I have had this in a fairly small way in Lyx but also in Libre Office. Tracked it down to the Clipboard History, when I had been editing. When scrolling through Mouse Scroll wheel was occasionally pasting text from the Clipboard. Possibly me being too heavy on the scroll? Maybe not your problem? Gordon New Zealand.

I am currently writing up my PhD thesis, with each chapter being a child lyx document. One chapter in particular is suffering from a problem; text is being inserted randomly in any form of content (equations, figure floats, chapter titles, tables). I have tried deleting the offending text, but it only reappears in seemingly random places. The text itself is not random, it is text from elsewhere within the chapter (sometimes it is parts of equations, text, text out of ERT [such as "\ac{}"]. It seems as if this phenomenon is only present within this chapter (thankfully!). I have also tried copying and pasting the contents to a fresh lyx file but the problem still exists, albeit a bit better. My OS is Windows XP, although given the same file the problem exists on my own personal Windows 7 based laptop. Some of the chapters are modified LyX files from my previous documents (LyX 1.6), does this have any bearing on the issue?I would hate to abandon LyX due to this (I love the benefits of LaTeX with visibility), but I maybe forced to use a word processor. I simply cannot afford to keep spending time fixing documents corrupted by LyX anymore. I would really appreciate any guidance on how to solve this problem...Many Regards,Richard. > > > I have the same problem. I think this happens because heavy memory and thread safety problems in lyx. Especially when I'm marking something and then deleting, or cut/paste . It even happens that I find links of my browser inserted in my latex document. I also split the document in smaller chapters, so that it's not affecting the whole document. When it's inserting a big chunk of text it's even not that bad, because it's visible. But imagine that to me happened that a single "c" was inserted all over my document. This bug is present also today in the latest lyx 2.1 dev builds. When I have the intuition that it could have inserted again something, I'm pressing on "undo" to check if it's still fine, and if it's fine i press on redo and continue my work. such a horrible bug, I could not imagine, and it seems the devs also don't have a real solution to it, because I think it was still not identified.

Re: Problem with text being inserted randomly
Hi Rich, I have not had that problem with Lyx, but am at present trying to remove it - or something very similar from Libre Office. OS is Kubuntu 13.04 but it first cropped up in 12.04. If a word, a phrase and sometimes a whole paragraph is copied, or cut during editing it is likely to re-appear almost anywhere in the document. I had been blaming the clipboard software but now am reasonably sure that it is three button mouse issue with the mouse interpreting a scroll wheel movement as a third button click. Perhaps it's my fault, being too heavy handed with the mouse? Gordon Tauranga N.Z.

The word should not exist anywhere - it's very specific. I will see if i can get a smaller file (non thesis based) derived from this file to exhibit the same behaviour so I can publicly post it for all. Also going to try the latest version, see if that helps... Cheers, Rich

Hi I have never experienced that problem :). I guess it should be easy to fix, however, we probably need a minimal lyx file showing the problem. Try taking halves out and see how far you can get the text down to. (try removing external material as well, and remember to make a back up copy ;) ) If you do not want to post the resulting file to the public list you can email it to me and I will have a quick look at it :) Ingar Pareliussen

On my laptop I always use a separate keyboard and mouse and monitor for any serious writing. Plus the problem only exists in one specific chapter, even in completed subsections and figures which I have not even touched for some considerable time.

On Linux you have the 3rd mouse button that pastes selected things, and when using a laptop trackpad it often so happens to just paste things. Problem with text being inserted randomly
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has advice on a possible bug I am experiencing in LyX 2.0.5. Some of the chapters are modified LyX files from my previous documents (LyX 1.6), does this have any bearing on the issue? I would hate to abandon LyX due to this (I love the benefits of LaTeX with visibility), but I maybe forced to use a word processor. I simply cannot afford to keep spending time fixing documents corrupted by LyX anymore. I would really appreciate any guidance on how to solve this problem... Many Regards, Richard.
