I haven't used them, but I am pretty sure that there are a couple in the
ctan archives.

go to http://tug.ctan.org/search.html
and search for "questionnaire" , "quiz" , "exam" or similar in the description

Hi everybody,

i was just wondering if there is some document class that provides
support to create multiple choice tests or if there is a trick to
create some boxes in "common" document classes, where one can tick the
correct answer. I just didn't find anything suitable.

I'm running Lyx 1.4.3 on MAC OS 10.4.8 (if this is important...)

I have made such tests by using the square from the math panel.
Bring up the math panel, select "AMS misc" and a square will be
one of the many symbols offered.

This square is fine for ticking answers. "AMS operators" also
have a box with a diagonal cross in it - useful if you also want to
print a document showing the correct answers.

Hi there,
thanks for your quick answers. I'll take Uwe's Kreuzeltest-Solution and
use the frameboxes. Should be enough for me, since i only have to do a
short test with 15 questions for my class.

If you're interested, I found this on ctan :

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/examdesign.html

But this seems to be quite old and i didn't get LyX to notice the
document class.

You probably do not have a LyX layout file for it. LyX only recognizes
classes for which it has a layout installed. (The layout file is
essentially the map from the LaTeX class to the GUI display of it.) You
might be able to modify an existing layout; there is a modicum of help
for doing so in the LyX documentation. You need to put the modified
layout file where LyX will see it (there is a layout directory in the
LyX tree under your home directory for such things), make sure LaTeX can
see the class file (texhash or whatever your distribution calls for),
then Tools->Reconfigure in LyX and restart LyX.

There is at least one test class out there, but I don't recall its
name. I use my own brew, based on using a Scantron for an answer
sheet, and some nice stuff I got help for on this list (see the
preamble). A sample quiz is attached. Note that Scantron
sheets/readers accept multiple marks/question.

I'm sure there are special clases for that purpose, have a look at
http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?introduction=yes

Attached is a LyX-file that I sued for multiple choice tests.

You might try the following. In Document->Settings...->LaTeX Preamble,
add \usepackage{bbding} (and, of course, install the bbding package if
you don't already have it). In Documents->Settings...->Bullets, click
the box for first level bullets, select Custom, delete the contents of
the input box and replace it with \Square. Then just use an itemization
list for the answers. In the GUI you'll still see an asterisk, but in
the output document each answer will be preceded by a decently large
hollow square.

There are other options (large circles, etc.) if you do not like the
squares, but they may use packages other than bbding.
