lyxpipe problem

2004-06-20 Thread n/a

Hi list,

I'm pretty much a linux and lyx newbie. I have a problem with the lyxpipe. I want to
get JabRef to communicate with lyx so that JabRef can insert bibliographical
information into lyx-documents. After I read how to get the lyxserver pipe running
(I'm not sure if I completely misunderstood that advice: insert a line into the file
lyxrc.default like this: \lyxserver /home/s.chicken/.lyxpipe) I inserted that line
into lyxrc. But nothing happend. Lyx didn't create the files lyxpipe.in and
lyxpipe.out. So I get an error message in JabRef saying that either lyx is not
working or the serverpipe isn't configured properly.

Is there anything I can do to get the serverpipe runnig properly?

I use LYX 1.3.4 on Suse 9.1 and JabRef 1.4

Thank you in advance!

Kai

Hello Ben, please continue this discussion on [EMAIL PROTECTED] I
don't venture onto the user list as often as perhaps I should ;-)

If you run lyx -dbg lyxserver you should get details of the conversation
between the two programs. But you appear to know that already.

I don't have LyX 1.2.3 installed here, but with LyX 1.3.2cvs (current stable
branch) this works for me (below). I suspect therefore that gbib is sending
a message that LyX 1.2.3 does not understand.

Hi Ben again.

I have just installed the Debian package gbib-0.1.1c-2 and all works
fine with lyx-1.3.2. I suspect, therefore, that the problem lies at
your end.

The location gbib expects to find the lyx pipes is hard-coded as

pipename = getenv(HOME);
pipename += /.lyxpipe;

You must set your LyX preferences accordingly (use EditPreferences,
InputPaths tab, LyXServer pipe /home/username/.lyxpipe) Don't miss
the dot at the start of .lyxpipe. Save the preferences, restart
LyX, start gbib and all should be fine.
