I tried what was suggested, running the command

rpm -i --nodeps lyx-1.3.4-1mdk92_qt.i586.rpm

There were, of course, no dependency conplaints during compilation.
However, when I tried to run LyX, I did get a massive complaint:

lyx: relocation error lyx: undefined symbol: _ZN18QMeta...

I am using Mandrake 9.0
Maybe, you could try Nirmal's rpm. You can donwload it from:

Nirmal, I think the problem is the lyx.spec has a dependency on qt,
while mandrake provides qt3. I think that you could/should replce in
lyx.spec the line
%define frontdep qt = 2.2.1
with something like
%define frontdep qt3 = 3.1.0
Thanks JMarc.. I made the change above and uploaded the new rpm to

The moc binary is in the /usr/lib/qt3 tree, but the qt libraries are in
/usr/lib64. I can create a symbolic link (and that is my inclination)
You may want to check the help for the configure script.. there's an
option to specify the qt libraries directory separately..

from the qt3/lib director to select (*.a) or to all in the real location,
but prefer not to mess with library structures I don't fully grok.
I would think that a symbolic link from /usr/lib/qt3/lib to
/usr/lib64 wouldn't hurt (since it's symbolic)...

Nirmal, I think the problem is the lyx.spec has a dependency on qt,
while mandrake provides qt3. I think that you could/should replce in
lyx.spec the line
%define frontdep qt = 2.2.1
with something like
%define frontdep qt3 = 3.1.0
Thanks JMarc.. I made the change above and uploaded the new rpm to
www.personal.psu.edu/nug107/lyx .. can you please trasnfer it to
ftp.lyx.org? My apologies to those who've had to do the --nodeps...
hopefully it should be OK now..

Hello All:

I tried what was suggested, running the command

rpm -i --nodeps lyx-1.3.4-1mdk92_qt.i586.rpm

There were, of course, no dependency conplaints during compilation.
However, when I tried to run LyX, I did get a massive complaint:

lyx: relocation error lyx: undefined symbol: _ZN18QMeta...

I am using Mandrake 9.0

Hope someone can help...

Hmm, John, unfortunately, I only have access to this directory as
anonymous user, and cannot download from it (the ftp server has been
rebuilt in september). We have also set up a directory
ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/incoming/ (where I have the rights to read and
write), but I have not been able to set it up so that it allows
uploads. This is something that we should sort out with people at
via.ecp.fr, but in the meantime I have to get the files from another
source.

Therefore I'd appreciate if you could put your rh9 rpm somewhere (on
your lyx.org account for example) where I can fetch it.

Hello All:

I came to this thread late and may have missed something along the way.
I currently have LyX 1.3.1 installed on my Mandrake 9.0 box.

Do I have any hope of installing 1.3.4 using
lyx-1.3.4-1mdk92_qt.i586.rpm? Are there any adjustments I must take first?

Or would I have better luck compiling lyx-1.3.4.tar.gz?

Thanks,
ANDREW

I guess you should just try it. It should work if the versions of gcc
are compatible (if you have gcc >=3.2).

Andrew> Or would I have better luck compiling lyx-1.3.4.tar.gz?

Yes, it is probably easier.

requires qt >= 2.2.1

Try the following:

rpm -i --nodeps lyx-1.3.4-1mdk92_qt.i586.rpm

At least, it worked pretty fine with my Mandrake 9.2.

Andrew,

Go to www.rpmfind.net and grab a newer package for both that will work
with your Mandrake distribution. While I know nothing about Mandrake's
package system, on Red Hat I can take a newer .src.rpm and rebuild it
locally so it will work on an earlier distribution version.
