The problem is a weakness in LyX display mechanism: text is drawn 
several characters at a time, while metrics (measurement of size) is 
done character-per-character. On windows and linux, it is not a problem, 
but on a Mac, where fonts use ligatures, it means that the cursor does 
not appear where it should.


To alleviate that, by default mac builds draws the screen char-by-char 
too. It works, but it is quite slow...

You can see what the effect is by adding
\force_paint_single_char 0
in the preferences file.

Unfortunately, this situation will not improve in version 2.1.

There is a branch that tackles this problem, but it is not ready yet.

 Please type
 gcc --version.
 LyX needs gcc 4.X. If your comiler is gcc 3.X, ./configure may end with
 failure.
 
 You  need another packages such as Qt, get text.
 
 Before typing './configure', please read README and INSTALL carefully.
 And please type
 ./configure --help
 
 And please tell us your computers architecture. (i386 or x86_64 ?)

2- Is it recommendable to install texlive2013 first before I try to install 
lyx?
(I have 2012 and tried to install 2013)

Looking at the .pdf, I'm quite envious. After working on this for a couple
of days, I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that MikTeX/LyX doesn't
support Japanese in an English document.

Lyx 2.0.6: Document settings can't be changed (OK greyed out)

I am running LyX 2.0.6 on Windows 7 SP1. I'm having an issue with
changing any document settings of any file, the buttons *OK *and
*Apply *just remain greyed out. (Someone posted the same issue running
2.0.7dev on ubunto on stackexchange here

Any help is appreciated.

I did not know about it before.

I tried to convert an existing document to use branches.

I find branches very attractive but I have a problem.

In my document I have enumerate lists. One item has statements in two

languages. After converting the lines to branches I get error at compilation:

! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.

What can cause this error?

I attach a working and a converted non-working example file

(no-branches-OK.lyx, branch-not-working.lyx).

I don't think so. If you want to diminish the hassle, in Doc Settings
use Fonts  Use non-TeX fonts, then select an OpenType font that has
glyphs for Japanese and then your document should work nicely. Compile
with XeTeX or similar.

want to have a figure float within the boxfloat. If I however try to do 
this, I get the error:

LaTeX error: No counter 'subboxfloat' defined.

How can I make sure he understand sub-boxes/sub-figures inside a boxfloat?

Looking at the .pdf, I'm quite envious. After working on this for a couple
of days, I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that MikTeX/LyX doesn't
support Japanese in an English document.

Lyx 2.0.6: Document settings can't be changed (OK greyed out)

I am running LyX 2.0.6 on Windows 7 SP1. I'm having an issue with
changing any document settings of any file, the buttons *OK *and
*Apply *just remain greyed out. (Someone posted the same issue running
2.0.7dev on ubunto on stackexchange here

I did not know about it before.

I tried to convert an existing document to use branches.

I find branches very attractive but I have a problem.

In my document I have enumerate lists. One item has statements in two

languages. After converting the lines to branches I get error at compilation:

! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.

What can cause this error?

I attach a working and a converted non-working example file

(no-branches-OK.lyx, branch-not-working.lyx).

I don't think so. If you want to diminish the hassle, in Doc Settings
use Fonts  Use non-TeX fonts, then select an OpenType font that has
glyphs for Japanese and then your document should work nicely. Compile
with XeTeX or similar.

want to have a figure float within the boxfloat. If I however try to do 
this, I get the error:

LaTeX error: No counter 'subboxfloat' defined.

How can I make sure he understand sub-boxes/sub-figures inside a boxfloat?

The problem is a weakness in LyX display mechanism: text is drawn 
several characters at a time, while metrics (measurement of size) is 
done character-per-character. On windows and linux, it is not a problem, 
but on a Mac, where fonts use ligatures, it means that the cursor does 
not appear where it should.


To alleviate that, by default mac builds draws the screen char-by-char 
too. It works, but it is quite slow...

You can see what the effect is by adding
\force_paint_single_char 0
in the preferences file.

Unfortunately, this situation will not improve in version 2.1.

There is a branch that tackles this problem, but it is not ready yet.

Lyx 2.0.6: Document settings can't be changed (OK greyed out)

I am running LyX 2.0.6 on Windows 7 SP1. I'm having an issue with
changing any document settings of any file, the buttons *OK *and
*Apply *just remain greyed out. (Someone posted the same issue running
2.0.7dev on ubunto on stackexchange here
)

Any help is appreciated.

lyx branches problem

Thank you for drawing my attention to branches in lyx.

I did not know about it before.

I tried to convert an existing document to use branches.

I find branches very attractive but I have a problem.

In my document I have enumerate lists. One item has statements in two

languages. After converting the lines to branches I get error at compilation:

! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.

What can cause this error?

I attach a working and a converted non-working example file

(no-branches-OK.lyx, branch-not-working.lyx).

I don't think so. If you want to diminish the hassle, in Doc Settings
use Fonts > Use non-TeX fonts, then select an OpenType font that has
glyphs for Japanese and then your document should work nicely. Compile
with XeTeX or similar.

Thanks a lot for the boxfloat, it is exactly what I needed. Now I however 
want to have a figure float within the boxfloat. If I however try to do 
this, I get the error:

LaTeX error: No counter 'subboxfloat' defined.

How can I make sure he understand sub-boxes/sub-figures inside a boxfloat?
