Re: Follow a hyperlink from Lyx editor
A good reason for ditching the feature, I'll forget about it. Gordon. . This feature has been actually already part of LyX and we ditched it because of security concerns (i.e. injecting some malicious code into url which would get executed when clicking on the url). I have working patch, which I personally use, but you would need to compile lyx on your own... Pavel

Re: LyX freezes periodically
The nearest thing I have had to your problem was the computer running out of memory during calculations. It was a software issue where the program was using blocks of virtual memory on the hard drive, but forgetting to release them. It was not Lyx, but a Windows based CAD application. Keystrokes were being accepted but did not appear on screen for several seconds. However with 16gb of ram available this should not happen to you. Gordon. Sorting in Lyx
Does Lyx have the ability to sort strings? I am working with some relatively large text files, over 200 lines in some cases. I have been working in Linux which can do a line by line sort but runs into problems when a string is longer than a single line. Thanks, Gordon.

Canned Beamer
Has anybody used slide sequences produced with Beamer in conjunction with a recorded audio track? Gordon Tauranga N.Z.
Re: Canned Beamer
Thanks Liviu, Your reply confirms my thinking that Beamer would need to be integrated into a recording system. I worked in this field years ago, when we made graphics by pasting symbols on to a background, or drew them by hand. Presentations were a sequence of 35mm slides, the sound tape included an extra track with pulses to advance the slides. I have a piece of commercial software that does this in video but it lacks the slide making abilities of Beamer. More thinking, and some experimenting to do. To Quit, or Not To Quit
(With an apology to Will Shakespeare.) Proposed by Alan, Seconded by Liviu, That I do not quit. After a night's sleep and time to think, I accept Alan's proposal. Thank you gentlemen. I will stay, but for how long is probably out of my hands. I was teaching digital and solid state basics in the early 1960's, so that my time left on earth to work with Lyx, or anything else for that matter, is definitely limited. May I make two comments about this group. 1. Alan said that this group is one of the friendliest around, I agree. However, I think that any newcomer, joining in the middle of the recent acrimonious discussion, might well be frightened away. 2. There are far too many repeats. There is no need to regurgitate all of a previous post when replying. A few words or a couple of lines should be all that is necessary to define the subject under discussion. Too many people merely click on the Reply button, resulting in posts that are far too long. Current computer based composition methods include easy editing. Why not use it? I should make another comment. I 'own' a computer group - most of them 'distaff ' members, who use a fairly specialised CAD programme for design with fabrics and fibres. One of the rules is No lengthy repetitions. Offenders get a friendly caution. Persistent regurgitators are placed on moderation, meaning that their posts have to be approved before reaching the list. This system works. Remember that there are some parts of this planet where users are still on dial-up. Repeats serve no purpose and cost them money. Cheers, Gordon, Tauranga N.Z.

Why People Give Up on Groups.
Hello to all, I have been a Lyx user for a year or so and regarded this Group as place to find help. I am saddened to see it descend into a slanging session. I quit, Gordon New Zealand

Re: Problem with text being inserted randomly
I have had this in a fairly small way in Lyx but also in Libre Office. Tracked it down to the Clipboard History, when I had been editing. When scrolling through Mouse Scroll wheel was occasionally pasting text from the Clipboard. Possibly me being too heavy on the scroll? Maybe not your problem? Gordon New Zealand.
