Yeah, I probably didn't send enough information. I'm using a bibtex 
database and a .bst definition file. I have included \usepackage{url} 
in the preamble.

The interesting thing is that the first pass of LaTeX and BibTeX go 
smoothly. The error message pops up after the second LaTeX pass. I've 
checked out the .dvi file that's left in the temporary LyX directory and 
the URL's show up fine.

I've tried the following two syntaxes in the .bib file:

howpublished = {\url{http://www.lyx.org}},
howpublished = {\url|http://www.lyx.org|},

Right now I have no clue what the problem is. I'm including the first 
part of the error message at the end of this mail.

Any ideas?

Have you put '\usepackage{url}' in your Layout/LaTeX Preamble? It
is put there by LyX automagically, when Insert/URL is used, but
LyX has no way how to know that you use it in BibTeX.
