AW: A Newsgroup For LyX

Mailing-Lists are more easier and do their job very well. Why change a working system? You even don't need an archive in this case: Nearly every answered question is saved very comfortable to search in Herbert's fantastic Lyx-help.
Inserting ps/pdf pages
Hi, I'm searching for a way to insert one page (ps/pdf) that was generated by another latex(pdflatex)-run into a second document. Something like inserting a picture but replacing the whole page. The problem is, that the two documents use completely different styles and I get a real mess when I try to redefine everything and insert the latex code of the second document ... Thanks for your help in advance. Bye, Steffen
AW: lyx install on a win 2000 machine
Hi Kent, maybe something is wrong with your miktex-installation, not with lyx. To find this out export your text to latex-format within lyx. Then open a command prompt and change currentdir to the doc-dir and use "texify -p mytext.tex". If that doesn't work, your miktex/bibtex installation is corrupt. The only difference between before and after your advice is that now a windows command window appears during the process. Kent

Hello Kent, yes change at "Latex -> PDF" the "pdflatex $$i" to "texify -p $$i". Then save the config and restart lyx. Steffen --- You are right, I am using Miktex. Were specificially in the preferences command do I make this change? Is this under Edit->Preferences->Converters->Converters? If so, do I change the field Converter to "texify -p"? Kent
AW: lyx install on a win 2000 machine
Hello Kent, I assume you are using Miktex. At the moment I'm working with the latest versions of miktex and lyx and I don't have this problem, but I remember to have this problem in an older version. I used the folling workaround: replace in the preferences the "latex" command with "texify" ("texify -p" for pdftex). It's a preprocessor from miktex (see miktex-help), which does all the bibtex stuff and so on. The only disadvantage is that texify is run three times from lyx although it does all necessary multiple latex/bibtex runs itself in one execution. Slow, but it worked for me. CU Steffen -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Kent Kostuk [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Gesendet: Sonntag, 18. November 2001 04:01 An: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Betreff: lyx install on a win 2000 machine I am extremely happy with my LyX install on a Win2000 laptop. It has gone almost as smoothly as possible. The only problem I am having is with bibtex stuff. When I try to export a PDF file I get one error box with a bunch of lines in it say something like "Warning: Citation 'some citation' on page 4 undefined on input" I don't understand why this is happening. I have my bst in the same director as my lyx file. The dir structures are essentially the same as on my Linux system where the lyx files were originall created. Does anyone have any pointers? Thanks Kent Kostuk [EMAIL PROTECTED]
AW: Force Lyx to recompile everything - feature request?
I am using Win32 lyx-1.1.6fix3. It doesn't update automatically when I change my .bst file - maybe a proplem of the port. In my document only the filename without path is given in the Bibtex-Inset-Dialogue. The bst-file is found via the latex path (it's not located in the document dir). So I think there's no chance for lyx to find out, if it has changed or not. I don't put it in the documentdir, because my latex then always doesn't find it. The problem with "Close the document and reload it"-Workaround is that it takes quite a long time for lyx to format an opened document when opened on my slow machine ... Thanks anyway for your help. Bye, Steffen -Ursprungliche Nachricht- > Hi, > > is there a trick/command to force lyx to recompile the whole document? Close the document and reload it (You can easily do this by pressing C-w M-f 1). Another option is to delete the .aux and the .tex.dep files from the temp dir. > For example if you are changing a bibtex-style and you want to see if it > now fits, you always have to change your cites in the document to force > lyx to run bibtex. The code for deciding when to run latex/bibtex has been improved recently. There should be almost no problems with lyx-1.1.6fix3 (in particular, if you change the citation style, lyx will run bibtex)

I don't think it's an update problem, because the problem exists on my system, too. I searched the archive about this problem: Is it possible that it's caused by some optimizing compiling options of gcc as mentioned earlier? If it's so, how can the source made robust to be protected about this "optimizations"? Steffen
How to handle multiple page algorithms?
Hi, I'm trying to layout algorithms with a length of multiple pages. I used algorithmic-floats for short algorithms, so I want to continue the same style for the long ones. Here's the problem: If I use a long algorithm in an algorithmic-float it will be layouted on one page cutting of the other pages. If I use the algorithmic-environment without putting it into a float there's no headline and these nice surrunding lines anymore. So how can I produce the float-style for an algorithm even when not defining itself as a float? Thanks for your help in advance. Ciao, Steffen P.S. I'm using the style "algo-0.3" for typsetting algorithms in lyx.
Problems installing LyX 1.1.6fix1 (win32)
Hello, I installed the new version of Lyx (on Win2000), but it hangs (as reported before in this mailing list) when you first time press a key on the keyboard. Everything else works fine when you only use the mouse. (With Version 1.1.6 there's that problem, too. Version 1.1.5fix2 no problems.) As a possible solution there was suggested an upgrade of the x-server. I tried X-Win32 5.1.1. build2 (demo version) and Winaxe 6.0 (demo version): The same behaviour. Has anyone a solution for this problem? Another thing on Version 1.1.6.fix1 is that the runconfigure.bat doesn't complete. It stops at: "checking latex configuration ... (auto)" Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Bye, Steffen
