Hiy Scott,

thanks! Closing the source view reduced the lag significantly, but a
little remains. Didn't expect this to be a cause of lag.
I also tried a new document but couldn't see a noticeable change.
I'm using Lyx 2.1.1 in a virtualized linux.

Note that using a virtualized linux may also cause redrawing of screen
to be slower and lead to lag.

Hi Tao, yes I imagine that's annoying. The problem you are seeing is
called lag. There is no preference that you can set for this because
LyX always tries its best to produce as little lag as possible. I
don't think anyone would prefer to have lag. The solution is to figure
out why LyX is running slow and thus giving you lag. A common reason
for lag is that you have the view source panel open. Is that the case?

Do you see the same behavior is you start a new document and you just
paste a paragraph in it? Does the backspace still do the same thing?

Also, it is useful when you send questions to always include you OS
and its version as well as the LyX version you are using.

Best,

Scott

Good to know. You'll also notice a difference if you have the source
view set to view just the current paragraph's source versus the entire
document's source. The reason why it causes lag is because after every
keystroke (or backspace), LyX has to reexport the entire document to
LaTeX to show you the source. This is what takes time.

Note that there are other reasons why LyX can lag. I imagine there are
several spaces where LyX could optimize but from what I understand it
is hard to track this down. We are always interested in patches :)

Scott
