 This is great Christian! Thanks a lot for sending this out.. It's very
 useful.. I made a minor change in outline.inc so that the end of the
 note will look similar to the start with a Note: End..

you're welcome... but this reminds me:

Does anybody know what the purpose is of the Note inset?
Are there any plans for making that printable in the future?

About the environment I hacked, any improvements are welcome since I've
never really worked in pure latex before.

What I'd really like is to get a gray background (or yellow in a color
print) in the printout. Does anybody know how to do this?

To have some parts of the text that are viewable but not printable.
See this as the equivalent of the % character in latex (comment).

Christian Are there any plans for making that printable in the
Christian future?

There are no concrete plans, but there have been discussions on the
subjects. Ideas include

- export notes as % latex comments (this should not be too difficult,
  but there are some problems to solve)
- have the possibility to print the comments (but in which form?)
- have the possiblity to give tags to notes, ad print only notes with
  a certain tag.

I think that the last two will not happen soon, since as soon as this
is implemented, people will find a lot of `creative' uses of this and
demand new features :) So such a feature requires a lot of planning.

No idea really, but I think (as Jean-Marc) said before, that it makes

A footnote is an alternative (as well as figure and margin note), but how
can I control wether the footnote prints or not?
I would also like some indication that this is note is not always

Thank's, didn't know that. I've added that alternative as well to

It certainly sounds like a relatively straight forward way to implement,
so maybe you are only left with wanting to have really short notes appear

Check out this thread, it's basically about modifying the lyx-script in
order to convert the note environment into a margin environment.

http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=lyx-usersm=102747712138781w=2

The solution I'm using is based on the Comment environment instead,
where I use
\usepackage{comment}
\includecomment{comment}
in the preamble which will print the comments.

I've also made an additional environment which I use to put notes in my
thesis with stuff that I'll eventually replace with real text.

You can find that environment in this catalog:
http://www.md.kth.se/~chr/lyx/outline_notes/

(you'll need to move outline.inc to your catalog .lyx/layouts and modify
your .lyx/layouts/stdlayouts.inc so that it includes outline.inc)

If I don't want these notes to appear in the output, I put:
\excludecomment{contentCmt}
in the preamble

Check out this thread, it's basically about modifying the lyx-script in
order to convert the note environment into a margin environment.

The solution I'm using is based on the Comment environment instead,
where I use
\usepackage{comment}
\includecomment{comment}
in the preamble which will print the comments.

\excludecomment{contentCmt}
in the preamble

This is great Christian! Thanks a lot for sending this out.. It's very
useful.. I made a minor change in outline.inc so that the end of the
note will look similar to the start with a Note: End..

Hi,

Is there any way to print the Lyx notes (not marginal notes or
