What about aspell ?
there is an alias mechanism which avoids symbolic links.

Yes, this is a known problem. Support for french is a bit complicated
by the various incompatible options...

Hello,
When one installs ispell-french with Fink, it creates the file
/sw/lib/francais.hash, whereas Lyx looks for /sw/lib/french.hash.
I don't have problems, since I know how to use "ln". However, some 
MacOSX users do not.
