It's one of the keys one can canfigure (e.g. Win key) which acts as modifier so that pressing e.g. Win key + '-' would add some Tex accent to the letter. I used it in the past in LyX in order to build Sanskrit diacritics in the book I was working on. It's even described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compose_key Sincerely, Gour -- As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. I have to reset my input module to XIM otherwise I can't type Cherokee properly every upgrade.
lyx doesn't find any .cls files
Hello, I have used lyx on other distos with no problems, but I am having problems getting lyx configured on ArchLinux. Name : lyx Version: 2.0.1-2 Name : texlive-core (texlive-most) Version: 2011.23170-1 I followed the instructions on "http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/LaTeXErrors#file-not-found; $ kpsewhich article.cls /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/article.cls I ran reconfigure from the tools menu, restarted and opened ".../examples/splash.lyx". But lyx still fails to configure properly. This is redacted output:
LyX: reconfiguring user directory checking for a Latex2e program... +checking for "latex"... yes checking for a DVI postprocessing program... +checking for "pplatex"... no checking for pLaTeX, the Japanese LaTeX... +checking for "platex"... yes kpathsea: Running mktexfmt platex.fmt Latex not usable (not LaTeX2e) [...] done checking LaTeX configuration... default values +checking list of textclasses... done LyX: Done! Warning: Document class not available The selected document class article requires external files that are not available. The document class can still be used, but the document cannot be compiled until the following prerequisites are installed: article.cls See section 3.1.2.2 (Class Availability) of the User's Guide for more information.
Thank you. -- Regards, Brian Winfrey

I've never heard of that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compose_key The term is quite old and quite known in X Window System world. However every Pole using polish programmer keyboard in Windows (like me) have right alt in function of Compose Key - well known as AltGr. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AltGr_key There was a time when Microsoft did not support that in Polish version of the system, then many programmers created overlay software to support that in ancient Windows versions :-) -- Manveru jabber: manv...@manveru.pl gg: 1624001 http://www.manveru.pl

LyX thinks you do not have LaTeX installed. I know we have seen this before, but I do not remember what the problem was. Try having a look at the config.log file and see why LyX is choking. You can also post it here. Perhaps someone else will remember Richard
