Just an idea - synced navigation in LyX and preview?
Hi I have quite often the preview as well as lyx open, and the outline window detached. And I thought: wouldn't it be nice, if the preview (in my case pdf, okular) would navigate synchronous with the navigation based on the outline window? i.e. a forward lookup (which I did not get to work with okular... but that is a different story) whenever I click on a section or graph in the outline? Probably even better, to have a toggle button in the outline, which specify the navigation target (LyX, preview or both)? This would save precious desktop space, as the viewer would simply have to display the page. Any comments? Cheers, Rainer -- Rainer M. It is always worth to dream, however I do not see technical solution how to tie what is displayed in PDF reader application with what is displayed in LyX application. LyX does not have idea on which page the text where you cursor is currently present will be present. What is worse, I cannot imagine that any PDF viewing application can report back what part of the document is actually displayed. I am not saying that this is technically impossible, but requires some standardization between both, which would be hard to achieve. Howver, If any one can do all that, I am signing below that idea with two hands! I can imagine even automatic update of the PDF in the background. -- Manveru jabber: manv...@manveru.pl gg: 1624001 http://www.manveru.pl

Well - there is backward search (Navigation - forward search), with which it should be possible to jump to the location in the preview at which I am in LyX (this commands need to specified for different viewers). So, if after every navigation via the outline window a forward-search would be done, LyX and the preview would be in sync (for certain viewers). So I do not think this should be to difficult to implement (from the perspective of a non-lyx-developer...) I am not talking about from preview to LyX, because this would have to be implemented in the viewer (which it is via backward search and synctex). I am imaging a navigation from outline view to LyX and preview. Howver, If any one can do all that, I am signing below that idea with two hands! I can imagine even automatic update of the PDF in the background. This would definitely be possible, but would have to be linked to e.g. autosave, to not use to many resources.
