WARNING: updating LaTeX or LyX under Windows will currently break LaTeX installation
Dear LyX Windows users, yesterday I noticed a severe bug in the LaTeX system "MiKTeX" that LyX is usually using under Windows. The problem is that if you - upgrade MiKTeX or LyX or - install a new LaTeX package or - refresh the MiKTeX package database you will end up in a broken LaTeX with error messages like "unknown procedure entry point". I experimented around for more than 2 hours but could not find a workaround once LaTeX is broken. Even a reinstallation of LyX or MiKTeX doesn't help since the result are always broken DLLs and I could not find a way to prevent this. Therefore I strongly recommend not to change anything in your LaTeX setup nor to compile LyX documents that might use special LaTeX packages hat are not yet installed on your PC. Also don't install another version of LyX or reinstall LyX. I hope this issue will be fixed soon and report back. regards Uwe

If you make a simple example for each of the bugs above and post on https://www.lyx.org/trac there's a good chance they will be fixed. I know that the painting bugs are not the most important to you, but it would still be nice to improve those. As for any LaTeX export bugs, please keep reporting those. If you know what the correct LaTeX code that should be produced is, that makes it easier to try to fix things. Thanks for all of your feedback! Best, Scott signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Keyboard shortcuts not working as expected
I'm running LyX-2.3.0 on Slackware-14.2. Most keyboard shortcuts work, but some do not. For example, on the Edit menu -> Text -> lowercase is the chord 'Alt-c down' but that does nothing. Do I need to enter that chord in the settings to have it work? Rich
BibTeX author entry in LyX document
A bibTeX entry in JabRef: @Manual{NRCS1996, title= {Keys to Soil Taxonomy}, author = {Soil Science Staff}, organization = {Natural Resource Conservation Service, US Department of Agriculture}, edition = {7}, year = {1996}, abstract = {Characteristics of soils keyed to provide identification.}, keywords = {soils, taxonomy, key}, } But, when I link that entry into a LyX document it appears as "Staff (1996)". How should I format the author so the reference is inserted as "Soil Science Staff (1996)"? Rich

When I look at Tools - Tex Information, standalone appears in both the latex classes and latex styles list. Also I can compile a raw *.tex file with pdflatex. So the latex side is available and works and lyx kind of knows about it. Not sure what in lyx determines what's listed in the dropdown though. Any help appreciated Using Ubuntu 16:04 Lyx 2.3.0. Cheers You need a LyX layout file for it. There's one at https://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Layouts (in section 7 of the user provided layouts portion). Park it in your local layouts folder (~/.lyx/layouts on a Linux system) and do Tools > Reconfigure in LyX, and you should be good to go.

Can you take a look at this thread and see if you can reproduce? Bernhard found a workaround, which was compiling with Qt 4, but it would be nice to figure out the core issue.
