'm ultimately trying to do.
 My root problem is that when I insert a float figure, lyx's
\inlcudegraphics command has a caption that has the figure number and
caption on separate lines. Where the thesis.cls defines a function \Figure
that supposedly does it all on one line (per the guidelines). However, when
I insert ERT and call the classes function I get an error "LaTeX Error:
Unknown graphics extension: .eps." which I don't know what to do with. Any
suggestions there?

Danny

big part of this issue is that there is no lyx maintainer in ubuntu so the
result is orphaned lyx package using wrong dependencies.
poor ubuntu users ;)

Yes, but then you have to change all the \singlespacing commands in the
class file to \snglspcing.

I'm less sure about that one, as I don't use graphics much in my own
work. Try re-posting that particular problem. Someone else will know.

Super cool cross-platform toolkit. Runs on several version of Unix, even
in parallel, with multiple users logged in, on Fridays. Also available
on Mac using darwin ports, and probably even on properly configured
Windows machines (i.e. with X server running)

Comes with a feature rich gui designer called 'fdesign' and incredible
unicode support. Lightweight by design, robust, mature, and easily
maintainable by core LyX contributors.

Oh, and it uses git: git clone git://git.savannah.nongnu.org/xforms.git
