Preview: pdf works, eps doesn't
Hi all, I have an eps file where the preview fails. However, when I convert it to pdf using epstopdf the preview is correct. I noticed that the script for eps uses first epstopdf and then lyxpreview2bitmap.py while the script for pdf uses convertDefault.py Is there any way to fix this? Use *.cls class file
Hi all, To submit a paper to a conference I have to use the class file provided (MSM.cls) which seems to be based on article (at least it uses the command \LoadClass{article}). Unfortunately I have no idea how class files are working in detail, cause LyX did every thing for me up until now. I tried to do it the following way: 1) Save MSM.cls in /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base and do texhash 2) Create a Layoutfile MSM.layout in ~/.lyx/layouts. Here I used the article.layout file as a template and changed only the second line to # \DeclareLaTexClass[MSM,article]{MSM} 3) Doing a LyX-Reconfigure gives in the terminal +checking for document class MSM [MSM, article]... no Can anybody help me please? What did I do wrong? -- Rainer Hoffmann Océ Printing Systems OPS TEC 23 Siemensallee 2 85581 Poing Tel. +49-8121-724508 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

1.1.6 displays graphics incorrect
I have a problem with 1.1.6 (and 1.1.6pre2): In my documents (created with 1.1.5) all the included eps files are not displayed correctly. It seems to me that the preview in lyx shows only a part of the graphic but does not scale it down so that it fits in the border. In the resulting dvi-file everything is fine. Rainer Hoffmann

Re: announce lyx-1.1.6pre2; Images in the Lyx Window
I have a tif image, convert it to eps with ImageMagick convert, and insert that eps-file into Lyx. The image is much larger then a page, so I scale it to 80 % of side width. Now the size of the border is correct but the content of that border is only the lower left corner of my image, i. e. the image is not scaled but trimmed. In the resulting dvi-file everything is fine, but it would be helpful to have it displayed correctly in lyx also. Rainer Hoffmann PS: The tiffinfo of the original file is TIFF Directory at offset 0x23038 Image Width: 1200 Image Length: 900 Resolution: 150, 150 pixels/inch Bits/Sample: 8 Compression Scheme: PackBits Photometric Interpretation: RGB color Image Description: "MATLAB Handle Graphics" Orientation: row 0 top, col 0 lhs Samples/Pixel: 3 Rows/Strip: 2 Planar Configuration: single image plane "Lars Gullik Bjønnes" schrieb: The second prerelease of 1.1.6 has been available for some days now, and this time it is also announced here and not just on the developers list. We'd like it a lot if people took the time to test this version, but let me come with a stern warning first: The LyX file format has changed, so you will have problems of going back to a earlier lyx release unless you BACKUP your files. You have been warned. We would especially like testing of: - the new tabular code - the new import/export code - the externalinset code Also general user views are appreciated. From NEWS: As with all of the 1.1.x versions of LyX, this release contains a lot of new code: in particular, half of the changes described in the ChangeLog (which dates back to the 1.1.0 release) describe changes in LyX 1.1.6! Besides the usual under-the-hood changes, LyX 1.1.6 has many new user-visible features. The main visible feature is that the GUI-independent branch of development has been merged, as well as code from the older development version: - many popups have been rewritten to use the new GUI-I scheme. In the process they have received a nice cleanup: the Document and Paragraph popups now contain in one single place what was previously scattered in many places. Similarly, the citation and cross reference popups have been overhauled. - LyX now has a Preference popup where you can change most of your lyxrc settings [Allan, details?] - the menus can now be defined in a text file, and they automatically display the keyboard bindings associated with commands. - it is now possible to provide your own icons for the toolbar. - last but not least, work has begun on a KDE and a Gnome frontend for LyX. They are not officially supported for this version, but this will give you an idea of what is happening. Other major changes in 1.1.6 include: - the table support has been completely rewritten. It is now a modular object (inset), each cell of which owns a (also) newly written text inset. This now permits automatic text-wrap inside a tabular cell (if you define a width), multiparagraph mode AND setting of layouts for the paragraphs (lists inside a tabular cell!). Last but not least, a wide tabular now scrolls automatically so that all of it is visible without the need to enlarge the window! While there are as yet no other new features, they will be now MUCH easier to add. It may be that because of being "young" code some features may not work right now, but at least it is much better than before. - new external material inset: this is a new kind of very powerful inset which will allow LyX to interface intelligently with external applications. Among other good things, it will finally allow you to include GIF, JPEG, TIF, PNG, or just about any other raster format images in your document. It will even do an approximate ascii rendering when you do Ascii export if you have gifscii installed. - The code which converts from LyX format to anything else (for viewing or exporting purposes) and from anything else to LyX has been rewritten. In particular, it is now possible to export to PDF, and to import from HTML/MSWord. In fact it's now possible to add new import/export formats without recompiling LyX by specifying external programs or scripts in lyxrc settings (note that the old import/export lyxrc settings no longer work). - LyX can do command line exports without opening any GUI components. - The multilingual support has been improved. It is now possible to use in a document languages with different encodings, e.g. German (iso8859-1) and Czech (iso8859-2). Such a document can be viewed on screen using an iso10646-1 (Unicode) font. However, it is (currently) not possible to have differently encoded languages in the same paragraph. The languages and the encodings are defined in text files. - Improved support for Hebrew and Arabic (also present in 1.1.5fix2). - included files work now

