That would have been OK. Lyx is a fine piece of software, and I do appreciate the plethora of help that came back. However be warned, someone in the general public is now using Lyx and is looking forward to "falling off a log":). Vince Alkre

I was trying to do it with out using Latex because I am working with a math teacher that will most likly be unwilling to learn latex. Thanks for the example. Vince

However I was able to reproduce the effect well enough. The problem is that I need two(2) enumerate lists side by side per lyx file that follows. Note that one is numerals the other is alpha style list. It seems the problem is breaking up the lists. This is a matching exercise by a high school math teacher that spends to much time fighting ms-word and very much likes the math features of lyx. Thanks everyone for all the help so far. (ARRae) > > Allen, Thank you for the response. It is just what I would expect and is right in line with the Lyx construct(which is wonderful). However, I am not getting the new minipage when I use paragraph layout to "start a new minipage" unless I also start a new paragraph and then the purpose is lost. I also do not get teh "inset label" you speak of. Is it possible that there is a configuration or set-up issue?. I installed version 1.1.6fix4 last night(Openlinux 2.4e), the compile went well and all seems to be working, except that I still can not get minipage to work right. If I am somehow just missing the most basic point, smack me with the big stick . p.s I have read the documentation. Side by Side lists
Hello, lyxperts Can someone explain how to do in lyx?: \begin{minipage}[t]{2.5in} \begin{enumerate}\itemsep -2pt \item \item \item \item \item \item \item \item \end{enumerate} \end{minipage} \begin{minipage}[t]{2.5in} \begin{enumerate}\itemsep -2pt \item \item \item \item \item \item \end{enumerate} \end{minipage} \end{document} In Latex this would produce two numbered lists side by side. In lyx I am having trouble getting second list to float next to first. Naturally I could just put in the LaTeX code but there must be more elegant way in Lyx.
