And this?

I've no idea; haven't used anything from Microsoft since mid-1997.

I find your example does not have the arrows inn LyX, but does have them
in the PDF output, as yours does. I'm running Linux Mint with LyX 2.0.8.1.

Some things, such as an inserted SVG figure and rotated tables, do not
diaplay correctly in the LyX preview, but do correctly compile with
pdflatex. Because it's the final output that is important, you can always
compile the file and view the resulting PDF rather than the dvips preview.

Not sure. I used to get this messages but don't get them anymore I think
(or I have trained myself to completely ignore them perhaps).

Just out of curiosity, is (was) it the reason for the "warnings" that I
got occasionally (maybe every 1-2 months) from the list manager? (Like
messages to me having bounced, probe being sent and so on.)

Despite this, I never seemed to have missed a single message from the
list!

Display SVG graphics in Lyx

2015-09-18 Thread David
Dear list,

I have noticed that SVG graphics are not displayed correctly when
inserted in Lyx under Linux. For example, arrow heads are not displayed
in the Lyx editor (see screenshot attached). The created PDF is fine, so
it's not too big a problem. But it bothers me that it is displayed
perfectly in Lyx under Windows.

I use Lyx 2.1.4 under Suse 13.1, the SVG file has been created with
Inkscape 0.48. I use Inkscape as File Converter SVG -> PDF in Lyx.

I have attached a minimal example including an SVG file and the PDF
output. Can you reproduce the problem? Is there a solution?

Regards,
David

But that is not correct TeX code. If you were to write that in an
editor and tried to run TeX, you would get the same error. If you
write, in the box, (as TeX claims it will do in that error message)
$\sqrt A-B$ you would not get an error, but you would also not get
what I suspect you want. The $s put it in math mode for TeX. To get
the square root of the difference, write $\sqrt{A-B}$. Alternately, go
to Math mode in LyX, rather than TeX mode, and enter \sqrt . If you
then hit the space bar, you see a little blue square root sign, with a
blue box inside, and the cursor in the box. Then enter A-B. Easier,
and you see what you will get.

Maybe it's worth adding that "TeX Code" (aka ERT, Evil Red Text), is
intended for various sorts of constructionw that LyX does not natively
support, or doesn't support very naturally. As David said, most math can
be done in LyX's math mode.

Insert Tex Code

2015-09-18 Thread Sajjad
Hello forum,

I am trying to insert TeX code directly from the LyX interface Insert->Tex
Code . Then I see a box in the editor. Inside the box I entered the
following:

\sqrt A-B

When I go for preview I get the following error:

//
Errors:
Missing $ inserted

Description:

on \emph{L, }and any vector \sqrt A

-B

I've inserted a begin-math/end-math symbol since I think

you left one out. Proceed, with fingers crossed.

//

Any hint on what is missing in the process ?

Thanks