1) When I click with the mouse on a menu, e. g. View then the View menu opens. Fine. Now if I move the mouse right to the Navigate menu while the mouse button is still pressed I would expect that the Naviage menu opens and the View menu closes. But that doesn't happen. Why? 2) In the File-Save As Dialog: When I set the cursor in the middle of the filename and press the "Entf"-Key (I think it's called "Del" on english keyboard layouts) the character on the left side of the cursor is deleted instead of the right side 3) Same Dialog as in 2): If I press shift and cursor left/right I would expect to select the character. Instead the cursor jumps to the begin/end of the filename Rainer "Lars Gullik Bjønnes" schrieb: The second prerelease of 1.1.6 has been available for some days now, and this time it is also announced here and not just on the developers list. - included files work now with docbook and linuxdoc; new layout docbook-book. - PSpell library and Aspell spell checker support now included thanks largely to Kevin Atkinson (PSpell and Aspell maintainer). Re: announce lyx-1.1.6pre2; Preferences menu
I build a new lyx and start it with src/lyx. Then I go to the preferences menu and change something small (e.g. adding an option for dvips). Then I click on save and the appearance of the document on the screen changes: All the fonts look smaller, the title is the same size as standard text. All in all it's different than before, but I never wanted that! Did I do something wrong? Now when I close lyx and start it again I get some messages in the terminal window I didn't have before: Lyx: Unknown tag '12' [around line 24 of file ~/.lyx/preferences] Lyx: Unknown tag '00' [around line 24 of file ~/.lyx/preferences] (8 more of those) ... Re: announce lyx-1.1.6pre2; Insert Raster Images
Hi all, Two things about the new possibility to insert raster images (which is great!): 1) I expected the menu entry to insert an raster image under Insert-... and not under File-Insert. 2) What I really miss are all the nice settings from the eps-figure: Width and Heigth in relative and absolute values, and the rotation angle Bye, Rainer
Re: announce lyx-1.1.6pre2; Insert Raster Images
Just to make this clear to me: Is there any way now to insert a raster image via the External Inset and scale down the resulting eps-file or can I just scale down the raster image via -geometry and loose information? You can manually convert your images to EPS and use the Inset-Figure to insert it as usual. In the next version (1.2.0) InsetGraphics is going to make its first (official) appearance and this will allow you to insert bitmap images. Possibly in a later revision InsetGraphics and InsetExternal will be joined to provide a capable inclusion mechanism that will handle everything. -- Baruch Even http://techst02.technion.ac.il/~sbaruch/ (My Site) http://www.redrival.com/jindor/(My brothers ADD site) " Learn to laugh ... it's the path to true love! lyx-1.1.6pre2, pdflatex
Hi all, pdflatex is (finally) installed on my system. (i.e. when I type pdflatex at the command line, it starts up). Now when I click on View-PDF (Pdflatex) I get the following messages in the terminal, where I started lyx Converting from latex to pdf2 Running none sh: none: command not found Executing command: acroread test.pdf Then Acrobat Reader starts with an error message that he can't find the document.
