Sure, but I do not know whether the name matters for debian, and
whether regular debian user will be able to parse our file names and
 feel at home with them.

There are certain requirements in order to play nice with the packages
provided by Debian and Ubuntu:

- Nothing in NAME (before the first _) may be changed
- VERSION should parse smaller as 1 according to the debian versioning
rules. This is ensured by prepending a '0.' in front of it. This makes
sure that as soon as real Debian packages become available (normally
starting with revision 1) they are preferred.
- The revision of the used .diff on the wiki (currently 3) should be
included so that users can easily update packages when new ones become
available.

speciffic to the document, possibly either the amount of math or the

Could you open a new bug on bugzilla.lyx.org describing the problem. If you

Hello,

I was trying to create debian lyx 1.3.6 package for Sarge, following
instructions from lyx wiki on :
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Linux

When fakerout was compiling, errors ocurred as :

*libtool: link: `package.lo' is not a valid libtool object*

Perhaps some I've to install some debian package but what is it ?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, of course I am in agreement with you. I am just surprised no body is
prepared to generate a deb file since Lyx1.3.4

Its all voluntary of course and Lyx is a great gift so I am not really
complaining. Just surprised that debian users seem unconcerned about 1.3.6.

I thought 1.4 does have a lot of new features so maybe that is worth a bash.

Xlib: No protocol specified
lyx: cannot connect to X server :0

By default, Xserver does not allow a foreign application to open a new window.
You should run xhost + in a window belonging to the user running the X server.

As about running multiple versions of lyx on the same Unix platform, it seems
that
it is easier when you compile from source than with a package manager.
Here I configure --with-version-suffix=lyx-1.3.x so that private directories are
called ~/.lyx-1.3.x, even after linking /usr/local/lyx to /usr/local/lyx-1.3.x
In that manner, it remains possible to call lyx (aka lyx-1.3.6) and lyx-1.3,4
with two separate personal custom dirs (no ~/.lyx dir with this).

It's necessary to update manually the newly created custom dir when upgrading,
to retrieve personal bindings and such.

Both 1.3.5 and 1.3.6 fix a number of bugs, so it is certainly worth it to
install them also for unix users. Normally that does go smooth ithout the
trouble you are having.

I am running Simply Mepis - a debian distribution - on an intel machine.

I tried installing 1.3.6 from the tar.gz version while leaving undisturbed,

It was a dream doing so and running src/lyx brought up lyx 1.3.6. After make

Re: Lyx 1.3.6 and Debian Sarge

2005-07-24 Thread Gerhard Lindel

You could try to apply
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/lyx/lyx_1.3.4-2.diff.gz to your
unpacked source, chmod +x debian/rules, add a changelog entry with updated
version number in debian/changelog and then build .deb packages with

fakeroot debian/rules binary

If you do that and have a clean sarge install (I don't have one, otherwise I
would do it), please put the created .debs on
ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/incoming. If you have any questions, pleae ask. If
you can wait a bit I can also send you an adapted patch for 1.3.6.

I tried to build a deb-package. No succees. I followed the instructions
in F. Ronneburg:

Debian Anwenderhandbuch (manual).
After dh_make I tried to adapt the files in debian/.
With
./configure --with-frontend=qt --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt3
in rules it is possible to build a deb with dpkg-buildpackage.
But one cannot install this package.
The same with a package which is build with alien from a rpm.
Sorry, but I do not know very much about building packages an compilling.
If someone knows where to find or how to build a lyx-1.3.6.deb for Sarge
please

post it.
Thanks for your answers.

I'm very interested to have a deb file for lyx-1.3.6.
What does it means apply lyx_1.3.4-2.diff.gz to
unpacked source lyx 1.3.6 ?
I tried to patch source with lyx_1.3.4-2.diff.gz but failed.
Thanks for further information about how to build an
adapted source of 1.3.6.

Lyx 1.3.6 and Debian Sarge

2005-07-18 Thread Gerhard Lindel

Hi all,
I wanted to compile the newest version on my Debian Sarge:
./configure --with-frontend=qt

Configure ended with :
configure: error: Cannot compile a simple Qt executable. Check you have
the right $QTDIR !

libqt3-mt-dev is installed.
Any ideas?
